I sat in stunned silence for a moment. Cy wiped his tears away and sighed. “God, Ethan, say something.”
I wrapped my arms around Cy and said, “You don’t have to tell me about the Hartford Police Department, I know how bad they are firsthand.
Cy furrowed his brow, “What do you mean?”
I took a deep breath and told Cy the whole story of how I ended up in Springfield with Eli.
He looked at me wide-eyed and said, “So, your friend killed himself and the cops hid his statement?”
I nodded, “That’s pretty much what happened and I was too broke and clueless to get a real lawyer. The only good thing to come out of it was that I met Eli.”
Cy sighed, “It’s my fault that the only person in the world that truly cares about me is now dead.”
I said, “Don’t say that Cy. It is not your fault, Eli’s instincts kicked in, he would have tried to save anyone that was standing under that hoist. You know that.”
Cy took another deep breath, “I guess so, but I still feel guilty.”
I was thinking about Eli going to prison to protect Cy. Would I have done that for Danny? I know I would take a bullet for him or give him every penny that I had. I think Eli was just doing what he thought was best for his little brother.
I took his hand, “You have no reason to feel guilty. The best way to honor Eli is to live a good life.”
He chuckled, “God, you two are so much alike. He used to tell me that all the time. It’s no wonder you became such good friends.”
I smiled, “I have been thinking.”
He asked, “About what?”
‘Well, the place I was working at just closed down and I don’t have a job. I kind of like this town and at least one of its residents. I think I might want to move here.”
Cy shook his head, “You should probably rethink that. This town ain’t that great and that resident might turn out to be a big loser.”
I kissed his cheek, “I think they both deserve a chance. I think it might be worth the risk.”
Cy stood up and started to get dressed. As I pulled my shorts on he asked what I did for a job. After he was dressed he walked toward the door, he turned and said, “I think you would be better off staying away from this town and this resident that you kind of like. But if you decide to be foolish, Tom Conway owns a construction company, his office is on Industrial Road, and he is always looking for help. I guess he may need someone to draw house plans too.”
He pulled the door shut as he walked away. I sat on the bed pondering what he just said. He told me not to move here, but he gave me a lead on a job. Once again, his words did not match his actions. I definitely wanted to see Cy again, I know I felt something pulling me to get closer to him.
It was now after 4am and I tried to get back to sleep. I did doze off and finally woke up a little bit after 8am. I took a shower and drove to the diner that I had been eating at for a quick breakfast. I asked the nice waitress that I had started to become friends with where Industrial Road was. She gave me directions after I told her I was thinking of moving to town and looking for a job.
She smiled, “Well, Tom Conway is a good businessman. He is a little a gruff on the outside, but I know he treats his employees well. I have never heard any of them say anything bad about him.”
I paid my check and thanked her and followed the directions she had given me. Within a block of turning on to Industrial Road, I saw the big ‘Conway Construction, LLC’ sign. I parked my truck and walked into the door under the smaller sign that read ‘Office’.
As I walked into the office, I saw two men talking and pointing at a house plan that hung on the wall. The bigger, older man didn’t even look at me, he said over his shoulder, “I’ll be with you in a minute.”
I stood there quietly while they continued their conversation. The younger man said, “The entry is too cramped and there is not enough headroom for the steps.”
The big man shook his head, “Johnson always does this to me. I swear to God that son of a bitch has never been on a damn job site. The customer was adamant about wanting that coat closet, we can’t just leave it out.”
The other man nodded, “I know, but they aren’t going to like ducking every time they go in their basement. Not to mention the building inspector, there is no way he will let it go unless it has at least 6’8” of headroom.”
I could see what they were talking about. It was the same issue we ran into when we were building the first house after I got out of Springfield. I stepped forward, “Excuse me, but we had the same problem on a house I helped built. We rotated the closet 90 degrees and built it into the garage, by the look of your plan, your garage is oversized and your customer would not even miss the few square feet in there.”
The two men looked at me and then back to the plan. The younger man said, “We were putting cabinets along that wall in the garage, we can just use one less cabinet and we will have plenty of room.”
The large man turned back to me and asked, “Who the hell are you?”
I said, “I’m sorry sir, I’m Ethan Andrews. I just stopped by because I am moving to town and I am looking for a job.”
The big man said, “I’m Tom Conway, this is Todd Carter, my leadman. So, you have built houses before?”
I nodded, “Yes sir. I worked for Bob Coleman back in Hartford. I also have my drafting certificate, and I have worked for Phil Sorenson for the last year.”
Tom eyed me up and down as he pulled out his phone and began to scroll. He pushed a button and held the phone to his ear.
“Bob, this is Tom Conway, how the hell are you?”
Tom laughed, “The same here. Hey, the reason I called, I have a kid in my office that says he worked for you.” He paused and looked at me, “What did you say your name was?”
I said, “Ethan Andrews.”
He repeated my name to Bob and listened for a few minutes. He said, “Really? Yeah, he was already looking at one of my plans. Yep, it seems like it. Wait, what?”
Tom was looking at me again, I’m not sure what Bob was telling him. He laughed, “Yeah, I will. Hey, tell Gloria hi for me and if you ever find yourself in Edgewater, stop by and say hi. Remember, it’s your turn to buy the beer.” He laughed again as he ended the call.
He shoved the phone back in his pocket and turned to me, “A year and a half in the pokey, huh?”
I sighed, “Yes sir, but I can explain.”
He laughed, “No need, Bob already did. So, what kind of job are you looking for?”
I said, “I would really like to keep drafting, I was going to ask who you used to see if they were hiring. If not, I am not opposed to swinging a hammer again.”
Tom shook his head, “I use Lyle Johnson, but to be honest he sucks donkey dick. He works for a modular house builder in the next town over, and he does my drawings and a few other’s plans on the side. I’ve been looking for someone new for a while.”
I nodded, “Yes sir, I understand. I appreciate your time; I’ll see if there is anyone else nearby that needs a draftsman.”
Tom said, “Hold on, Johnson is the only one close by. Have you ever thought about starting your own office?”
I sighed, “Yes sir, but it will take a lot of money to get things going, that is if I can find enough customers.”
He asked, “How much will it take to get set up?”
I pulled out my laptop; I had put all my numbers on a spreadsheet the night before. I had the equipment listed, the software subscription and everything else I could think of. I showed him the numbers and said, “I haven’t had a chance to get the costs for insurance and then the cost of renting an office.”
Tom looked at my numbers and then at Todd, he said, “The kid came prepared.”
Todd nodded and Tom asked, “Do you have any money?”
I sighed, “I have some, but I don’t think it is enough to get started and to live on until things get going. That is if I can find any customers.”
Tom nodded, “Yeah, it’s a lot, but anything worthwhile comes with some risk. No balls, no babies."
I chuckled, if Tom only knew that my balls would probably never create a baby. I said, “Yes sir.”
I took a deep breath and decided to use my balls, I asked, “Do you want to be my first customer?”
Tom grinned, “That’s what I wanted to hear kid. You’ll be surrounded by babies before you know it. Hell yeah, I’ll be your first customer. I’ll even do you one better. I’ll loan you the money to buy that equipment, and you will draw all my plans at a reduced price until you have me paid back. I know every contractor in this town and if you draw my first set of plans to my satisfaction, I’ll tell them about you.”
My heart skipped a beat, “Really? You would be willing to do that?”
He nodded, “Yep, Bob said some good things about you, and I like to help a young, ambitious kid get started. Hell, there are at least five other construction companies in this town that have been started by former employees of mine. I helped them too. There is room for all of us here.”
Todd said, “I’m going to head back to the job site, we’ll go ahead and move that closet.”
Tom said, “Yeah, once you get it all measured out, let me know if it works.”
Tom and I spent the next two hours getting our agreement all ironed out. He even said he would clear out a corner of the office for me to set up in until I got a few more clients and could afford an office of my own.
I walked out of the office with a check big enough to get my computer, printer and software ordered. I went to the bank and opened a new account for Andrews Drafting. I went back to my motel room and ordered the equipment; it will be delivered next week. I also called the lawyer and accountant that Tom had suggested, I was going to meet with them tomorrow. The lawyer was going to draw up our agreement and help me set up an LLC. The accountant would advise me the best way to structure things to keep my tax liabilities as low as I could.
As I wrapped things up, I checked the time; It was a little after 5pm. Cy would be working and I wanted to tell somebody my good news. I thought about calling mom and dad, but I really wanted to tell them the news in person. Besides, a beer really sounded good right now. I got in my truck and headed to The Corner Bar.
As I walked in, I noticed that the usual gang of guys was not at the far table. Instead, Cy was talking to a man that I had not seen before. They turned to look as soon as I walked in.
The man nodded at Cy, “I’ve got my eye on you O’Reilly, just watch your step.”
The man turned to walk out, that was when I noticed the badge and weapon clipped to his belt. He wasn’t wearing a standard police uniform but had on a dark blue polo shirt with the words, “Edgewater Police Department” embroidered on the left side of the chest. He stared at me as he walked past me and out the door.
Cy let out a deep breath as he walked toward me, “Are you still in town?”
I nodded, “Yes, I decided to start my own business, and I wanted to tell you that I am moving here.”
He rolled his eyes, “It’s your life, do whatever you want.”
I was a little disappointed, I was hoping for a little different reaction from Cy.
I sighed, “Thanks for being happy for me.”
He said, “I am happy for you getting a job Ethan, but I hope you aren’t moving here just because you promised Eli that you would look out for me.”
I said, “Well, from the thugs I saw you talking to the last two times I was here and now the cop telling you that he is watching you, I think you might need looking after.”
Cy glared at me, “Ethan, I know what the hell I am doing. Move to town if you want but just leave me the hell alone.”
I stood and turned to leave, over my shoulder I said, “Fine.”
I stopped and grabbed a six-pack then went back to my room. I tried to work on the plan for my new business, but all that I could think about was Cy. I thought back to dad asking me if my attraction to Cy was because I missed Eli. I think that may have been the case in the beginning, but after what we did last night, I knew I had different feelings for Cy.
Eli was there for me when I needed help, and he felt more like a big brother looking out for me. Yes, we did share some intimate moments, but I think that was just out of convenience. Eli had no one else to be with, and I was willing to help him out. I guess I felt I owed him for all that he did for me.
When I was with Cy, it was a lot different. I know I felt something more than friendship, and up until our last conversation, I thought Cy might feel the same way. I wasn’t able to concentrate on my work any longer. I decided to take a quick shower and go to bed. I finished my shower and wrapped my towel around my waist and sat back against the headboard of the bed. I grabbed the TV remote and started to flip through the channels.
I finally stopped channel surfing and watched TV. The late night with Cy and all the excitement of the day overcame me and drifted off to sleep, the TV still playing.
Before long, I started to dream that I was getting the best blow job of my life. My eyes flew open when I realized it wasn’t a dream. I looked down to see Cy looking up at me with my cock in his mouth. He grinned at me and said, “You have to remember to lock your door from now on.”
I panted, “Why? Especially if this is what happens if I don’t.”
He rolled his eyes and went back to work on my pole. God, he knew how to suck like the best of them. I grabbed his head and began to fuck his face. I felt that old familiar tingling starting in my nuts and pushed him away, I didn’t want this to be over just yet, I needed to taste him.
I quickly pulled his clothes off and we fell back onto the bed to feast on each other’s meat. I rolled my tongue under his foreskin as I savored his precum. How the hell did he taste so good and why was I letting this happen. A few hours ago, he was telling me to leave him alone, and now he is sucking my cock. Fuck, he was really messing with my head.
I forgot about all that when Cy started to play with my nuts and push a finger into my hole. I began to do the same thing for him. Cy moaned as soon as my finger was buried to the first knuckle and he rolled onto his back and pulled his legs up in the air. I had been wanting to lick that hole since the first day I laid my eyes on Cy.
His moans increased as my tongue poked and prodded that sweet pucker. He pulled his legs further in the air and spread them as far as he could. I moved up so that we could kiss as I rubbed my leaking cock up and down his crack, leaving precum all over his pucker.
Cy reached down and took my cock in his hand and stopped at his entrance, his eyes pleading with me to push in. I locked my lips on his again and was soon balls deep into that sweet, tight, warm hole. Cy grabbed my ass so tight that I am sure he left his handprints. He pushed and pulled to set the pace as our tongues continued to dance.
I was so happy that Cy was willing to bottom, I mean, I liked it when he topped me last time, but it was nice to take turns. I pushed in as far as I could go in search of his sweet spot. Cy groaned as his eyes rolled back in his head. I think I found it. I started to hammer it with every stroke.
My effort was soon rewarded when Cy gasped, “Holy shit.” I felt the warmth of his love juices flowing between our heaving stomachs and his ass muscles contracting around my cock. I picked up my pace and started to pound him as hard as I could. Cy’s grip on my ass only tightened as I gave one final push and began to blast his guts with a huge load of my baby makers. For some reason, Tom’s ‘no balls, no babies’ comment ran through my brain. I had all that I could do not to laugh.
Cy and I were still kissing as the last drop of cum dribbled from my spent cock. He looked me in the eyes and said, “That was incredible.”
I panted, “Yeah, it was.”
I rolled to his side, and we both tried to catch our breath. I suddenly remembered the conversation that we had earlier. I asked, “Why are you here?”
Cy looked at me, “What do you mean?”
I sighed, “A few hours ago, you told me to leave you alone. Now you show up at my door and start to suck my dick.”
Cy said, “I’m sorry, I guess I should have phrased that better. I do want to see you, but I think it would be best if you don’t come to the bar when I am working.”
I shook my head, “What the hell is going on Cy?”
He said, “Please, just trust me. I know what I am doing and I don’t want you involved.”
I sat up and turned away, “Jesus Christ Cy, I think I have feelings for you, and I want to trust you, but it just seems like you are keeping something from me. Why can’t you tell me what is going on? Maybe I can help.”
He sat up, “No, you cannot help me. This is something I have to do on my own. I promise you can trust me. And for the record, I know that I have feelings for you too.”
Cy telling me that he had feelings for me hit me like a brick. No one has ever told me that before, not even Aaron. I sighed, “I just feel helpless and I don’t want you to do something that you will regret.”
He put his arm around my shoulder and gave me a slight smile, “I am not doing anything that I will regret, I just need you to trust me. I want to see where things go with us, I really am glad that you have decided to move to Edgewater.”
He kissed my cheek, I said, “Will you spend the night with me?”
Cy grinned, “Yes, I would like that very much.”
We cleaned up and crawled under the covers. I still have no idea of what is going on, but I did trust Cy and being in his arms made me feel safe and loved.
We woke up the next morning still holding each other. I smiled as Cy kissed the back of my neck, his morning wood pressed tight against my ass. I reached back and gave it a couple of strokes and before we had even said good morning, we were sucking each other’s cock and having cum for breakfast.
Cy kissed me and crawled out of bed, “I need to get going. What are your plans for the day?”
I said, “I have a meeting with a lawyer and an accountant to set up my new business. Then I will probably drive back home to tell my parents and get ready to move here.”
He smiled, “I’m sorry I wasn’t happier for you yesterday, but I can see how excited you are about your business. I really am happy for you and am so glad you are moving to Edgewater.”
I smiled, “Thanks.”
He gave me another kiss, “When will you be back in town?”
I shrugged, “I’m not sure. The computer I ordered will be here on Wednesday or Thursday next week, I want to be back before that.”
Cy saw my phone sitting on the nightstand. He picked it up to type in his number, he handed it back to me and said, “Call or text when you get back…or before if you want to.”
I nodded, “Okay, I will.”
After Cy walked out, I let out a deep breath. Damn it, he wants to see me, and he says he cares for me, but what the hell is he up to. I just hope he isn’t involved in something that will take him away from me.
I checked the time; I needed to get ready for my meeting with my accountant. I dressed and drove to Scott Harper’s office. We shook hands and then sat at his desk, and I explained the agreement between me and Tom Conway.
He smiled, “Tom is a good man, and he will treat you fair.”
For the next hour and a half, he explained everything that I would need to do to get my business started.
He said, “You will need to get an accounting software package. This is the one that I recommend, it’s easy to use and you can easily send me files in an email so that I can help you with all the tax reports you will need to file.”
I was starting to become a little overwhelmed, Scott noticed and smiled, “Relax Ethan, I will help you so that you do everything right. I can file all those reports for you until you are comfortable enough to do it yourself. Tom is right, you would be wise to set up an LLC. You won’t be big enough to form a corporation, unless you start to open branches in every state.”
I chuckled, “Let’s just get one office open first.”
He laughed, “The LLC gives you mostly the same benefits of a corporation but is much cheaper to set up. You will also need to set up a sales tax account with the state. I can help you file those reports too. Basically, you just collect sales tax on your invoices, and then you report your sales to the state and give them the tax that you collected.”
I nodded as I wrote all of this down and he gave me all the web sites that I could accomplish all these new tasks. I think I had figured things out by the time that I walked out of his office to head to my meeting with the lawyer.
Tom Conway met me there and we told Walt McCoy about our agreement. He made a couple of suggestions that Tom and I agreed with and told us that he would have the contract written up by the time I returned to Edgewater next week.
Tom left after we had that finished and I stayed to talk to Walt about setting up my LLC and everything else that I would need a lawyer for. Again, he promised to have everything ready for me to sign next week.
I left his office feeling both overwhelmed and excited at the same time. I still had a lot to do, but this was really happening. I went back to the motel to pack my things to go home. I was hoping mom and dad would be as excited for me as I am.
I stopped at the motel office to reserve a room for next week and inquired about renting the room on a long-term basis. The lady told me that they had weekly rates that were cheaper than renting by the day. I still had to find someplace to live so I reserved a room for the next two weeks.
I was throwing my bag in my truck when a black SUV pulled in behind me. I saw the lights on the dash and the Edgewater Police decal on the door. The same police officer that I saw talking to Cy walked up to me.
He said, “Ethan Andrews?”
I nodded, “Yes sir.”
He said, “I’m Troy Barker with the Edgewater Police department, I heard that you are going to be Edgewater’s newest resident.”
I sighed, “Yes, is that going to be a problem?”
He raised an eyebrow, “I have been doing some checking, and I just wanted to tell you that you need to behave once you get moved to town. It would be wise to not hang around with people like Cyrus O’Reilly.”
I rolled my eyes, “Just what has Cyrus done?”
He said, “Nothing, yet. But I’m sure he and his gang will be trying something soon. I also know that you have not always been… shall we say, law abiding.”
I shook my head, “I was cleared of all those charges, I have never broken the law.”
He said, “You were cleared on a technicality, every criminal I know tells me they are innocent. I’m telling you to stay out of trouble, because I will certainly be watching you.”
