Sleep doesn’t come easy for Devonté; he lays awake every night for hours unable to sleep, anger has overcome and all he can do is think of revenge.

Seeing images of Ash hurt every time he closed his eyes, he knew he had to get back at his aggressors.

*phone rings*

“Hello” Devonté answered.

“Yow, what the fuck happened?!”, George barked, “yow they nearly killed my fucking cousin” he screamed

“I know bro!” Devonté responded, equally upset, “I’m gonna handle it...”

The moment he got out of the hospital himself, he started mobilizing his ‘men’ to get info on who could’ve attacked him.

“you need to move faster on that shit my dude, have somebody’s neck for me real quick” George commanded.

***

After a month in the hospital, Ash was home.

He had recovered slowly learning how to breathe again and move around more after having been in cast and braces for three weeks.

Everything seemed so surreal one moment he was enjoying a walk, and the next he was almost killed. The nightmares had stopped and the hospital provided for mental therapy to help get over the attack. He was in a much better place mentally and physically and his mom was there all the time to assist, except for when he was at work.

Devonté was there as well, Ash noticed he was just physically there but nothing else. He would avoid eye contact with Ash and kept his conversations to a minimal “are you okay?” or “do you need my help?” he would stop by only when Ash’s mom was at work, after that he would leave.

***that night***

The Intel Devonté had received from his guy proved accurate and without hesitation sent his men to attack, in and out as he was so well known for.

He made sure he had an alibi should they be sloppy and stayed home that night.

By 2 a.m. he got confirmation that the job was done, and his men had come out unscathed.

He thought of going to Ash’s in the morning.

***while Ash’s mom was at work***

Devonté seemed a little more relaxed Ash observed, while Devonté sat on the bed toward he feet.

Ash crawled over to him.

“what’s on your mind?”

“Oh nothing” Devonté answered briefly turning his attention to Ash, “are you okay?”

“I swear if you ask me that again, we’re gonna fight” Ash said sarcastically with a hint of annoyance.

Devonté chuckled, then he sighed.

“something is bothering you, I can see it” he pulled him in, laying between his legs so Devonté was staring straight up at him.

“I got it handled” Devonté half confessed, shifting his gaze from Ash’s smile

“Got what handled?” Ash quizzed, his smile dropped.

Devonté turned his whole body around and sat facing Ash, his demeanour was now different, it was rough, and serious.

“do you know what I do?” Devonté asked his expression unchanging.

“you do gang shit, I know my cousin so I know as much” Ash responded.

“do you know that I kill people too” Devonté asked again, his expression unchanging.

Ash felt himself tremble in shock, “I ah-“he begun.

“I killed the guys who attacked us” Devonté said in a very dark tone. Ash’s eyes went wide, “and I don’t regret it” Devonté concluded, holding Ash’s arms.

Ash went silent, in shock and confusion. His eyes began to fill with tears, “I don’t know what to say”

“you don’t have to say a word, I handled it and that’s that” Devonté spoke assertively.

Silence filled the space between them for what seems like eternity.

“how do you feel?” Ash asked softly, pulling Devonté onto the bed, so he was laying next to him.

Once settled Devonté exhaled, and broke down, Ash immediately wrapped his arms around him, as his Devonté wept.

“I thought I’d feel better but I don’t” Devonté admitted, mid sob, “I was so fucking angry, but now I feel empty”

Ash lifted his face so he could look directly at him, and Devonté stared into his eyes and they kissed. Their lips locked into each other and their hands roamed their bodies, this kissed felt like forgiveness to Devonté and he longed for that, he longed for security between them. The atmosphere exploded with their shared passion and emotion and their tongues fought for each others unlocked need for the other.

They kissed for what seemed like forever. When they finally separated, Devonté held Ash tightly and whispered, “I’m sorry” as he buried his face into Ash’s chest.

“I forgive you Devonté, I forgive you” Ash responding, pulling him into him even more.

Ash could feel the tension in Devonté’s body lift, and soon heard him lightly snoring signalling his departure into sleep. He however could not sleep, could do nothing but comfort Devonté, while his mind began to flood with the information he just shared with him, and what this kiss means.

Chapter: 8... The Journey Begins

Author Note:

About a year ago I lost my cousin in a horrific accident so one of my ways of dealing with it was to right him in my story. Of all the characters George is not fictional. Thank you all for your comments and interest in this series, I hope that in this period of panic and worry (because of COVID-19) you stay healthy and clean, let’s see each other on the other side of this. Xx
