After your reunion, you have started to realize that you have had a big impact on a lot of people’s lives. Mitch even noticed that that impact is always positive. As your kids start school over the next couple of years, you and Mitch are going to influence even more people and make more friends.
Of course, you are going to have the biggest impact on Josh and Alex. They are watching you and Mitch and there is an old saying that may sum it up best. “The apple does not fall far from the tree”. You will understand that as the years go by…
***
After my reunion, we were soon into the life of grade school parents. We were dropping Josh off on his first day of kindergarten and Alex at preschool. I couldn’t believe how fast they were growing up turning into independent little people. I was starting to see Josh develop some of Mitch’s mannerisms and Alex was doing the same with mine. I would always smile whenever she wrinkled her little nose, it reminded me so much of Alex and Beth.
Mitch and I never thought of Josh as being his son and Alex as being my daughter, we always knew they were our kids. The rest of our family felt the same way. Although Beth did like to spend a little extra time with Alex, but that was just because her Conner and Cole didn’t like to do ‘girl’ things with their mom. She never once brought up the fact that she actually gave birth to her, she always let us be the parents and she was just the fun aunt.
Over the next few years, Josh and Alex only grew closer. Not only were they siblings, but there were truly best friends. Of course, they squabbled over toys but were always looking out for each other. Josh was certainly the big brother that fiercely watched over his little sister.
Nowhere was that more evident than on Alex’s first day of kindergarten. Mitch was out of town for work, so I dropped them off at school. I got out of the car to walk her to her classroom; she was a little scared. Just as I was about to take her hand, Josh grabbed her hand and said, “I got this, dad.”
He turned to Alex and said, “Come on, I know the way. I’ll show you where to go. Don’t worry, Mrs. Hayes was my teacher and she’s cool. I’ll be two doors down the hall, if you need me, come get me.”
I quickly brushed a tear away as I watched them walk away hand in hand. I was so glad that Mitch and I had just gotten new cell phones with cameras. I pulled mine out and took a short video and sent it to him. He sent a text back, “I guess we are doing something right.”
Even though they had obviously learned their compassion from Mitch and Adam, they also picked up their love of teasing each other from me and my brother. Around the time Josh was 8 and Alex was 6, she spent the day with Beth doing some of those ‘girl’ things.
When she got home she ran to Josh and gave him a hug. He turned the hug into a headlock and said, “It’s about time you’re home, ya little twerp.”
She pulled away and said, “I missed you too, ya big butthead.”
Mitch and I chuckled. I shrugged, “I guess mom was right, they are watching us.”
I was just glad that the little terms of endearment that they chose weren’t terrible. We did tell them that it was fine to call each other that at home, but they shouldn’t do it at school. Once we finally got them to understand why, they promised to be careful. Mitch and I sighed and hoped for the best.
A few weeks later, Mitch picked the kids up from school, I just got home and was starting to get dinner ready as Josh came running into the house all excited.
He ran up to me, “Pop said it was okay, but I had to ask you. Dad, can I please?”
I chuckled, “Slow down, pal. Can you what?”
Alex and Mitch walked in; Mitch had a grin on his face as he gave me a kiss.
Josh said, “Can Eli sleep over? Please can he?”
Josh and Eli had been friends since Eli’s family moved to the area a year ago. We had never formally met his parents, but I had seen his mom when I picked the kids up. Evidently, Eli and Josh decided they wanted to have a sleep over. I thought it might be a good time to meet some his classmate’s parents.
Mitch said, “I told him I was good with it, but he had to ask you too.”
I rolled my eyes, “Oh, make me the bad guy if I say no.”
He grinned, “How can you say no? Just look at that sweet little face.”
I chuckled, “You jerk.” I turned to Josh, “Yes, Eli can stay, but you have to tell him to have his mom or dad call us, so we know it’s alright with them.”
He wrapped me in a hug and said, “Thanks dad. I’ll tell Eli tomorrow. Can he stay Friday, and will you make spaghetti for dinner?"
I chuckled, “Sure, that will be fine.”
On Thursday, I picked the kids up and Josh climbed into the car, clearly upset.
I asked, “What’s the matter, buddy?”
He said, “Eli’s mom said he couldn’t come to our house.”
“Why not?”
He wouldn’t look at me, he mumbled, “Because I have two dads.”
I quickly looked around the parking lot; I wanted to talk to Eli’s mom. I saw her car driving away. I told Josh I would call her as soon as we got home. We walked into the house as Mitch was getting ready to start dinner.
He saw the expression on Josh’s and my face and asked, “What’s wrong?”
I said, “Josh, you and Alex take your bookbags to your rooms and hang up your coats.” As soon as they left the room, I told him what had happened. He was instantly pissed; I guess I was too.
He asked, “What are we going to do?”
I said, “I’m going to call her, so she has to tell me herself why Eli can’t spend the night.”
Mitch sighed, “I’ll go have a talk with Josh.”
I pulled out the phonebook and found her number. I took a deep breath and dialed the number.
She answered, I said, “This is Jack, Josh’s dad. He is very disappointed that Eli can’t sleep over. Can I ask why you said no?”
She paused for a moment and said, “I’m sure Josh is a good kid, but I am just not comfortable with Eli spending the night.”
I felt my blood pressure rise, “And would the fact that his dads are gay have anything to do with you being uncomfortable?”
Again, there was silence for a bit, “Well, I have to do what is best for my child, and I just don’t want him exposed to…”
I asked, “Exposed to what? What do you think goes on in our house?”
She stammered, “Well… I don’t know, but I just don’t want Eli to see anything that he shouldn’t.”
I snorted, “Don’t worry, we have already called off the weekly orgy, I promise he won’t see anything that he won’t see in your house.”
She said, “I don’t think you have orgies, I would just prefer that Eli only see… normal families. Josh is welcome to come stay here if he wants to.”
I laughed, “No thank you, I am not comfortable with that. I don’t want Josh exposed to such a narrow-minded set of ideas. We have a normal family, and we are teaching our kids that not all families look the same. I really feel sorry for Eli, he may lose a good friend because you are so homophobic. Good night.”
I hung up the phone and tried to get my heart rate back to normal. Mitch and Alex came back into the kitchen; she sat at the table with her coloring book and began to get her crayons out.
Mitch asked, “What did she say?”
I sighed, “She said she wasn’t comfortable with her son spending time with a boy that has two dads. She also said that Josh was welcome to stay at their house, I said I wasn’t comfortable with that.”
Mitch shook his head, “That bitch.”
We had both forgot that Alex was in the room, she said, “Yeah, that bitch.”
Mitch hung his head and we had a little talk with Alex; we really do need to be careful what we say around her and Josh. They really do listen. We then went to have an unpleasant talk with Josh.
I said, “We can still have spaghetti tomorrow night, and you can have another friend over another time.”
He still wasn’t happy, but we reassured him it wasn’t his fault.
When I picked the kids up after school the next day, Josh was in a slightly better mood. He still was upset as he watched Eli get in the car with his mom and drive away. She wouldn’t even look in my direction.
Josh went to his room as soon as we got home. I started to get all the ingredients out to start making dinner as Mitch came home. He went in to have another talk with Josh and at least got him to smile a little bit. As Mitch came back into the kitchen, we heard the doorbell ring.
Mitch asked, “Were you expecting visitors?”
I shook my head, “No.”
He went to answer the door as I washed my hands to go see who was here. I heard Mitch talking to another man as I walked to the front door.
The man said, “Sorry to just drop by without calling. I’m Andy, Eli’s dad, if the invitation is still good, Eli would love to spend the night with Josh.”
Mitch looked at me and I said, “Yes, he is welcome, but I thought your wife said…”
Andy sighed and turned back to the sidewalk, his wife was standing there with Eli by her side, Eli was holding a backpack. He said, “When I got home from work today, Eli told me why he was so upset. After a long talk, I think Claire has something to say to you.”
Claire stepped to the door, “I’m sorry, I overreacted and I should have never said what I said to you.”
Andy said, “I had to remind Claire about my cousin Todd and his partner Mike. Eli has been around them many times and it’s always been fine.”
Mitch put his arm around me and said, “Eli can come to our house anytime he wants. Thank you.”
Josh came out of his room and saw Eli standing there with his bag, he yelled, “Eli!”
Eli ran in the door and gave Josh a hug, “My dad says I can stay.”
Josh grinned, “Come on, let’s go to my room.” He turned to Alex, “And you leave us alone ya little twerp.”
Alex rolled her eyes, “You leave me alone too, ya big butthead.”
I sighed, “Sorry, it’s just a little sibling thing they do.”
Andy laughed, “Eli and his big brother do the same thing. It’s fine.”
Mitch said, “I’m sorry, we don’t mean to leave you standing on the front step, please come in.”
Andy said, “Thanks, just for a minute.”
They came in and we talked for a few minutes, I think Claire relaxed a bit as she saw we had a normal house and they weren’t any ‘gay’ things laying around the room. She apologized again.
I said, “Josh requested spaghetti for dinner, I was just about ready to start the pasta, you are more than welcome to join us.”
Half an hour later we were all sitting down to eat, Andy was a nice guy, and I think that Claire was starting to realize that we were normal parents that only wanted what was best for our kids. She also wanted what was best for Eli, so we gave her a little grace. By the time we were finished eating, she had warmed up to us, and I wasn’t thinking she was a bitch anymore. Josh and Eli had a blast, and we had Eli home by 5 the next day as Andy told us they had family plans at 6.
We didn’t have any further incidents, and both Josh and Alex had many friends at our house throughout the rest of their school years.
Our kids weren’t the only ones growing up. Before we knew it, Conner was preparing to graduate from high school and head off to college. We, of course, were going to the ceremony and Beth was having all of us back to her house afterward for a little celebration. She invited mom and dad, Adam and Molly and my brother and sister and their families too. She also had Kyle’s family and a few other friends.
Mitch and I had talked to Beth and told her that we wanted to get Conner a laptop as a gift. She told us that he had been saving his money to buy one, so he would appreciate it. As most of the other guest were starting to leave, I went out the car to get the laptop.
Conner’s eyes went wide when Mitch and I handed it to him. He wrapped us both in a hug, “Thank you so much Uncle Jack and Uncle Mitch, this is awesome.”
I felt a tear start to form in my eye, I said, “I also have a gift from your Uncle Alex.” I handed him an envelope.
He and Beth gave me a concerned look as he opened the envelope.
Conner asked, “What does this mean?”
Beth wiped a tear away, “Is that what I think it is?”
My tears were flowing freely now, I turned to Conner, “When your Uncle Alex died, he had a $50,000 life insurance policy, he left the money to me. I put that money into a college fund for you and Cole. You each have $25,000 plus a little interest to use for your education or if that is already covered you can use it for a car or down payment on a house after college.”
Beth said, “But we told you to use that money for whatever you wanted.”
I smiled, “I did.”
Kyle had joined us to see what was going on, he asked, “What about Josh and Alex, you should use that money for their college.”
Mitch said, “We have a college fund for them, they are taken care of. Jack really wanted to do this.”
Conner gave me a big bear hug; the kid was bigger than I was now. He said, “Thank you so much.”
Beth, Kyle and Cole joined in and I was nearly smothered, but I loved every minute of it. Cole was not going to be surprised like Conner, but he was just as grateful. I could feel Alex looking down on us. He would be so proud of his nephews and be so happy that he was able to help them have a better start to their adult lives than he did.
As I turned the calendar to 2015, I realized that I had been out of high school for 30 years. Man, where did the time go? Josh was 14 and Alex was 12. They were growing up so fast, and Mitch and I were so proud of the young people they were becoming. I guess all parents feel that way about their kids, but ours are the best. Okay, that’s just my opinion, but it’s true. Fine, I’ll quit bragging now.
As summer approached, I got the invitation to another reunion. Mitch and I would be going, it was a good excuse to go see mom and dad. They were both fully retired now and although they were starting to slow down, they still like to travel. They would also come to see Josh and Alex at all their games and concerts and all the other things they were involved in.
On June 26, Mitch and I got home from work and we were making dinner. Josh and Alex came into the kitchen to help set table.
Josh asked, “Are you guys married?”
Mitch chuckled, “Well, not officially, but we have been together for over 17 years.”
I asked, “What made you asked that?”
Alex said, “We saw it on the news today, men can marry men and women can marry women.”
Mitch asked, “What are talking about?” Neither I nor Mitch had turned on the TV all day and hadn’t seen the news.
Josh said, “They kept interrupting TV shows all day, the Supreme Court made a ruling or something. I thought you guys were already married.”
We quickly turned on the news and sure enough, same sex marriage was now legal in the United States. As we ate dinner, we explained to Josh and Alex that not all states recognized the right of gay couples to marry. Now it was going to be legal in all states.
Alex asked, “So are you going to get married?”
I smiled as I looked at Mitch, “I don’t know, we haven’t talked about…”
Mitch interrupted me, “Hell yes we are.”
I chuckled, “Was that a marriage proposal?”
He shrugged, “I guess, you wanna get hitched?”
I laughed, “Well, I don’t know, it’s a lot to think about. We really haven’t gotten to know each other too well.”
Josh rolled his eyes, “You’ve been acting like you’re married forever, just get it over with.”
Alex chimed in, “If you have a wedding, can I get a new dress?”
Mitch smiled, “Yes, you can have a new dress.”
A couple of weeks later, Mitch, Josh and I were getting new suits while Beth and Alex were picking out a dress… and shoes… and everything else a stylish little girl needs for a wedding. Beth is so great, helping a couple of clueless dads with all the things that come up for a girl. The first training bra, and sigh, the first time it is ‘that time of the month’ I’m not sure what we would have done without her.
A couple of months later, we were all gathered in the park that was near our house. They had a nice gazebo that they rented out for weddings and parties. We were fortunate that our state wasn’t one that was blocking issuing wedding licenses to same sex couples. Even though marriage was legalized in the entire country, some states were still fighting it.
We got to the park, Alex in her beautiful new dress and me, Josh and Mitch in our matching suits. Josh looked so handsome in his suit and Alex was so cute in her dress. Mitch and I didn’t look half bad either. Okay, that is the last time I am going to brag, sorry, I couldn’t help it. We really did look good.
Our family and friends sat in the chairs that we rented as we stood in the back, waiting to walk down the aisle. Once our officiant nodded, Josh and Alex held hands and Mitch and I each took their other hand in ours. We all walked to the front together, they each let go of our hands as we stopped on our predetermined spot. Alex moved to my side and Josh was standing next to Mitch as Mitch and I took each other’s hands and recited our vows. After we were pronounced married, Josh and Alex once again took our hands as we walked down the aisle, this time with Mitch and I were in the center.
We all went back to our backyard for some good food and beverages. We really did have a great family and group of friends. I don’t think I have ever been hugged that much in my entire life, but I loved every hug I got.
After the guest began to leave, we grabbed Josh and Alex’s bags. They were going to stay with Beth and Kyle for the weekend. Beth would take them to school on Monday and Adam was going to pick them up after school. They would stay with Adam and Molly until we got back home on Friday. Adam’s kids went to the same school, so it was easier for them to stay there all week. Mitch and I were going to Cancun for our honeymoon. Alex was disappointed that we all couldn’t go to Disney World, but when Aunt Beth said they could go county fair that was in town that weekend, she seemed satisfied.
By the time we got the backyard cleaned up, we were so tired we went straight to sleep. We knew we would have all week, kid free, so there would be ample opportunity for some private daddy time.
We got to our hotel at a little after noon the next day. As soon as they brought our bags to our room, we locked the door. The room was perfect; we stepped out onto the terrace to see the view of the ocean. Mitch wrapped his arms around me and we started to kiss.
We kissed as we worked our way back inside, Mitch kicked the terrace door shut as we started to shed our clothes. By the time our underwear hit the floor, we were both hard as a rock. I pushed him back onto the bed, me falling on top of him. His hands were cupping my ass as I broke our kiss and began to nibble on his ears and neck. Mitch tipped his head back exposing his neck for more kisses. I worked my way down his chest and licked the pearl of precum from that magnificent cock that I fell in love with over 17 years ago.
I was soon bobbing up and down with Mitch’s hands on the back of my head. I don’t care how many times I’ve sucked that cock; I can never get enough of it. Today it seemed like so much more, we were now married and somehow my life seemed complete. It’s funny how a stupid piece of paper could mean so much.
Mitch groaned and pulled me up for a kiss. He whispered, “You had me close to the edge.”
He grinned as he tossed me onto my back and dove for my hard member, sucking it to the root in one smooth motion. With all the wedding preparations over the last couple of weeks, we really hadn’t had time for much else, Mitch was making up for all that time today. Just as he had me on the brink of erupting, he released my cock and pushed my legs up. That talented tongue soon found my aching hole, and he licked and sucked me to a state of pure euphoria. My head was writhing back and forth as my hands gripped the bedspread and moans flew from my lips.
Thankfully Mitch was good at anticipating my needs. I didn’t even have to ask; he just moved up for another kiss as he slowly began to push his leaking cock into my welcoming hole. We kept our lips locked together as he pistoned in and out, hitting my sweet spot with every stroke. My hands clamped onto that sweet hairy ass as Mitch did his best to breed me. We both let out a loud groan as our cocks simultaneously exploded, my cum flying all over our chests and the bedspread. Mitch’s seed flooded my insides, filling me with that familiar warm feeling I have enjoyed so many times over the years.
Mitch stayed on top of me until we caught our breath. He looked into my eyes and smiled, “I love being married to you.”
I returned his smile, “I love you too, being married is just the icing on the cake.”

…Your life is now everything that you ever imagined. Saving Alex’s insurance money for Conner and Cole was perfect. Beth had told you that they saved some money for the boys, but they would probably have to take out some loans to pay for all four years of college. That gift insured the boys would come out of college debt free. Beth, Kyle and the boys will forever be grateful. Alex would have been proud of you for keeping that secret for all those years.
Having Josh and Alex at your wedding was more than you could have ever hoped for. When Josh told you to just get married already will always be one of your favorite memories. Even at that young age, he knew it was the right thing to do. Deep down, you and Mitch knew it too.
In a few years, Josh and Alex will be leaving the nest, it will be another adjustment for you and Mitch. As always, you got this. Just listen to each other, without the kids around, you may need to get to know each other all over again.
