Chapter 11

Tony

This had been one strange week, on Thursday morning before Jace came out to work on the barn, a big truck pulled into my drive. I was getting some records entered in my computer when I saw it, as I looked out the window.

I walked out my door as a large man walked up to my porch. I said, “hi, can I help you?”

He said, “well, you sure are getting the old place looking good, Mr. Malone.”

I said, “thank you, Mr. …”

He held out his hand, “oh, I’m sorry, it’s Nelson, Tom Nelson.”

I shook his hand, “what can I do for you Mr. Nelson?” I noticed how much Alex looked like his father.

He took his hat off, “please call me Tom.”

“What can I do for you Mr. Nelson?” I asked again.

He gave me a look, “right to business, I like that. Mr. Malone, I was just wondering why you are so interested in the Grisham kid’s disappearance. We all know he just ran away.”

I crossed my arms across my chest, “well, his name is Tanner Grisham, not that Grisham kid. I don’t know that he ran away Mr. Nelson. I just think Tanner’s parents deserve some closure, as a father yourself, I would think you would understand that.”

He looked me up and down, “yes, I guess that is true. As a parent, I would also hope my son would find a better group of friends to hang out with.”

I was starting to get pissed, “what is that supposed to mean.”

He said, “let’s just say, that Parker kid just doesn’t have the best reputation.”

I had had enough, “Mr. Nelson, what the hell do you want?”

He smirked, “I did some checking, I know what you paid for this place, I am here to offer you twice that price, plus the upgrades you have completed. You can take the check and you and Parker can ride off into the sunset, and this town can get back to its old peaceful ways.”

I stepped down to look him in the eyes, “first of all, this place isn’t for sale. Second, this town doesn’t seem to be upset by my presence, only you do. Why is that Mr. Nelson?”

The smirked disappeared from his face, “just think about my offer Mr. Malone.” He turned and got in his truck and left.

My mind was racing, what the hell was that all about? I didn’t tell Jace about that visit, he just seemed so happy working on the barn, and I was so happy being with him. I just couldn’t bring myself to spoil his mood.

If that visit wasn’t upsetting enough, then we had the run in with his son Alex the next night at the bar. What the hell was wrong with the Nelson family, why was I such a threat?

The week only got worse Saturday morning when that fat ass Chief King came out and hauled Jace away. As soon as they left, I ran down to the barn, holy shit, the tools were there. Who the hell is setting us up? I know Jace didn’t steal them, he was with me the whole night.

I ran back to the house and called Mason Gimble, he went to college with Liam and I, and after law school, he joined his father’s law firm. His father was one of the best defense attorneys in the state.

He answered his phone, “hey Tony, how are you?”

I said, “I’m good Mason, how about you?”

“I’m good, hey, I was so sorry to hear about Liam, I was in the middle of a big case, or I would have come to the funeral.” He said.

“Thank you, I understand, I did get the card you sent.” I told him.

He asked, “so, what can I do for you?”

I replied, “I need some legal advice, my friend was just hauled away by the police.”

I explained what had just happened, he listened and asked a few more questions.

He said, “I’ll be there in three hours. Tell Jace not to say a word.”

I hung up the phone, feeling a little bit relieved, God Jace, don’t say anything to get yourself in any more trouble. I sent him a text to tell him I had a lawyer, I heard his phone beep, it was laying on the kitchen counter. I was sitting at my desk looking out at the barn, trying to figure out what to do next. I thought back to what the Chief said about taking me in too, why didn’t he take me in? The tools were in my barn, Jace didn’t even live here. He never asked where I was last night either. Somebody must be setting Jace up.

I was pacing the floor thinking about the week’s events, the only thing I knew for sure was that the Nelsons were upset about me being in Green Lake. Finally, Mason called, He said, “I’m 10 minutes away, can you meet me the police station?”

I was already walking out the door, “yep, that’s about how long to will take for me to get there.”

We arrived at the station at about the same time, Mason got out of his car and walked to me.

I gave him a hug, “thank you so much for coming so quickly.”

He smiled, “no problem, I just wrapped up a big case and was wondering what I was going to do next. Tell me what’s going on.”

I gave him a quick run-down of the day’s events.

He asked, “so chief just walked into your barn? Did he have a warrant?”

I shook my head, “he didn’t show me one.”

He said, “did he arrest Jace?”

I said, “no, he just said he wanted to ask him some questions.”

He shook his head, “come on, we have to get in there before Jace slips up and says something.”

We walked in the door and saw Jace sitting in a chair across the desk from the chief. The Green Lake police station was basically one room with a desk and four chairs and a restroom off of the corner of the room. If anyone in town was arrested, the chief had to take them to the county jail in the county seat, Jamestown, about 10 miles away.

Chief King looked at us in surprise as we burst through the door, “who the hell are you?”

Mason threw him a business card, “I am Mr. Parker’s lawyer, and he has nothing more to say to say to you.”

Chief looked at the card, “I am still asking him some questions, you can have him when I am done.”

Mason laughed, “oh no chief, that is not how this works. Is Jace under arrest?”

Chief just looked at Mason, “well, no but…”

Mason jumped in, “then he is free to go, you come see me when you have a warrant for his arrest. By the way you will need a search warrant if you want set foot on Mr. Malone's property ever again.”

Chief stood up, “look here Mr. Gimble, this ain’t the big city, we do things a little different around here.”

Mason walked toward the chief, “it doesn't matter if we are in the city, or Green Lake, the law is the same. You had no right to question my client once he said he wanted a lawyer, and you had no right to search Mr. Malone’s barn without a warrant. You get your shit together, then we will talk.”

Chief just sat back in his chair stunned, as Mason turned to Jace and I, “come on guys, we are done here.”

We walked out the door, I burst into laughter as soon as we made it outside. There was something so satisfying about seeing that fat bastard put in his place.

I asked Jace, “are you ok?”

He sighed, “yeah, I’m good. I spent three hours just telling the chief I didn’t steal anything, and I had plenty witnesses that saw us in the South Shore Bar last night.”

I said, “good, by the way this is Mason Gimble, Mason, this is Jace Parker.” They shook hands.

Mason said, “don’t worry guys, this case will never see a courtroom, that jerk in there doesn’t have a clue about the law, I don’t know how he has been a cop for this long. Shit, he makes Barney Fife seem like a genius.”

I laughed, “so what do we do now?”

He said, “you guys go home, I am going to go to Jamestown to talk to the County Attorney. I went to law school with him, and I want to fill him in on what the chief thinks is a proper way to perform an investigation. You make sure to call me if he tries to talk to you again.”

He got in his car and drove away, and we headed back to my place. Jace sat quietly in the passenger seat.

I asked, “are you sure you’re ok?”

He nodded, “yeah, I’m just drained, that guy is nuts.”

I chuckled, “I think Mason has his number, we’ll get to the bottom of this.”

We walked into the house and Jace grabbed my arm, “I forgot to tell you thank you.” He pulled me in for a hug.

I asked, “thank you? for what?”

He looked at me, “for calling Mason, for coming to the police station, for believing me. I have never had anyone do that for me before.”

I gave him a kiss, and said, “that’s what you do for someone you care about.”

A tear rolled down his cheek and he kissed me even deeper. A minute later, we were naked and making out on my bed.

Our hard cocks were rubbing together as we rolled from side to side, our hands exploring every inch of each other’s bodies. Jace kissed his way down my chest and stomach and landed on my aching dick, he licked my shaft up and down before it was buried in his throat. My eyes rolled back in my head, and I moaned with every stroke he made with his tongue. He moved down licking my balls and then my pink pucker. Once he worked over my hole, he came back up to me for a kiss as he pushed his cock deep in my hole. God, I loved the feel of his chest hair on my smooth skin, his long hair falling to cover both of our faces as we kissed. I felt my nuts start to tighten and I unloaded, covering our chests with my hot cum. I felt Jace's cock spasm, and a warm feeling coated my well used hole. We caught our breath and lay there holding each other for an hour.

We took a shower and headed back downstairs, Jace grabbed a couple bottles of beer from the fridge, and we went out on the front porch to enjoy the sunset.

Mason called and said he was on his way back, he asked about staying at the motel and I told him I had a guest room he was welcome to stay with us. I gave him directions and 20 minutes later, he was pulling in my driveway. I got us all another beer and we sat out on the porch.

Mason said, “Chad Ashton is the new county attorney, he was elected in the last election. Chad and I went to law school together and he’s a good guy.”

I asked, “is it standard for opposing attorneys to talk like this about a case.”

He smiled, “no, not usually, but like I said earlier, this case will never see a courtroom. They will never be able to introduce the stolen tools because they were found without a search warrant. You guys have lots of witnesses for the time of the robbery.”

Jace asked, “what about my record?”

Mason shook his head, “that’s inadmissible, it has no bearing on the case. I do have to ask you one question though.”

Jace said, “what’s that?”

He sat up in his chair, “did you steal those tools?”

Jace sighed, “no, I did not.”

Mason sat back, “good, I just had to make sure.”

I stood, “come on Mason, I’ll show you to your room.”

He stood as I held the door open for him, he looked up and stopped. He asked, “does that work?”

Jace and I looked up at the security camera, then looked at each other.

Jace said, “shit I forgot about those.”

Cory had given us a set of cameras that he had taken out of home that he did an upgrade on. He installed them for us the last time he was home.

We immediately went to my desk, and I clicked on the camera icon on my screen, we searched until we found 6 pm the night before. We saw Jace and I walking out of the barn and headed to the house. We continued to watch, and at about 7:30, we saw us get in my Jeep to leave for town. I fast forwarded, the truck and Jace’s Honda never moved. Then at 11:30 a vehicle pulled up to the barn, we watched him step out of the truck and start to unload the contents into the barn. Son of a bitch, why would he be doing this. Once the truck was unloaded, he left, and a half hour later we saw my Jeep drive up and Jace and I go to the house.

Mason asked, “you know that guy?”

We both nodded.

He smiled, “download the file to this zip drive, we will be taking that to our meeting tomorrow with Chad and the Chief.
