After a close call in Denver, the boys make it Salt Lake City, things go smoothly there, and they soon arrive at their destination. Now the need a plan to get out of the train without be caught. They find a place to stay for the night and get cozy with James.
Ivan, Patrick and James continue their journey to California. The guys occupy their time discussing their past experiences. They stop in Omaha and stay undiscovered, but when they reach Denver, things don't go as smoothly.
Ivan gets a letter from Henry and relives some fond memories. The truth come out about what really happened to James. Patrick and Ivan are so upset by the news, they step in and take drastic measures to help him.

When his father tells him there is an opening for him, he takes drastic steps. He may come to regret his choice.
