Chapter 8: Will

I would be lying if I said that I was not upset when Liam had to leave. It had been a while since the last time I was intimate with someone, and even though we had just met, I could feel some sort of undeniable connection with Liam. He is all I have been able to think about since I laid eyes on him that first day.

When I returned home from dropping Liam off, I immediately pulled out my phone, feeling the need to text him and see if he was okay. But, I knew it was not my place. We were not even dating. Hell, I did not have a clue what we were, but that did not lessen the feeling any.

Instead, I shoved my phone back into my pocket and walked into the kitchen. My parents were sitting at the table talking. They had waited for me to return before starting. When I took my seat between my parents, my mom looked at me with concern in her eyes.

“Is everything alright,” She asked, placing her hand over mine.

“Yeah,” I replied giving her a large smile. “Liam’s dad just needed some help with something.”

Her look of concern was replaced with a smile.

“He seems like a great boy,” she praised, taking her hand away from mine. I just nodded and began shoveling food onto my plate.

“You should invite him over for dinner sometime next week,” she continued. I groaned inwardly. I should have known she would not just leave it alone. “What do you think, honey?” She asked my dad, who had been listening quietly.

I turned to look at my dad. The thought of Liam sitting through dinner with my parents was terrifying. There was no way I would make it through unscathed.

“I think it’s a great idea,” he answered with a grin. “I want to meet Will’s new boyfriend.”

“Dad!” I groaned. He started laughing and my mom joined in. “We’re not dating,” I defended.

“Awe, but you two would be so cute together,” my mom cooed.

I groaned and sank back into my chair. The rest of dinner was spent with my parents asking questions about Liam and teasing about how we would be such a cute couple. Eventually, I had sat through the torture long enough to warrant being done with dinner.

I quickly placed my plate in the sink and rushed up the stairs to my room. I could still hear my mother giggling when I entered my room. I shut my bedroom door behind me and fell onto my bed, not bothering to change or take off my shoes.

I took in a deep breath and inhaled Liam’s scent, which still lingered on the sheets. I was itching to take my phone out and text him, but instead I stood up and undressed, leaving my phone in my pocket, out of sight out of mind.

I slipped on a pair of basketball shorts and climbed back into bed. It was still fairly early, but I could not concentrate enough to do anything else. I laid there for the remainder of the night and thought about Liam, about what we had started earlier and about what I was going to say to him when I saw him again. Eventually, I fell asleep and my thoughts blended into dreams.

***

I did not see Liam for the rest of the weekend. He texted me on Saturday and told me that everything was okay. Some friends had come to visit from out of town and his dad had wanted him to be home. He also told me he was sorry for the abrupt ending the previous night, but I told him it was alright, and that I was looking forward to picking up where we left off.

All of this played through my mind over and over again as I leaned against the locker next to his Monday morning. I knew that Liam and his dad arrived at school earlier than most, so I made sure to get here even earlier so we could talk, alone.

Every now and then, a kid would pass by and stare at me, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I looked like a complete stalker just standing next to his locker and waiting for him. I cursed and moved down a few lockers to my own. I opened it and pretended to move some of the stuff around, peeking over my shoulder every so often to see if Liam was coming.

Finally, after was seemed like hours of me standing in front of my locker looking like an idiot, I saw Liam walking up the stairs. I could not help the smile that came to my lips at the sight of him. I quickly shut my locker and turned towards him.

He reached the top of the stairs and our eyes met; a smile of his own taking over his face. He started towards me, and that is when I noticed the three figures that were following closely behind him.

I quickly scanned over the three guys behind him. The one on the left was big and had a stern look on his face. The other two were obviously twins and had matching grins on their faces. Liam mentioned that he had friends visiting, but I did not realize that they would be coming to school with him. I was not sure how I felt about three good looking guys staying with him.

I inwardly berated myself at the spike of jealousy. Liam and I were not even together; there was no reason for me to feel jealous. But, that did not make the feeling go away.

Liam stopped in front of me and the strangers did the same, staying a few steps behind Liam.

“Hi,” he greeted lightly.

“Hi,” I replied softly, my eyes still darting between him and the guys behind him. He must have taken notice, because he suddenly cleared his throat and started introducing them.

“Will,” he started, moving to stand by my side. “This is Ryland, James, and Jordan. Guys, this is my…uh, this is Will.”

I felt a smile cross my lips when I registered his fumble. Was he going to introduce me as his boyfriend? While I contemplated this, I faintly heard what I assume were greetings from the guys, but my mind was too focused on what Liam was going to say, and the lack of distance between us.

A nudge at my side pushed me out of my head I looked to see everyone staring at me. I felt ridiculous, but I managed to mumble a hello to the strangers. Liam then began to explain to me that they would be starting school here and that they would be staying with him and his dad.

The jealousy started to rise up again, but I pushed it back down. I just nodded along to what Liam said and gave him a smile.

“I was going to show the guys to their lockers and then to their homerooms,” Liam told me. “Do you want to come with?”

“Sure,” I replied, grateful for any excuse to spend more time with him.

He smiled and turned around, leading us further down the hall. Liam led us to the end of the hall and gestured to two lockers right next to each other.

“These are your lockers. You can get your books in each class and then bring them back here,” he explained.

“You and I are sharing a locker, right Ryland?” Jordan asked with a cheesy smile on his face.

Ryland just raised an eyebrow at Jordan, not saying anything. James rolled his eyes and elbowed Jordan. “You and I are sharing a locker you idiot,” he chided.

Jordan feigned a look of hurt and Liam and I laughed. It was the first time I had heard him laugh, and I loved it.

Soon, we were walking down the halls and Liam was pointing out classrooms. I walked next to Liam and the guys were a few steps behind us. Every now and again, Liam would brush up against me, or our hands touch, and each time it was like my stomach flipped. In the back of my mind, I knew I had never felt like this with any other guy, and it scared me, but I refused to let it show.

After we finally led James to his homeroom, having already parted with Ryland and Jordan, Liam and I walked towards our own. It was almost time for the first bell to ring, and the halls had started to fill up. We were walking even closer than before, Liam slightly behind me, and I could feel him pressed against my side. His hands were in his pockets, but I silently wished he would wrap one around my waist.

When we reached our classroom, I started to head inside, but Liam grabbed my arm, stopping me. I turned around and gave him a questioning look, but he only answered by pulling me away from the doorway and closer to the wall.

He gently pushed me against the wall and inched closer to me, his hand still on my arm. His breath mingled with mine, and I stood there frozen. I was sure everyone was staring at us as they passed by, but I did not care. My eyes were glued to his, and it was like staring into the sky.

My eyes slowly drifted from his eyes down to his lips as he began to speak, his voice husky.

“I wanted to apologize for the other night,” he whispered. “I hate that things had to end so early.”

It took me a few moments to find my voice, but I managed to mumble a few words. “It’s alright.”

“No. It’s not,” he replied sternly. “I don’t want you to get the idea that all I want is sex.”

The thought had actually crossed my mind a few times, but I kept that to myself.

“I…I really like you Will,” he continued, our noses now touching.

I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks, and in other places, and part of me wanted to pick up where we left of Friday night, right in the middle of the hallway, no fucks given, but I restrained myself and let him continue.

“I want to take you out on a real date.”

I was surprised at first, but then I was elated. He was going to take me on a real date. This could actually be something real.

“Okay,” is all I managed. I inwardly kicked myself. Why am I such a fucking idiot?

Liam just smiled and before I had the chance to add to my reply, his lips were against mine and we were in an intense make out session.

He had one hand on my cheek and the other on my hip as our tongues fought for dominance. My hands moved up and down his body and eventually slipped underneath his shirt. We were lost in the moment and did not stop until the bell for class rang.

Liam broke the kiss and took a step back, grinning. I felt a sense of loss when the connection was broken, but I returned his grin. I gave him a little push and then quickly slipped into the classroom before he could say anything.

Before I sat in my seat, I noticed Alessa sitting in the back next to Dylan with a knowing smirk on her face. It was then that I realized that everyone in here and who knows how many others saw our make out session. I quickly turned around and took my seat. Worry started to creep into my head. How are people going to react? What if they do something horrible to Liam?

***

The rest of my morning classes went by fairly quickly, but I had noticed some people giving me weird looks. I knew it had to do with the scene earlier this morning, so I just blocked them out. I made my way to the cafeteria, and after I got my food, I sat down at the table with Alessa and Dylan.

A few seconds after I sat down, Liam sat down next to me. I gave him a smile and then noticed Ryland sitting next to him. A few moments later, James had sat down next to Alessa and Jordan next to him. Alessa and Dylan had seemed surprised when they sat down with us, but that quickly went away after Liam introduced them and we all started talking.

I noticed that Alessa and James seemed to really hit it off, so I nudged Liam and gestured towards the two of them. He looked over at them and let out a small laugh. He then turned back to me and winked. I raised an eyebrow, but he just smiled and shook his head. I had no idea what he meant, but I just shrugged my shoulders and went along with it.

Lunch eventually ended and I slowly but surely made it through the rest of my classes, a few of which I had with one or more of the three stooges. I received a weird or sometimes hateful look from people every now and again, but I just ignored them.

When it was finally time for English, which meant seeing Liam again, I had forgotten about all the looks. I walked towards the classroom with James by my side. We had had the previous class together, but I thought it was a little strange that he was clinging to me when we barely knew each other.

He was telling me a story about his brother, when out of nowhere; some random guy shoved me up against a locker. He did not say anything; he just held me against the locker for a few seconds and then started to walk away.

I was about to go after him and give the asshole a piece of my mind, but James beat me to it.  He grabbed the guy by the shoulder and spun him around, slamming him into the row of lockers.

“Don’t fucking touch him,” James growled.

James’ voice was quiet, but the deathly undertone was deafening, so much so that I was almost scared for the guy. Almost. The guy pinned against the lockers started shaking and that is when I figured he had had enough. I slowly walked over to them and placed a hand on James’ shoulder. He turned to look at me and I could have sworn I saw his eyes flash yellow.

“James, uh, you can let him go,” I told him.

He looked at me and then turned back to the jerk he was holding, finally letting him go after a few more seconds. The guy took off almost at a run and James turned back to me.

“Uh, thanks,” I said, still a little confused by what I thought I saw.

“No problem,” he replied, acting as if he had not just shoved a guy up against some lockers.

I said goodbye to him and made my way to my English class. Once inside, I took my seat next to Liam.

“What’s up?” he asked.

I was about to tell him what happened, but thought better of it. I was not sure how he would have reacted, and did not think it was that big of a deal. I also probably would have mentioned James’ eyes, and I did not want to sound like a complete lunatic.

“Nothing,” I answered, giving him a reassuring smile.

He smiled back and we continued our conversation until class started. I could not concentrate during the class, and when it was over, I quickly told Liam goodbye and left the room. I walked the few blocks to my house and immediately went up to my room.

I tried to forget about the afternoon, but my mind just kept going back to James’ eyes. Did I really see what I thought I saw, or was I imagining things? By the time I was ready for bed, I was convinced they had turned yellow, and I was already thinking about how I was going to confront him.
