The memory of lashing out at Rayne in his apartment, which resulted in him ramming into the kitchen counter haunted me. I vowed I would never be that man again; one that would resort to alcohol and violence to solve his problems. And now that I had known that Rayne still had feelings for me... well it made my goal very evident.

I was going to win him back.

Stopping by a florist to pick up a bouquet of roses, I drove to his parents home and confidently walked up the driveway. I knocked on the door to the house that I knew the ins and outs of like the back of my hand, but hadn't seen in what felt like forever.

Rayne's father Blaine answered the door and almost jumped off his feet; he was that surprised to see me.

"Hey Brendan," he said, his eyes darting between me and the roses I had in my arm.

"Hello Mr. Marshall. I was just wondering if Rayne was here?"

Before Blaine could even respond, I saw Jesse appear on the staircase in front of me; he glanced at me and shook his head. Blaine took that as his cue to make himself scarce while Jesse approached me, his arms crossed against his chest.

"This isn't a good move, Brendan," he said firmly.

"Look, I know I fucked up, Jesse; I fucked up big time. But I love Rayne more than you could possibly know. I made a promise to him every night when we were together that as long as that moon was still shining," I pointed up to the half moon beaming down on us, "that I would love him.  And as you can clearly see, that means I still do."

"You didn't just fuck up though, Brendan; you fucked Rayne up. It took him almost six months to recover after you came to us and destroyed his life, let alone left that bruising across his back. If I was half the man I am, I would punch you in the face for leaving my little brother like that, but I won't. Instead, I'm going to ask you like the gentleman that I am to leave him alone."

I winced at the thought of there being evidence of physical harm on Rayne's flawless body. But that was the old Brendan. The new Brendan would never do that.

"I can't do that," I replied.

"Brendan."

The voice of angels rung from behind Jesse, I leaned my head over to see Rayne glide across the floor, appearing behind Jesse. He placed his hand on Jesse's shoulder, and without a word, Jesse relented and disappeared back up the staircase.

"For you," I said, handing the bouquet of roses to Rayne.

Rayne took them with a half-smile on his face, and he leaned down to sniff the flowers.

"Thank you," he mumbled. "But I'm with Theo now."

I felt a stabbing pain in my stomach hearing that again, but I ignored it and chose to fight through it.

"I'm going to ask you again, Rayne, and I want you to be honest with me: does he make you happy?"

Rayne quickly placed the roses down on a nearby table and pushed me out of the doorway, shutting the wooden door behind him with a thud.

"I already told you what you wanted to hear, Brendan. Yes, I'm still in love with you. Admitting that was hard enough."

"But does he make you happy, Rayne?" I repeated myself.

Rayne let out a long sigh, and his eyes brows furrowed in thought, his cute little dimple caving in. I wanted to reach out and stroke it like I had often done many times before.

"Yes," he said after a brief silence.

"Okay," I said, shoving my hands in my pockets. "But does he make you as happy as I do?"

Rayne let out another sigh of frustration and rolled his eyes; he twirled on his toes and made a dash for the empty field that sat adjacent to his family home. I followed him and reached forward to grab his hand, but he quickly yanked it away from my grasp.

"Don't do that!" he shouted.

"Answer my question, Rayne. Does he make you as happy as I do?"

Rayne stopped in the field, and turned to look up at me, his eyes pleading with me to stop this conversation.

"Brendan, that's not fair. You're my first love, and nothing will ever compare to that; but I had to pick up the pieces that you had shattered everywhere, and I had to move on. And I think you need to as well."

I could hear in Rayne's voice that he was trying to convince himself that what he was saying was true, but the glimmer in his eye betrayed him; he was putting up those walls I've battled against many times before, and I'm sure I will battle many times more.

"You don't believe that," I said with a smirk. "You look me in the eye and repeat that again, knowing 100% within yourself that what you are saying is true."

Rayne glanced up at me, his eyes sparkling underneath the moonlight, and he bit his lip. He looked away, and I knew I was right.

"I will do everything within my power for the rest of our lives to make up the hurt I've caused you, Rayne, and how much I love you. If you want me to shout it out at the top of my lungs right now for everyone to hear, Rayne, then I will; hell, if you want me to run across the country to show you how sorry I am and how much I love you, then I'll see you back at Perth because I will do it. Whatever it takes, Rayne."

Rayne's eyes began to well up, and I reached forward and cupped his head gently in both of my hands.

"You are my world, Rayne, and I have my entire world in my hands right now."

Rayne looked up at me, blinking silently. I brushed away his tears with my thumbs and brought my forehead against his.

"Say you love me," I whispered.

Rayne pressed his lips together, and I yearned out to caress them with mine.

"Say it," I repeated.

"I love you Brendan Thatcher," he said. "I love you more than I can handle."

"Let me make you happy," I whispered, my lips only a very short distance away from his.

Rayne nodded his head, and with that invitation, I dipped my head and closed the distance, pressing my lips against his as the moon smiled down at us. I held him in my arms, my lips never leaving his, as we embraced each other after spending almost a lifetime apart.

I scooped Rayne up into my arms, his legs locking around my waist as our lips moved effortlessly around each other's.

"I want to make you happy," I whispered, looking up into his eyes.

Rayne nodded his head, and I gently laid him down on the grass underneath me. I pressed my lips against his once again, his hands dipping underneath the fabric of my shirt and running up my bare back.

"Please," he begged.

Without a word, I had pulled my shirt off in one quick movement as Rayne quickly wriggled out of his pants underneath me. He reached the top of my jeans and deftly unbuttoned them, pulling them down so they were around my knees, my hard cock immediately springing to life.

His hips rocked up to meet mine as our bodies melted into each other. Rayne let out a euphoric moan as I thrusted completely inside of him

"I love you Rayne," I whispered.
