The story will be moving forward some. We will be keeping up with the guys as prom approaches. This will be an interesting time for all our characters and their development. I do apologize for getting behind. My plan is to try to get a chapter per week. I hope you enjoy, as always, I love the feedback.
This week things had changed a bit. Upon the suggestion of my mom, we had swapped out the king size bed, and two queen sized beds were delivered today. We had set them up and gotten everything settled in. There were also two desks and all to go with them. I think mom’s idea was that we could each have our own space on opposite sides of the room. However, we put both desks in front of the window together and the beds on the opposite wall. The weather had warmed quite a bit and we were in the last week of April, there was a lot going on in the next few weeks, this weekend was prom, next weekend was the state baseball tournament begins and then there was graduation of the seniors, and that would make us officially the “new” seniors of the school. Rose was going to graduate, and she could finally be off to date her choice of softball players. Ha. There was still some tension in the air with Tara looming. She had admitted she was not pregnant; she was just trying to get Hudson’s attention. He was way too nice about this. He told her that he would still be in her life as a friend, but nothing more. I sort of thought this was a slippery slope, however, I was sticking to my hands off approach.
Hudson and I were finishing up chores it was getting dark by now and he stopped by the barn and said, “do you hear that”. I stopped and said, “what”, he said, “shh, hang on”, and he went into the barn. He came out holding a small tri-color calico kitten. I looked at him and said, “umm what is that”. He said, “it’s a kitten, what does it look like”. I said, “ok well that’s odd”. The kitten looked to be about 6 weeks old. He turned it around and proclaimed I think it’s a boy. The kitten then snuggled in Hudson’s arms. I knew that kitten felt safe there, Hudson said, “he’s purring”. I looked at the kitten and said, “I get it kitty, I get it”. We finished helping with chores went in the house. Hudson, took the kitten up to our room and into the bathroom, he said, “do we have any cat food”. I said, “let me check I think there is some in the garage grams used to feed strays”. I went and found some canned food, and grabbed a foil pan, some bowls, and pine shavings that mom used for mulch. Mom seen me and said, “do I want to know”. I just chuckled and said, “Hudson found a kitten in the barn”. She just said, “oh lord, well let me know if I need to go get anything”. I hurried upstairs and into the bathroom. We set everything up for him. He ate some and then went and curled up on the hoodie that Hudson had taken off. We left and went to do some homework.
We were setting at our desks when Hudon looked over at me. I could sense he was uncomfortable. I said, “what’s wrong”. He didn’t reply, he just got up and moved his stuff to my desk and continued working. Just then mom said, “dinner”. We headed down to eat. We talked about the day, and what was coming up this week and prom for the weekend. After dinner we cleaned the kitchen and instead of going to watch tv I headed back upstairs. I needed to use the bathroom. I went in, closed the door, the kitten was fast asleep with a full belly. Hudson went up and was helping Jimmy with some homework. I used the bathroom and decided to see just how he had arranged the towels and closet. I opened the door and noticed the towels were neatly arranged on the shelf. I was about to close the door and noticed the drawer at the bottom was open a bit. Oh no! In that drawer I kept um some private things. I had honestly forgot about. I should have cleaned it out. Oh my. So, I opened the drawer. Clearly Hudson had seen what was in there. Then Lloyd said, “I think if you two are going to be making a splash at the prom, then why not make it an expensive splash, I have a tailor coming tomorrow morning to take measurements and custom make you tuxes, and you can choose whatever you want”. He said, “sure let’s go to the garage”. We got to the rather large, attached garage, and there was a brand-new Ford Explorer with a red bow on the hood. He said, “look I know Cole has a good truck and van, but you should be able to drive yourself places if you need to and not depend on others, and that includes coming here to see me”. Lloyd just replied, “I know you are fine, I just want to help, and this summer you can work it off out here on the farm or something. They both agreed they would love to help him this summer.
