Che’s Story
Man, I gotta tell ya’, it was kinda surreal standin’ up there with all these people watchin’ me in my police uniform shakin’ hands wid’ the mayor n’ the chief a’ police n’ all them. They all congratulated me and said “welcome to the Wilmington PD, Che.” They all knew my damn name! Back home in Iowa the police and The Mayor n’ all them knew my name; they called me a buncha’ other shit too. I grew up bein’ afraid of cops and authority in general, then when I met River, they started harrasin’ me, thanks to his dad (mutha’ fuckin’ Shadow Wolf). He owned all dem crooked people and used ‘em against me every chance he got… he did not want me near River… hell, he’d rather see me dead than with River. But when I moved here to Wilmington, it was way different. Me n’ River made contact with the cops a coupla’ times at first, but it was like the cops were on our side. They actually gave a shit about us two homeless fags and helped us do better. They were like… like decent people, there to help us. I wanted to be like that. This one cop, Officer Andy, let me ride with him one night to see what his job was really like… that night changed everything for me. Everything! He helped a buncha’ people that night. Oh, and dat’s the night I meant Sams’ (AKA Frankie); when I met him somethin’ inside me kicked in; I just wanted to help him (so, I did). Officer Andy showed me a good cop. A cop that helped people, and treated ‘em with respect, not harassed them. A cop that really gave a shit. I wanted to be that cop. Now, there I was standin’ in front of the chief of police and everybody, Officer Andy, River, and all the guys from The Village, pledgin’ to uphold the constitution of the state of North Carolina. Hell, even Seth and Zach’s kids were there, all dressed up and cheering for me. Nobody ever cheered for me before; I had a family now.
The ceremony was nice, nothing fancy, but it was a big deal to me. There were guys graduating from the Academy who were goin’ to work for other police agencies, so we each walked up, said our name and the department we were gonna work for, then shook hands with our chief, the mayor and some other “dignitaries” (whateva’ the F that meant). I had the biggest cheerin’ section in the whole damn place… I admit, I liked it. Daaaaaaamn, nobody ever cheered me on for nothin’ before, but there were the people who were my family now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was choked up inside, but Izzy broke the mood when she yelled out, “Yay, Cheese!!! You a pleeceman now” and kept me from cryin’ like a little bitch. Her n’ her two brothers were like my own little brothers and sister.
After the ceremony, we all went out to dinner to celebrate at… um, well… Jungle Rapids, and yeah, I picked da’ place. Yup, I went to an arcade in my police uniform, ate pizza, ate cake, and played video games with the kids. Because that’s how I wanted to celebrate, havin’ fun with the people I loved. They made a big deal of my graduation and I aint got the words to tell you how much it meant to me. After we ate and played, the adults all patted me on the back, the kids all hugged me, and Izzy told me to go get bad guys. God, I love dem kids.
That night we went back to our apartment at Harrington House, sat on the couch, and looked at houses on Zillow. Yeah, dat’s what I said, man… we looked at houses on Zillow to buy. River had money comin’ in from the land he inherited (a lot of money), and I was officially startin’ my job as a police officer in a few days so I’d have a decent paycheck comin’ in too (wow, man. Me a police officer. Damn). We’d have to save for a few months for the down payment, but we figured by Spring we’d be ready to make an offer on somethin’. Seth was helpin’ us with the math. We decided we wanted to live out in the country, closer to BroMax Farm and all the guys, or at least in a smaller town out that way… we found one we really liked and were lookin’ around that area. We were sittin’ on the couch scrollin’ through Zillow just dreamin’ ‘bout our future (okay, I gotta tell you how good it felt to have dreams. For a while we were just survivin’ now, we were plannin’ our future together). I was so into it that I didn’t even notice that River had disappeared into the bathroom. I prolly spent another twenty minutes lookin’ at houses and dreamin’ before I went lookin’ for him. Our apartment was nice, but kinda’ tiny so he wouldn’t be hard to find.
The bedroom door was shut, but I could hear music n’ smell eucalyptus/spearmint (River’s favorite BroMax candle scent). When I opened the door, the room was lit by candles, there was a big sign over the bed that said “Congratulations officer Cheese. I’m proud of you,” and the best part… a naked River on the bed with a boner to end all boners, and the goofball tied a ribbon on it. Riv was skinny with a long, skinny cock that matched his lean body. He was layin’ there, the candle flickered off his reddish-brown skin, and his cock looked so damn long, the head was restin’ on his abs above his belly button (he’s got an inny).
“Unwrap your graduation present, officer” he said with a grin.
I grinned back as I crawled onto the bed and asked “dats all I get? I worked really hard at the academy, whaddabout dis?” Then I bit his nipple. “Or dis?” Then I bit his other nipple. “Or dese?” Then I kissed his soft fucking lips. DAMN!
“I’m so damn proud of you. You can have it all” he said in this sultry voice… he just knew how to push all my damn buttons.
“Even dis?” I asked as I tapped his hole with my finger.
“Especially that.”
I was hard as a rock, but at the same time I was like mush inside because he said he was prouda’ me. Well, I had two choices, I coulda’ broke down n’ cried, or I coulda’ fucked River’s hot ass… Guess which one I picked. Yeah, dat right. I fucked him. First, I licked every incha’ him, givin’ him little bites along the way, I knew what he liked. His moans and groans proved I was doin’ good. I moved from his lips, to his ears and shoved my tongue in each one. He wiggled and pushed his hips up, groanin’ away. Then I went to his neck and licked every inch still drivin’ him crazy. I moved slow and sexy-like savorin’ his body. I got down to his cockhead and kissed it, then I pulled on the ribbon and opened my gift, “I wonder what the hell dis could be?” I asked in fake surprise.
River growled, “Oh my god just freakin’ open it already!”
I chuckled and pulled the ribbon, then fake surprise again, “It’s just what I always wanted!” That part wasn’t fake, River and the life we were buildin’ together was everythin’ I always wanted and so much fuckin’ more. When The ribbon was gone, I took him in my mouth and down my throat until I choked on him.
“Oh fuck, yeah” River grunted as he pushed my head down hard. Damn, I swear that boy was tryin’ to see if he could make his cock come out the backa’ my head. Shit, I worked that red rocket for all it was worth. I had Riv on the edge a buncha’ times before I moved down to his low hangin’ balls and slobbered all over ’em. Gotdamn, his balls felt so meaty and filled my mouth. The texture, the heft, all of it was awesome. I didn’t want to stop suckin’ on ‘em, but I had an asshole to lube up. I pushed Riv’s legs to his skinny chest and his tight, little starfish winked at me. I gave it a lap with my tongue and listened for Riv to moan a response… he did more than moan. He pushed my face into his crack and basically forced me to tongue fuck him… so I did. I did it for a long while, but then I was ready for some real fuckin’.
“Get on all fours” I whispered. Damn, that boy moved fast! He rolled over, put his face in the pillow and his skinny little ass in the air. I pulled his ass cheeks apart and did some more tongue fuckin’ and rimmin’ until my boy was ready. “You ready to get fucked?”
“Fuck the shit outta me officer, Cheese!” He said with a lustful chuckle. River went through all this trouble to give me a graduation present, the least I could do was give him the fuckin’ of his young life. Right?
I got behind him, took another look at that fine ass, then smacked it, spit on my dick, and pushed it in. “Oof” River grunted, then he sighed, “ohhhhhh fuck yeah.” He was gone. Like in another world as he begged for me to fuck him, and fuck him hard. He pushed back against me as I fucked in and out, he even grabbed my ass tryin’ to pull me deeper. Day-um, the boy was on fire! I may had been a policeman, but I wasn’t afraid to put my firehose to good use. I looked down, shit… I wish you coulda’ seen what I did. His reddish-brown ass in the air, his face buried in the pillow, his left hand pullin’ my ass into his, and his right hand working his long skinny cock. “Fuck me faster, I’m cummin’” he yelled. Shit, I was right there too… so I went for it. I fucked him hard and fast until I shot my load up his ass and he spilled his on the sheets. My sweaty, black body collapsed on top of him, and we both laid there pantin’ like damn dogs.
When I finally pulled out and rolled off him, we were side by side with Riv bitchin’ about layin’ in the wet spot. “That’s was the best graduation present ever” I said as I looked up at the ceiling.
“I really am freaking proud of you” River said before he kissed me goodnight. I slept like a damn baby with his head on my sweaty chest.
The next morning Riv got up and went to work at the candle factory, and I slept in. It was Friday morning and I didn’t start with the police department until Monday morning, so I had a couple days to myself. I didn’t tell River, but I made a big decision, well, to me it was a big decision. I had worked hard to make changes in order to be a respectable cop, the biggest and hardest change was the way I talked… I mean spoke. I still had a long way to go, but River was helpin’ me annunciate and to ‘not sound like a freaking thug’ as he put it. I was about to make another big change. I had dreads, well, more like the start of dreads. The police department required that we keep hair short enough that it didn’t interfere with our “equipment.” Technically, my hair passed but I decided to do better. I woke up, went over to Merilee’s to get a cup of coffee, then I walked to the barbershop a few storefronts down. I’d been there a couple of times just to get things cleaned up a little… it was a mostly black barber shop and the guys were all really friendly. I felt comfortable there. When I got there, they had an open chair so I jumped in.
“What we looking to do today just clean and shape it up again?” The barber asked.
“Nope. I’m ready to buzz it off and go with a skin fade.”
The barber looked me over, “that’s a lot of years you got on that head. You sure you ready to say goodbye.”
I took a deep breath, “I graduated from the police academy yesterday, n’ start with the WPD on Monday. I need to look the part. I’m ready.”
One of the other barbers yelled from his chair, “congratulations, broth’. We need more black cops around here.” Then the guys all started talking about the difference between the white cops and the black cops… I got to hear good and bad about both. Well, with all the talkin’ goin’ on I didn’t even realize he cut my dreads off until I felt the steel of the clippers on the back of my head. The barber pushed my head forwards n’ I saw my dreads layin’ on the cement floor. Holy shit! I really did it! I cut off the dreads! They had been part of who I was for a while… there was no turnin’ back.
“Oh shit” I mumbled.
The barber chuckled, “Looking at your dreads on the floor?” He asked knowingly. “It happens” he said as he finished up my hair while I looked at the wall. Then he said, “but look how damn good you look” n’ spun the chair around so I could check myself in the mirror.
I breathed out a “Day-um” and all the guys in the shop laughed. I was in shock, was that really me in that mirror with that fresh fade and no dreads? I didn’t recognize myself.
“So, whatcha’ think? The barber asked. I couldn’t answer right away, I was still taking it all in.
“You look like a police officer” one of the other barbers shouted. He was right. I did. I looked… well… respectable.
“I like it” I said, then added, “I think.” The other guys laughed again. I paid the barber (Who gave me a first responder discount), tipped him, said goodbye to all the guys at the shop and went home. I had a coupla’ more errands to run.
I took my uniform to RayRay at the dry cleaners and picked up the other ones I dropped off a few days before. I put my uniform on the counter, Karen (that’s Izzy and Freddy’s biological mom, she worked there too) asked me my name. I just looked at her, she knew me. “Karen, it’s me, Che.”
She looked up, did a double “Oh my god! She squealed. “Wow. Oh my god, you look so different.”
RayRay came out from the back when he heard her shout, “Holy shit, Che. Y’all. You look good! What does River think?”
River. Shit. I forgot he aint seen me yet. “Y’all are the first to see it. I just left the barbershop.” Suddenly I got a little nervous about it, I didn’t say nothin’ to River about doin’ this. He was gonna be shocked. I smiled a little to myself thinkin’ about surprising him. Anyway, I talked to RayRay and Karen for a little while, grabbed my other uniforms, then went back to my car. Oh yeah, they gave me a first responder discount too. I was likin’ this bein’ a cop shit. I got in my Camry and drove back home, I put India Arie on the radio… yeah, I know that don’t sound like me, but there’s this one song with Akon; ‘I Am Not My Hair’. It’s all about discoverin’ who you are, and not lettin’ your looks or what other people think dictate the person you are.
“I am not my hair, I am not this skin
I am not your expectations, no,
I am not my hair, I am not this skin
I am the soul that lives within”
That song spoke to me, and I needed to hear it right then, man. I had been doubtin’ myself about all the changes… being a cop, settlin’ down in a southern town with River… all dat. But my head was clear now. I acted like a little thug bitch because people treated me like one, but that wasn’t who I was, and it sure as fuck wasn’t who I wanted to be. I was Officer Che, and damn proud of it. By the time I got home, I felt fuckin’ great about my new look and the man I was becoming. I took my uniforms up to our apartment and decided to have a little fun. I dressed up in my navy-blue uniform, hat, aviator glasses, and all. I didn’t get my gun and badge yet, but I put on everything I had, and I decided to go over to BroMax Candle Co. and surprise River with my new look.
I ran into Seth on the way out. He stared at me in disbelief, “Looking good, Officer Cheese” he said with a whistle. Then I took the hat off so he could see the new do, “Wow!” He was really blown away, then he asked the same question, “What did River say about your hair?”
“I dunno yet, I’m on my way over to show him now” I said.
“Hail, I’m not missing this” Seth said, then he walked with me across the street and up the steps of the old church that housed BroMax Candle, Co.
I put on my hat, n’ Seth straightened my tie for me before opening the big door. River was working in the gift shop and was the first to see us. He said hi to Seth, then he saw me. “Damn, you look good in uniform, baby” he said with that infectious smile of his… I tried to keep a serious face as I took my hat off, but his smile made me smile. When the hat came off Riv ‘s eyes went wide, “Ho-lee-fuck, your dreads are gone!!!” he yelled, and it echoed thought the old church. “Gotdammit you look hot as hail!”
Mason was standin’ next to him and said, “I’ve been bad Officer, you better cuff me.” The other guys laughed. The guys in the factory heard us and came into the gift shop to see what was up.
“Damn you look amazing” Max said as the other guys all made a big deal of my uniform and even more so my hair. I was a little embarrassed, but mostly proud. The guys were gettin’ ready to break for lunch, we all went over to this little diner and ate lunch together. I’d worked at the candle factory for a while, and even though I left for the academy a few months back, I still felt like part of it, and that lunch felt like a going away party.
After lunch I went home and changed outta my uniform. The rest of the weekend was pretty tame, and my excitement and nerves were bubblin’ up, I was anxious to start my new job. Monday morning finally came! I got dressed, had breakfast with Riv, then drove to the police station to report for duty. Um, okay this is kinda embarrassing, but I got the more than an hour early and just sat in my car drinkin’ coffee… like a cop.
My first coupla’ days were all orientation stuff, on day three they had me ridin’ along with my new partner. I liked him. To be fair, I don’t think he was thrilled to be stuck with the gay black guy at first. But that just made me more determined to prove myself. I worked my ass off to learn. I asked questions when I had questions. I spoke clearly. I was respectful, but I was not afraid to assert myself. After about a week, my partner, Gates and me started to click… we even started to like each other. By the time I was on the force for a coupla’ weeks I felt like a real cop… hell I was a real cop. I was surprise how quickly I started to fit in, and I fuckin’ loved bein’ a cop.
I continued to work on annunciating clearly (like saying my “g’s”) and keeping calm, it wasn’t always easy but I was doing it; I was becoming the man I wanted to be. I mean yeah, I fell back into my thug ways once in a while, but for the most part I was doing good, I was proud of myself. Even more importantly, River was proud of me.
I was out on patrol with Gates in the middle of the day when dispatch came over the radio, “We got a call from a business downtown reporting a suspicious vehicle, are there any cars in the area?”
“Car 67 responding” Gates said.
The dispatcher responded, “See Marilee at Marilee’s Café” then gave the address.
“That place is by my apartment, I know Marilee” I told Gates.
“Well let’s roll.”
When we got there Marilee had locked the door and was waiting for us. She said there was a guy menacing in the earlier, and did her best to describe him. She told us he came in earlier and ordered, “he was a big guy and kept staring at me, it was really uncomfortable and I was here alone. His red pickup was parked in front of the café, he got in and drove around the block a bunch of times” she explained. “Then he disappeared and I thought he was done, but he keeps showing up like every fifteen minutes or so and does a few laps around the block. He made me so nervous that I locked the door and called you.” She hadn’t seen the truck in about twenty minutes or so, but it was clear that the guy was spooking her. After we talked to her, I went over to The Village to talk to BA. If the guy was circling the block, there was a good chance she saw him.
After giving me shit about being in uniform, I introduced her to Gates then asked her about the truck. “Hail, Darlin’ I been busier than a one-armed paperhanger this mornin’ I and been payin’ attention” she said shaking her head. As we were talking, the truck slowly drove by and Gates and I headed out to the street. By the time we got out there the truck had turned the corner, so we headed back to Marilee’s. She was standing out front.
“Did you see it?” She asked trying not to panic.
“Yeah, we saw it” Gates said. Just about then it came back around, still cruising slowly. Gates stepped in front of the vehicle and put his hand out to stop it, then we both walked up to the drivers-side window. The tint was dark (legally too dark) and we couldn’t see inside.
The window rolled down, and a deep voice asked, “Is there a problem officer?” Ho-Lee-Fuck! It was Shadow Wolf, River’s father. He looked me up and down and laughed, “Halloween aint for a coupla’ weeks, boy. Why you all dressed up?” Lemme guess, you’re stripping now? No, no, that can’t be it, nobody would pay to see your skinny ass naked. Oh, no wait is it Village People night at the queer bar?”
His steel eyes and condescending smirk tried to burn through me. But this was the moment I’d been waiting for.
To be continued…
