I’m not sure why, but that first night Mitch and I made love felt so right. Over the next couple of months, the subject of moving on from Alex and Josh came up more than once. The more Mitch and I talked about them, the more we knew that Alex and Josh would be okay with us being together. We also listened to the others in our support group talk about meeting someone new, they also told us it was okay to love another person. We decided to take things slow, but we definitely wanted to see where things went between us.

We began to spend a night a week at one or the other’s apartment. Rarely did our time go by without mentioning Alex or Josh. Those talks had moved on from the painful thoughts of their deaths to all the good times we each had. The tears of sadness were now tears of joy and laughter after each story. I felt like I knew Josh well and Mitch felt the same about Alex.

The last time I was at Mitch’s place, were holding each other after making love. Mitch said, “I talked to Adam today.”

I nodded, “Yeah? How is he doing?”

Mitch smiled, “He has a new girlfriend.”

I said, “Really, that’s great. When did they meet.”

He said, “He told me about a month ago. Adam asked if I would like to meet her.”

I nodded, “Okay.”

Mitch took a breath, “Would you like to meet Adam?”

I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I did want Mitch to meet my family at some point, and I thought that we were quickly reaching that point.

I smiled, “I would love to meet Adam and his girlfriend.”

Mitch gave me a kiss, “They invited us to their place on Saturday night for dinner.”

I asked, “Why were you so nervous about asking me to meet Adam?”

He shrugged, “The only other person I ever introduced to him was Josh. I wasn’t sure if you were at the same place in our relationship as I think I am.”

I nodded, “Well, I want you to meet my family too. Does that answer your question of where I am at in our relationship?”

He gave me another kiss, and we drifted off to sleep.

Saturday arrived and I started to become a little nervous about meeting Adam. When Mitch picked me up, he tried to assure me that I had nothing to be nervous about. I couldn’t help it but tried to hide my fear with my best smile.

My smile widened as Adam opened the door. He wrapped Mitch in a bear hug and said, “It’s so good to see you little bro.”

He let go of Mitch as he turned to the cute blond that was standing behind him. He said, “Molly, this is my little brother Mitchell, Mitchell his is my girlfriend, Molly.”

I chuckled to myself at Adam calling Mitch, Mitchell. It was kind of sweet.

Mitch took my hand and said, “Adam, Molly, this is my fri…” He paused and looked at me, then corrected himself, “My boyfriend, Jack.”

I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest. We had met a few of each other’s friends over the last few months and up until this point, we always introduced one another as a friend.

Adam smiled and gave me a hug as we all exchanged pleasantries. Other than Adam having a beard and slightly longer hair, he and Mitch could have passed for twins. It was more than obvious they were brothers. It was also clear that Adam was just as good of a cook as Mitch, Molly told us that she had nothing to do with preparing the meal, she had only arrived ten minutes before we did.

At one point, Mitch excused himself to go to the bathroom. Adam smiled at me, “I haven’t seen Mitchell this happy since Josh died. I’m glad he found you.”

I fought back a tear, “He makes me very happy too, Adam. I’m the lucky one.”

Adam chuckled, “You two are perfect for each other, you’re just as sappy as he is.”

Mitch returned as we were laughing and asked, “What’s so funny?”

Adam grinned, “Jack was telling me that you had a little pecker.”

Molly slapped Adam’s shoulder, “He said no such thing, be nice to your brother.

I couldn’t help but smile, that reminded me of something my own brother would say. I just gave Mitch a shrug as he sat back down beside me. I whispered, “I didn’t say that.”

Mitch nodded and said, “I know, he’s just busting my balls. Like always.”

By the end of the night, it was as if we had been friends for years. Adam was just as nice as Mitch and Molly was a real sweetheart.

We got in Mitch’s car to drive home, he took my hand and said, “I told you not to be nervous, Adam loved you, and I like Molly a lot.”

I grinned, “I know, and I like them both too. Mitchell.”

I could sense Mitch roll his eyes, “You’ve been waiting all night to pull that one out, haven’t you?”

I chuckled, “I thought it was cute.”

He sighed, “My mom hated it when people called me Mitch. She said if she wanted people to call me Mitch, she would have named me Mitch. She named me Mithcell.”

I asked, “Does it bother you that I call you Mitch?”

He squeezed my hand, “No, I prefer it. Whenever mom wasn’t around, all my friends called me Mitch. Adam and dad were the only ones that called me Mitchell all the time, Adam still does.”

I squeezed his hand back, “I’ll call you whatever you want me to.”

He kissed my hand, “Mitch is fine.”

Because that night went so well, I called Beth and invited her, Kyle and the boys to my place the following week. Mitch and I found another new recipe and cooked it together.

As I opened the door, Conner and Cole ran past me, followed closely by Kyle, he said over his shoulder, “We need to use the little boy’s room, fast.”

We chuckled as Beth gave me a hug, “I told them to go before we left home, it’s only a 20-minute drive.”

I smiled, “It’s fine, I’m glad you could all come over.”

I took Mitch’s hand and said, “Beth, this is my boyfriend, Mitch.” I didn’t even pause at using the term boyfriend, glad that Mitch had already broken through that barrier. “Mitch, this is my bonus sister, Beth.”

Beth smiled and gave Mitch a hug, “So nice to finally meet you. I saw you at the support group meeting, but we didn’t get a chance to talk. Jack has told me a lot of nice things about you.”

Mitch nodded, “I have heard a lot of good things about you too.”

Conner came running into the room and jumped into my arms, “Hi Uncle Jack.”

Cole took Conner’s place as soon as I put Conner down. He looked suspiciously at Mitch and asked, “Who’s that, Uncle Jack?”

I didn’t want to confuse the boys, they knew Alex and I were boyfriends. I thought it might upset them if said that Mitch was now my boyfriend, so I said, “This is my friend, Mitch.”

Conner was giving Mitch the once over as well, as I said, “Mitch, this is Cole and this is Conner.”

Mitch smiled and said, “Hey guys, it’s nice to meet you.”

Cole asked, “Is he your friend, like Uncle Alex was your friend?”

Beth said, “Boys, I …”

I stopped her, I went to my knees in front of him and said, “Yes Cole, Mitch is my friend just like Alex. Is that okay?”

He shrugged and jumped out of my arms and said, “Sure. Hey mom did you bring my truck in with you?”

Beth smiled and said, “Yes, it’s in the bag, over by the door.”

The boys grabbed the bag and ran into the other room to play.

Beth said, “You handled that beautifully Jack. I wasn’t sure what I was going to say if they asked me that question.”

I smiled, “I’m just glad it went so well.” I introduced Mitch to Kyle, and we started putting dinner on the table. Kyle went to get the boys and we all sat down to eat. The new recipe was a big hit and just like last week, we were all getting along great. As soon as we finished eating, the boys ran back into the other room to play while we talked and had a cup of coffee.

As we started to clear the table, Cole ran in and said, “Uncle Jack can we watch our Aladdin movie?”

I said, “Sure buddy, I’ll help you get the VCR started.”

Once I had the movie started, I paused at the door when I heard Beth mention my name.

She said, “This is the happiest I have seen Jack since Alex died. He was going through a pretty rough patch before he met you.”

Mitch said, “So was I. Jack has no idea that he was the one that really rescued me. My brother was so worried about me that he came to my apartment every night, just so I wasn’t alone. Jack has given me a reason to get up every morning.”

Kyle added, “We were worried about leaving Jack alone too.”

I took a deep breath; I can’t tell you what it meant to me to learn that I was as important to Mitch as he was to me. I said, “Just come get me if you want a different movie, boys.”

Beth, Mitch and Kyle quickly continued to clear the table as I walked back into the kitchen, all pretending that conversation didn’t happen. After we finished cleaning up, we joined the boys and watched their movie with them. When the movie ended, Beth packed up the boys things, and we started to say goodbye.

Cole was first to give me a hug, “Goodbye Uncle Jack.”

After my hug, he paused as he looked at Mitch, then he ran over to him. Mitch got down on his knees for a hug, Cole said, “See ya later Uncle Mitch.”

Conner did the same, bringing a tear to both mine and Mitch’s eye. After we hugged Beth and Kyle, Mitch had his arm around me as we said goodbye and closed the door.

Mitch gave me a kiss, “If Alex was half as nice as his family, I can see why you loved him.”

I smiled, “They are pretty special, aren’t they?”

I had no reason to believe that introducing Mitch to my parents and siblings would not go as well as our last two meetings. But it’s still a big deal when you introduce a new partner to your family and their approval is always important. Mitch was a bit nervous a few weeks later as we drove to my parents’ house for a weekend stay.

Through all of questions during our drive, I just told him that it didn’t matter what my family thought. I wanted to be with him and that’s all that really matters. This seemed to put him at ease, at least a little bit anyway.

In the last year and a half, both my sister and brother had gotten married. Sis, because she and her boyfriend had been together for 4 years and it was time. My brother, however, had only been with his current girlfriend for 2 years. When he learned that he would not only be buying dad a father’s day gift this year, but he would also be receiving one, he decided he should be married to his child’s mother.

My sister’s wedding was right after Mitch and I first started seeing each other, so he did not attend with me. That was the first and only time that I met my brother’s wife. They had a quick courthouse wedding right after they found out that she was pregnant, so I didn’t know her well.

Mitch and I left work early on Friday, mom was planning a big family meal for everyone to get better acquainted. We arrived a little after 5, my sister and brother were not yet there. I was a little relieved, I thought it would be a little easier for Mitch if we didn’t walk into a full house.

After I made the introductions, mom wrapped Mitch in a hug, followed by a handshake from dad. Mom began the third degree as I helped her set the table and Mitch just smiled as he answered all of mom’s questions. Dad winked at me and rolled his eyes as he put the rest of chairs around the table.

Sis arrived just as we had the table ready for dinner. Again, I made introductions and Mitch, and her husband were having a nice conversation. I smiled seeing my family welcoming Mitch so warmly. I heard my brother pull up, I had warned Mitch about his usual greeting. Mitch grinned at me as the door opened and my brother and his wife walked in. She was due in a little over a month, and her pregnant belly was leading the way.

My brother grinned when he saw me and put me in his usual headlock, “It’s so good to see you, ya little queer.”

I elbowed him in the gut and said, “It’s good to see you too, ya big douche bag.”

Mom sighed, “Will you two never grow out of that?”

Big bro pulled me into a hug and said, “That’s just how we show our love mom, you know that.”

She shook her head as she told us all to sit down and eat. Other than our greeting, it was clear that his new wife was having a good effect on my brother. He was very pleasant to Mitch and the more I got to know his wife, the more I liked her too.

The rest of the evening went just as well; we were soon saying our goodbyes. After my brother and I went through our usual name calling ritual, my brother was shaking Mitch’s hand.

He said, “I haven’t seen Jack this happy in a long time, you be sure and take care of him.”

Mitch smiled, “I promise, I will. Ya big douche bag.”

Dad and I nearly fell on the floor laughing as my brother just stared at Mitch.

My brother looked at me, smirked, and said, “I like him.” He turned back to Mitch and said, “You’ll fit in just fine around here, welcome to the family.”

Mitch joined me and dad still laughing, mom just shook her head and said, “I’m going to bed, I’ll see you in the morning.”

Mom made us a big breakfast the next morning and we spent the morning catching up on all the things going on around town. I decided I wanted Mitch to meet Dan and Stacey, so I gave them a call. They had met Alex and were happy that I was now seeing someone new. We made plans to have dinner and then go to the bar for a drink afterward. Dan and Stacy had married a couple of years ago and had just had a new baby a month ago. They liked Mitch too.

After dinner, we arrived at the bar, found a table and ordered our drinks. Just as the server delivered them, the bathroom door opened as Rob walked out and returned to his seat at the bar. After he sat down, he looked over his shoulder and saw us. I was going to say hi, I hadn’t seen or talked to him since I told him and Dan that I was gay. Before I could say anything, he quickly turned back toward the bar.

The bartender asked, “Can, I get you another beer, Rob?”

He emptied his bottle and said, “Nope, I’m suddenly not thirsty anymore.”

He stood, glanced at us again and walked out the door.

Dan said, “Don’t let it bother you Jack, he hasn’t talked to me since that day either.”

We explained everything to Mitch, telling him that we used to be good friends. Dan said, “He usually stays every night until about 10, I guess he decided to go home to the wife and kids a little bit early tonight.”

Mitch shook his head, “I had a couple of friends like that too, it’s their loss.”

We spent the next day with my family again and started our hour-long drive home. We were both pleased that we had the support of all our family and agreed we were lucky. Some of our other gay friends were not as fortunate and had not seen their families in years.

As we pulled into town, Mitch took my hand and said, “I know it’s Sunday night and we have to work in the morning, but maybe we could spend the night at my place?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know, we’ve been away all weekend and I have laundry to do…”

Mitch began to look disappointed, but instead of turning down the street to go to his place, I pulled up to my apartment.

He asked, “Why aren’t you dropping me off at my place first?”

I smirked, “Just stay in the car, I’ll grab my clothes for work tomorrow and be right back to take you to your place.”

He rolled his eyes, “I’m glad I didn’t have to twist your arm too hard.”

I was back in the car in a few minutes, and we were on our way to Mitch’s apartment. We stepped inside and shared a kiss.

Mitch said, “You had me worried for a minute. I wasn’t sure you wanted to spend the night.”

I smiled, “I will never turn down the chance to spend the night with you.”

He returned my smile, “Then consider it a standing invitation.”

We kissed again and he said, “I really like your family.”

I nodded, “They like you too.” I chuckled, “I’m not sure my brother knew what to say when you called him a big douche bag.”

Mitch smiled, “I was just trying to fit in.”

I laughed, “You succeeded.”

He gave me another kiss and said, “I think I will take a shower. Do you care to join me?”

I started to peel my clothes off, still standing in the kitchen. Mitch laughed, “I guess that is a yes.”

We were soon naked and I was following that sweet hairy ass to the bathroom. We resumed our kissing as we stepped under the water and our hard cocks rubbed against each other. We let our hands explore each other’s body as we soaped up and rinsed off. I don’t care how many times I touch Mitch; I always find something new to love about him.

After we gave each other’s cock a quick suck, we climbed out of the shower and dried off. Once again, I followed that perfect ass to the bedroom. My hands grabbed Mitch’s ass as we moved into a sixty-nine position and began to feast. Mitch was in rare form tonight; it only took a few minutes to have me close to orgasm.

I pushed him off my cock and onto his back. We shared another kiss before I pushed his legs in the air. That tasty cock of his was just the appetizer, I was ready to move onto the main course. I gave Mitch’s plump nuts a quick suck and ran my tongue across his winking pucker. God, he tasted so good.

He moaned as I gave his hole a thorough working over, pushing my tongue in as deep as I could. Mitch’s head was writhing back and forth as he held his legs as far apart as he could. The precum leaking out of that gorgeous cock was filling his bellybutton. I left his ass just long enough to lick his navel clean.

Mitch moaned, “Oh God.” As I went back to work on his hole and his cock twitched. A few minutes later, he was begging me to fuck him. I was more than happy to answer his prayer, after all, I was praying for the same thing.

I moved up for a kiss and aimed my cock; Mitch reached down and guided me inside. We both let out a deep breath as I bottomed out, and my nuts were tight against that hairy butt. I loved the way the hairs tickled my balls.

I began to pump in and out and was soon up to speed. Mitch and I were both panting like two dogs in heat. Out of respect for my parents, we refrained from engaging in any carnal activities while we were home for the weekend. We both felt the need to make for lost time, even though in had only been a couple of days.

Our lips remained locked together as Mitch grabbed my ass and pulled me in faster and harder. I was starting to feel the pressure building. If he didn’t let me slow down, I was going to fill him with my seed and do it very soon. Mitch didn’t let me slow down, I breathed into his mouth, “I’m close.” Since his tongue down my throat, I’m not sure he had any idea what I said.

I pushed in as far as I could and let my baby batter fly. Mitch was holding me so tight, I’m sure he left his handprints on my ass. My body went limp and I collapsed on top of him as he loosened his grip. He broke our kiss and smiled at me. “Did that feel good?”

I nodded, “Oh yeah.”

He gave me a quick peck on the lips, “Good, now it’s my turn to feel good.”

Mitch squirmed out from under me and quickly moved between my legs. He stuffed a pillow under my hips to expose my waiting hole. I let out a breath as his tongue worked it’s magic. It was now my turn to beg to be fucked.

I felt Mitch’s weight on me as his manhood slowly penetrated me. He bit into my neck as he started to piston in and out, hitting my love button with every stroke. My dick swelled back to life with every pump Mitch gave me. I was certainly in my happy place as I felt his breath in my ear. I heard his breathing become ragged and I knew what was coming next.

One last push from Mitch and his warmth flooded my insides. My renewed cock twitched again, sending another load into the pillow holding my ass up. I now had Mitch’s full weight holding me down, and I didn’t mind at all. I felt so safe.

Mitch whispered into my ear, “I love you.”

My heart melted, neither of us had said those words before. Without hesitation I panted back, “God, I love you too.”

Mitch moved so that I could turn over and we kissed again to seal what we had just said. It was all so natural and felt so right.

We finally broke our kiss and cleaned up. We crawled back into bed, and I settled in with my back against his chest and his arms wrapped around me. This is where I needed to be.

The next morning, we dressed and got ready to leave for work. We both said, “I love you.” as we got in our cars and drove away. I was getting easier to say and it still felt right. Throughout the rest of the week, I wanted to talk about moving in together. We spent every night seeing each other, but I wanted Mitch to give me some indication that he wanted the same thing.

On Thursday, I was at my apartment, alone. Mitch had a late meeting and told me he would call after he got home. Things were going so well, too well in fact. The last time things were going this well, something very bad happened. I couldn’t shake the queasy feeling I had deep in my gut. I needed to talk to someone about this. I called Beth.

She said, “Jesus Christ Jack, it so obvious you guys love each other, just ask him to move in with you.”

I sighed, “I know you’re right, but…”

She interrupted, “But what? Remember what happened the last time you waited for someone else to make the first move. You will never know until you ask. The worst thing that will happen is that Mitch will tell you he is not ready.”

Beth was right again. I lay on the couch watching TV waiting for Mitch to call. I fell asleep and woke the next morning. Damn, I hope I didn’t sleep through his call. I called his apartment, but he didn’t answer. I was now starting to panic. As soon as I got to work, I called his office and got his voicemail.

I left a message, “Hey, I fell asleep last night, I hope I didn’t miss your call. I’ll make dinner tonight if you want. Just come over after work. Give me a call when you can. I love you.”

By 5:00, I still had not heard from Mitch. I know he said they would be having a lot of meetings on Thursday and Friday. God, I hope he was just busy at work and would call as soon as he was done. I was so relieved to see Mitch’s car in the parking lot when I got home. I gave him a big bear hug as soon as we each got out of our cars. I did not like the look on his face.

I asked, “What’s the matter?”

He sighed, “Let’s go inside, it’s been a long day.”

That damn queasy feeling was back, bigger and stronger than ever.

Once we got inside, I said, “Okay, something is wrong. What is it?”

He said, “The meetings we’ve having were to tell us that the company has been sold again. They are consolidating my department with the office in San Francisco.”

I said, “So… does that mean you lost your job?”

He shook his head, “Not yet. They want me to transfer to San Francisco.”

I took a deep breath, “What did you tell them?”

Mitch said, “I haven’t told them anything yet. They have me scheduled to go to California next Wednesday to meet with the team out there.”

…I did tell you that life will throw you a curveball every now and then, didn’t I? Don’t start thinking the worst just yet. I know it’s hard for you to not overreact and immediately imagine the worst-case scenario. You have done that your entire life. Just be there for Mitch. If you really care for him, just listen to him and offer your support. Don’t say or do anything to make him feel guilty for considering this opportunity.

Talk to each other and you can work things out.
