Ch. 7

After seeing Nick today, Ben and I are shaken up a bit. We texted our mom to tell her. It is safe to say that she is furious that he is back but also scared not only for her but also for our aunts and us too. She told us to be careful and not to go after Nick unless we know the spell to vanquish him and also that the ring will have no effect on us like it did on our mom and aunts. What happened was that our grandma, my mom’s mom made a deal with Nick in the past which involves giving up my mom’s and my aunt’s powers in exhange for their lives. Luckily our mom and aunts were able to go back in time to find the reason why the bond was made and find a way to interfere with it by making sure that the ring was unblessed. After that they went back to their time and vanquished Nicholas. Anyways we promise our mom that we won’t go after him unless we know it is safe. Both Ben and I go through our day like nothing happened. After attending classes and having lunch, which involves seeing Aaron, I definately feel better. Aaron always seems to have that effect on me.

“Hey,” Aaron says.

“Hi,” I say. “How are you?”

“Okay,” Aaron says. “Is something wrong?” He ask since I seemed to be a bit distracted. Both Aaron and I walked to our cars after class.

“I am okay?” I say. “It just that I sas Kevin bullying some freshmen.”

“You serious?” Aaron says.

“Yeah,” I say. “Why?”

“Because Kevin is part of the baseball team.” Aaron says. “He seemed like a great guy.”

“Well that great guy was bullying a freshmen. Luckily I was there to stop the bullying.” I say

“Well,” Aaron says. “As team captain I will have to tell coach about this.”

“Hey,” I say. “I just don’t want you to get invovled in anything nasty.”

“Hey,” Aaron says. “Look at me. I will be fine. Okay?”

“Okay.” I say. I walk to my car while Aaron to his motorcycle.

“I will call you when I get home,” Aaron says.

“Okay,” I say. We both started our engines and drove to our houses. I left because Ben had practice and was going to go out with his football teammates. As soon as I got home, I enter to see my mom is there.

“Hey,” I say. “How are you?”

“Okay,” my mom says. “Considering...”

“Yeah,” I say. “Did you tell dad?”

“No,” she says. “I want to handle this one with your aunts.”

“Mom,” I say. “You haven’t been hunting demons for a while.”

“I know,” She says. “But this one,I have to handle.”

“Look at me,” I say. “We will handle Nick becasue he doesn’t know us.”

“...Fine,” my mom says. “Just promise me that you will be careful.”

“I will,” I say.

“Where is Ben,” my mom asks.

“Football practice,” I say.

“Okay,” my mom says.

“I am going upstairs to start on homework,” I say.

“Okay,” my mom says. I got up to go upstairs to my room. The moment I closed the door, I phoned Ben.

“Hey,” Ben says when he answered the phone.

“Hey yourself,” I say. “Are you at practice or are you staking out Nick?”

“Ummm,” Ben says.

“Benji,” I reply.

“I’m sorry,” Ben reply. “I just have to.”

“Ben,” I say. “Are you freaking kidding me. Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?”

“I know,” Ben says. “Look you can come over here if you are worried for me.”

“No,” I say. “I want you home now. I know I sound like mom but I am seriosuly scared for your life.”

“Okay,” Ben says. “I will be home in ten.”

“Okay,” I say. I hung up the phone and hope that Ben is alright. I walk into my room and start on my homework. After then minutes, Ben enter my room out of breath.”

“You okay?” I ask turning to and see that he is alright if not a little sweaty.

“Yeah,” Ben says. “I just ran all the way home from school.”

“Seriously,” I asked.

“Yeah,” Ben says. “Look what I know what I did was a really dirt move.”

“You can say that,” I say. “You are so lucky that I covered for you and didn’t tell mom.”

“Yeah, I know,” Ben says.

“Tell me what?” my mom say coming out the bathroom.

“Nothing,” we say together a bit too fast.

“Huh,” my mom say. “Okay then. If you guys don’t tell me what is going on. That is fine but one of these days I will find out and you guys will rue the day. Rue I say!” She then turn and go downstairs, smiling to herself.

“Uhhh,” I say. “What just happened?”

“Mom knows,” Ben says.

“You think?” I sarcastically say. “We need to tell her.”

“No,” Ben says. “She will not find out.”

“Ben,” I start. “When did mom never find out about something?”

“Never,” Ben says. “She always find out one way or another. Great. I have to fess up now, eh?”

“Yup,” I say, pushing him out of my room and closing the door on him.

“Hey!” he yells and pounds on my door. “You are part of this as much as I am. If I’m going down, you are going down with me!”

“No I am not!!” I yell back. “I have no idea until you told me this afternoon!”

“Gah,” Ben yells, frustrated. “Fine. I will do the walk of shame. Downstairs to the kitchen. All. Alone.” he says dramatically. I chuckled because he’s seriously funny and knows what buttons to push.

“Fine,” I say, opening the door. “I will go with you.”

“Yay,” Ben says jumping up and down like a little kid.

“But first,” I say. “I have to call Aaron.”

“Really?” Ben ask. I just give him the look. “Fine.” he continues. I walk back into my room to call Aaron. He picks up after the second ring.

“Hey,” he says

“Hey,” I reply. “Just calling to let you know I got home safe.”

“Okay,” Aaron says. “Me too babe.”

“Yeah?” I ask.

“Yeah,” he says. “Anyways I can’t stop thinking about what we did over the weekend. I jerk off to that.”

“Oh really,” I ask. “I did too.”

“Hmmmm I really miss you.” he says.

“I really miss you too babe.” I say. “I got to go now. Ben is doing the walk of shame and I need to be there for him.”

“Okay,” Aaron laughs. “Hey, I was wondering if you are want to go to my sister’s birthday party which will be next week over the weekend?”

“Sure,” I say. “I would love to.”

“Cool,” Aaron says. “I love you .”

“I love you too.” I say. I hung up and open the door to see Ben was standing there looking kind of guilty.

“Hey,” I say.

“Hi,” He says kind of quickly.

“Did you hear all of that?” I ask

“No,” Ben says.

“Really?” I ask

“Fine,” Ben says. “I heard all of it. It’s so mushy and cute.”

“Shut up,” I say as I walk downstairs.

“Fine,” Ben says following me. Once we got there and enter the kitchen, we see that our mom was there, cooking.

“You go first,” whispers Ben.

“No you,” I whisper back.

“Fine,” whispers Ben.

“Hi mom,” Ben says.

“Hi,” my mom says skeptically.

“Well I want to tell you a funny story.” Ben says. “It’s hilarious.”

“Okay,” our mom says.

“Well, I went to practice thinking it was still on, but it was cancelled. So I left but then I see Nick was hovering around the school. Once he left I followed him.”  Ben say laughing.

“You think that is funny?” my mom starts. “YOU THINK THAT IS FUNNY?? WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING, BEN?!”

“Mom,” I say.

“Dont you start with me Bran,” My mom says. She continues with “WHY THE HELL DIDN’T YOU LISTEN TO ME? I TOLD YOU HOW DANGEROUS HE IS!!

“Mom,” Ben says. “I am sorry.”

“Oh you are sorry,” My mom says sarcatically. “YOU ARE SORRY??”

“Mom,” Ben says. “I know what I did was stupid and selfish. I thought I could handle it. Apparently I couldn’t.”

“Well,” my mom says calmy. “At least you are safe. Don’t ever scare me like that again. Okay?”

“Okay,” Ben says.

“Brennan and you know this because?”

“He called me,” I respond.

“Did you tell him to come straight home?”

“Yup,” I say.

“Good boy,” My mom says. “Look Ben. I know that I blew up at you and I am sorry. I am just scared because I know what Nick can do.”

“I know,” Ben says.

“Okay,” My mom says “What’s done is done. It is in the past. But please don’t tell your father.”

“Okay,” Ben and I say.

“Good,” mom says. “Go upstairs and wash up. Dinner will be ready in a few minutes.”

“Okay,” Ben and I both say. We both walk upstairs and head to our rooms. We stay there until we were called down for dinner. After eating dinner as a family. Ben and I got up and rinsed off all of the dishes and put them in the dishwasher and went upstairs. Before we went, we talk to our mom.

“Mom,” I say. “We will be upstairs to start on our research on Nick and how to vanquish him.”

“Okay,” my mom says. “Look under warlocks and you will see the “Nicholas must die spell.”

“Okay,” Ben says. We start to walk upstairs to the attic where we keep the Book of Shadows. There we see the spell that our mom told us about.

“There it is,” Ben says pointing out the spell

“Yeah I say. “It’s Lavender, Mimosa, Holy Thesel. Clean this evil from our midst. Scatter its cells throughout time. Let this Nick no more exist.”

“Wow,” Ben says “Catchy.”

“Yup,” I reply. “Let’s just hope that spell still works.”

“Yeah,” Ben says. “I agree.”

“Well,” I say. “I am tired so I will be heading to my room to brush my teeth and hit the sack. I suggest you do the same too.”

“Yeah,” Ben says. “I will after I finish some homework.”

“Ditto,” I say. “Hey, we will look for Nick tomorrow.”

“Okay,” Ben says. We both walk to our respective rooms, got ready for bed, did some homework and got some shut eye because we will definitely need it because the hunt for Nicholas is on.
