Chapter 2: Liam

I was woken up by an incessant banging noise. I sat up groggily in my bed and rubbed my eyes. I looked over at the window to see that it was still dark out. The banging noise came again, and this time I could hear my dad calling my name from the other side of my door.

I groaned as I got out of bed and walked to the door to open it. I opened the door to see my dad standing in a nice pair of slacks and a button up dress shirt. Someone wanted to look nice on the first day.

“You rang,” I said after opening the door.

He chuckled slightly. “It’s time to get up,” he told me. “I have to be at school early today.”

I sighed. Of course he did. But I had to be up before dawn? Really?

“Alright, alright,” I yawned. “I’ll be down in a bit.”

He left and I closed the door. I went into the bathroom and stripped down, hopping into the shower to let the water wake me up. Thoughts about the day ran through my mind. I was so ready to see real people again.

An hour later and my dad and I pulled into the school parking lot. He shut off the old Chevy pickup truck and I climbed out. I told him I would see him later, and I headed towards the school to find my friends.

I walked up the steps and through the double doors of Wahya high school. The halls were mostly empty as I made my way to my locker. It was too early for most of the kids to actually be here, but I had texted Alessa and Dylan earlier and told them I had to be here early. They both texted my back and told me they would come early too so we could catch up.

I walked up to the second floor and through senior hall. I stopped at the end of the hall and opened my locker, no sign of Alessa or Dylan. Wondering where they were, I started to put my things in my locker.

I had just finished putting my bag in my locker when I caught the scent of Alessa and Dylan. A few seconds later and I could hear them whispering. I smiled a little, and just as Alessa was about to try and scare me, I whipped around and shouted.

She jumped a bit and an angry look crossed her face.

“Damn it, Liam!” She cursed. “How do you always know?”

I rolled my eyes and pulled her into a hug. “I missed you too, Alessa,” I chimed.

She scoffed, but wrapped her arms around me and squeezed. Dylan chuckled beside her and then joined the hug, squeezing Alessa between us. She let out a little squeak and we let go. She sighed in relief and gave me a dirty look.

“You’re still an ass,” she chided.

“You’re still a bitch,” I fired back.

She smiled. “Let’s go to homeroom so we can catch up,” she suggested as she locked arms with me. I nodded and let her drag me to Mr. Ricardo’s history class, Dylan on our heels.

The door to the room was open, but the classroom was empty. Alessa pulled me through the rows of seats and plopped down in the back corner. I sat down in the seat next to her and Dylan took the seat in front of Alessa.

I was always surprised when Dylan sat in one of the chairs and managed not to break it. He was big and muscular, not to mention over six feet tall. That is what you look like when you spend all of your time in the gym in order to kick ass on the football field. His mid-length black hair was starting to fall in his face, covering his bright blue eyes, which meant it was time for a haircut.

Alessa, however, was pretty much the exact opposite of Dylan and almost seemed to be swallowed up by the chair. She was petite, and her long blonde hair curled down past her shoulders. Her jade green eyes were hard not to get lost in. And while Dylan, although big, was a pretty lovable person, Alessa was a firecracker. She did not take shit from anyone, and should was always the first one to stand up and defend someone.

And me, I was somewhere in the middle. I was a few inches shorter than Dylan, standing at about six feet. And while I was muscular, I was leaner, not as big and defined as him.

“So…,” Alessa drawled, staring at me. “What did you do this summer?”

I shrugged. “Nothing new,” I told her. “I just stayed at home mostly with dad.”

Alessa rolled her eyes. “You are so boring!” She exclaimed.

I huffed. “Well, Miss Queen of excitement,” I mocked. “What did you do all summer?”

She smirked at me, and I knew I was in for it. She let loose, talking nonstop about every little thing she did over the summer, from her family vacation, to staying up late thinking about a guy she liked. I looked over at Dylan and he was already tuned out, staring out one of the windows. Eventually, I just tuned her out as well and let my mind wander.

Alessa was sort of right. My summer was pretty boring. I mean, all the wolf stuff is cool, but my dad and I train every summer, over and over again. Sometimes I wished I could spend my summers like a normal teen, hanging out with friends, or going out to parties…

My train of thought was interrupted by the sound of someone entering the room. I looked up towards the doorway and I felt my breath catch in my throat.

Standing in the doorway was a boy I had never seen before. His face was rugged and handsome, with high cheekbones and a strong jaw. His eyes were a dark brown, and his raven black hair was pulled up in a long ponytail.

My eyes went from his face and trailed down his body. He was wearing a black v-neck that gave hints of the muscles underneath. His dark jeans were tight fitting and hugged everything the right way. I took in his scent and closed my eyes. He smelt so damn good.

For some reason I felt a pull when I looked at him. I wanted to get up out of my seat and go over to him. I wanted to talk to him, be near him. His eyes swept across the nearly empty room, and when they landed on me, it felt like my insides melted.

His eyes stayed locked on mine for what seemed like forever, and a small smile crossed his lips. I felt my face start to redden and I quickly looked away. When I finally looked back, he had taken a seat near the door.

I felt a nudge on my shoulder and looked over to see Alessa with a knowing look on her face.

“He’s really hot,” she whispered so only we could hear. “And did you see him smile at you?” Her voice was starting to rise.

“Shh!” I hushed her as my face started to heat up again. I looked from Alessa to Dylan and he raised an eyebrow at me, a stupid smile on his face.

“Are you going to talk to him?” He asked me.

I shook my head. I wanted to go up to him so badly, but now was not the time. I needed to get a hold of myself.

Alessa and Dylan kept the conversation going, and I chimed in every now and then, buy my attention was on the boy up front and it was like that for the rest of the day. I talked to my friends and some other people as I went from class to class, but the boy was always at the back of my mind. Sadly, I had not had any other classes with him, and I did not see him at lunch.

I was trying to figure out how I was going to talk to him when I walked into my last class of the day…and there he was. I was totally caught off guard and stopped in the doorway, staring at the boy. Thankfully, he was looking down at the textbook on his desk.

I was brought out of my stupor when I heard someone call my name. I took my eyes off of the mystery boy to see Alessa and Dylan…sitting right behind him. Alessa had a wicked smile on her face and that is when I noticed the only open seat was right next to the boy.

Shit.

I slowly made my way to the empty seat and sat down. I turned my head slightly to the side to get a look at the new boy and saw him looking at me, that small smile back on his face. I gave him a small smile and then quickly turned my head back to the front, just as my dad walked through the door.

I cursed on the inside. How was I supposed to get to know this guy, or get him to like me, if my dad was constantly in the room? Ugh.

I must have groaned out loud because my dad looked from the board to me and raised his eyebrows. I shook my head and he went back to the board, writing his name at the top. The bell rang and everyone in the room grew quiet. My dad turned to face the class and greeted us.

“Good afternoon, everyone,” he greeted. “My name is Mr. Daines, and this is English IV. Now, before we begin, we have a new student with us. William Summers.”

I looked over at the boy. William Summers. I liked it.

“Just Will is fine,” he told my dad.

His voice was soft, but firm. Deep. I imagined what it would be like to have him whisper in my ear, to hear him moan… I felt a tightening in my pants and I immediately pushed all those thoughts away. The middle of class was not the time for this.

“Well, Will, it’s nice to have you with us,” I faintly heard my dad say.

The rest of class went by painfully slow, and I tried my best to keep thoughts of Will out of my head. But it was not easy. When the bell finally rang, I said a quick goodbye to Alessa and Dylan immediately made my way to my dad’s truck.

I sat in the truck for a good twenty minutes before my dad came out of the school. He climbed in the truck and started it, but he did not say anything. I knew he could sense something was going on, and I was just waiting for him to bring it up.

We were halfway home before my dad finally said something.

“So…,” he drawled. “What was with you in class today?”

I shifted uncomfortably. “What are you talking about?” I asked innocently.

“Oh please,” my dad scoffed. “I could smell the desire practically dripping off of you.”

I could feel my face redden, but I did not say anything.

“Was it the new guy?” Dad asked.

“Dad,” I whined. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

He chuckled. “I talked to him for a bit after class. He seems like a good kid. Did you know that he is Native American? A lot of Native American tribes have great respect of wolves, you know.”

“Ugh,” I groaned and leaned my head against the window.

The rest of the drive home was full of my dad asking embarrassing questions, and me groaning and refusing to answer. But, I did allow a small smile on my lips. At least my dad was understanding and did not care that I was gay.
