This story is not going in the direction I had originally intended.  The second chapter is lacking something; hopefully, this chapter is better.  As always, I love reading your comments.

I used all my effort to sit up in bed. I reached for the nurse call button and knocked the control over the side. I could see the glint of the knife as Greg approached. “Why are you doing this?” I shouted. I tried to lower the guard that kept me from falling out of bed and onto the floor, but I couldn’t reach it. ‘Get DNA this time,’ I thought.

“Did you come back for a second fuck?” What am I saying?

He just grinned wider. He pressed the blade against my belly.

“You can be the top this time if you want.”

He pushed the blade into me. I felt it this time. I tried to push him away, to scratch him--DNA under my nails, but my arms were like rubber.

His face drew close to mine. His hot breath smelled like rotting chicken. He moved the blade to my throat and pushed. I knew that my blood was pumping down my neck.

With my last words, I shouted, “Kyle, I love you.”

“Wake up, dammit, wake up!”

I opened my eyes, and Kyle was standing over me. I was gasping for air. How had I not died this time? I reached down to my belly; I needed to push my intestines back in. But they were fine.

“What happened?”

“I think it’s called a nightmare. You were thrashing about and shouting. You woke me up. I guess I fell asleep in the chair.”

“But I saw him. He came back for me. He’d stabbed me and was going to slit my throat.” I reached up to my throat. I froze. In my mind, I could see Greg’s face, his straight, bright white teeth, and a green emerald stud earring in his left ear. I looked up at Kyle.

“You remember something?”

“He wears an earring. I don’t remember it from the truck, but in the dream, it’s green. It’s one of those stud earrings with a round cut emerald. I only remember one in his left ear, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t wearing one in the right.”

Detective Mitchell walked into my room. “What’s the ruckus?”

Kyle turned and his face got immediately red. “He’s remembered something.”

The detective was very stoic. “You two look a little too cozy there, Murphy.”

“Sorry, ma’am.”

She continued. “Here’s the deal. I was here on another case when the uncover stationed here notified me that there was screaming in your room. She knew you were in here Murphy, so she didn’t want to blow cover to assist unless you called for help. Now, the other night, I sensed something between you two. Do you know each other from before this?”

I shook my head.

Kyle answered, “No, ma’am.”

“So tonight, I find you in here at a rather late hour. You want to explain?”

“Of course. Mr. Miller was upset earlier about reports saying he was involved in a drug deal. After my regular duty, I came by to check on him and to see whether he remembered anything else. I was sitting in the chair and I fell asleep. I woke up when he started moving around from the nightmare.”

“You said he had additional information?”

“Yes, an earring in the left ear with a round, green stone,” Kyle said with such confidence and professionalism.

“Is that everything?” she asked.

I felt compelled to say something. “No, that isn’t everything.”

She stepped closer.

“I’m not sure whether you two are partners.”

“We are on this case,” she affirmed.

“Then he would have told you this in private, but I am attracted to Officer Murphy. I’ve told him so. He has remained professional in all our interactions.”

She looked over at Kyle. He remained emotionless and silent.

“What did he say to you after you disclosed your feelings?”

“He told me he could not discuss anything of a personal nature until after the case was concluded. I had not planned to tell him because I didn’t want to cause any trouble. It just came out while I was babbling.”

She turned to Kyle. “This won’t affect your performance with this, will it?”

“No, ma’am, it won’t.”

She looked at him directly in his eyes. “You’re attracted to him as well.” It was a statement, not a question. “I had assumed you were straight. Not that it matters, but I expect you to let me know if at any time you find that this.. ‘discovery’ interferes with your ability to fulfill your duties.”

“Of course,” he nodded.

“I want you to go home and get some sleep. Uncover is here to make sure he’s protected.”

“Thank you, ma’am.” Kyle turned to me and nodded. I smiled and nodded back.

“Mr. Miller, what exactly did the perpetrator take from you?”

I looked back at the detective. “Besides my clothes, nothing. My brother had my license. I didn’t need any keys. There were two condoms in my shirt pocket and two small packets of lube. I used one of each, so the others were still there. So was the packaging and the used condom.

“I assume something was missing from the dead man.”

She raised her eyebrow.

“I know you can’t tell me, but if something were missing from him, you’d want to know whether he took something from me. My belt buckle is the only thing that will be…” I bit my lower lip. “He has my belt buckle.”

“Describe it for me.”

“It’s just a ‘Don’t Mess with Texas’ buckle. The only thing special about it is that my grandfather bought it for me on a trip to the Alamo. He’d seen me looking at it, but I didn’t have enough money. He got it without my knowing, and when we were getting ready to take pictures in front of the mission building, he gave it to me.” I started to get misty-eyed.

“I’m going to ask Murphy to bring his laptop tomorrow so you can do a search and find a picture of one just like it.”

“OK.”

The next morning, I received a text.

Text from Kyle: Are you free this morning to look for a picture of the buckle?

Text to Kyle: Rehab is after lunch. I’m free until then.

Text from Kyle: On my way.

When Kyle arrived, I wasn’t sure whether to talk to him about what I had disclosed to Detective Mitchell that night before.

“How are you feeling this morning?” I asked him. “Not sore from the chair, I hope.”

“No. Knowing someone was keeping you safe let me fall asleep right away.”

“I hope you’re ok with what I said to the Detective.”

“About how you find me irresistibly attractive?”

“Yeah, there’s that.”

“Was there more?” His tone was serious.

“Well, after you left, I told her about what she actually walked in on.”

His face went emotionless.

“Are you OK?” I asked him.

“I’m waiting for the punchline.”

“So, you know I’m joking.”

He looked at me with that ‘I’m a cop; I can read you; you’ll have a hard time hoodwinking me.’ “Of course.”

“Well, I guess when we’re living together, I won’t be able to pull your leg on anything. We’ll just have to spend all our time snuggling, cuddling, and making love.”

He sighed. “I guess so. By the way, what’s the difference between snuggling and cuddling?”

“I guess the biggest difference is the first syllable. Have you got those pictures pulled up?”

“Yeah, here they are.” He showed me a page of buckles.

“It was that one; the oval one with the armadillo biting the snake. It was brass colored just like that.”

“That’s what I need.” He typed a bit and then closed the laptop. “I need to go.”

“I know. I wish you could stay longer, but I understand.”

“I’ll stop by after work.” Then he leaned in and whispered. “When I’m in the room with you, all I can think about is having your dick in me or me having mine in you.” He stood back up. “I need to concentrate on my work.”

“I understand.” I felt my dick get hard just thinking about what he had said.

He turned and left. As he got to the door, he turned and smiled. I ate my lunch and went to rehab hell. My physician came by and told me that I was at a point where I could go home, and as long as I did my exercises there, I would only have to come back one a week. I promised I would. He told me he would sign the paperwork. I would be released by late afternoon.

I texted Kyle and my brother to let them know. I figured my brother would come and take me home. Kyle thought he should do it, Detective Mitchell said another cop should do it. So I waited for a plainclothesman to come to get me. The ride home was uneventful.

There was a little party waiting for me when I got there. Blueberry pie and ice cream for everyone. The policeman didn’t want to stay. My brother had talked to Detective Mitchell and arranged for the pole lights around the main house and all the porch lights to remain on all evening. The men would take turns watching the house. I felt safe.

After the party, I went to turn in. Pete and Joe, the ranch hands my brother had overheard talking about our sexcapades, came up to me and offered to sleep with me. Pete said he knew I might not be up to fucking him, but he’d be willing to blow me with no reciprocation. I thanked them both and went to bed alone.

It wasn’t long before I imagined Kyle coming into my room. His uniform was clean and pressed. He was freshly shaven. I could almost smell the scent of his body wash mixed with his scent. I reached down to fondle one of my balls as I saw him slowly strip for me. He removed his equipment belt before tugging his shirt loose from his pants. He rubbed his crotch and I rubbed mine. He unbuttoned each button of his shirt slowly, deliberately. I continued to rub my crotch. He removed his shirt to reveal a white sleeveless t-shirt beneath. A moderately hairy chest was revealed at the neckline. I wanted to reach up and help him pull off the T, but both hands were now at my crotch. My left hand pushed under the elastic waistband of my underwear.

Kyle pulled the t-shirt off. His hair was askew, but he shook his head and each hair fell back in place. He leaned forward and touched his lips to mine. My lips parted and he ran his tongue from my chin to my upper lip before pressing our lips together and exploring my mouth. I gasped and squeezed the base of my thickening cock.

He kissed me on the neck and then on the nipples. His mouth covered my cock. I licked my fingers to simulate the feel of his lips. He was able to take all of me in his mouth. With my other hand, I rubbed the opening to my manpussy. I wanted Kyle inside me. I pushed a finger in. I got dizzy, and the room seemed to dim. I shot my load into my underwear with a grunt. ‘Oh, Kyle,’ I thought, ‘how I want you here.’ I grabbed one of my pillows and pulled it to me and pretended it was Kyle.

It was early morning when I heard the shouting. I got out of bed and grabbed a robe from my closet. My underwear was hard and crusty in the front where my ejaculate had dried. I pulled it away from my skin. It was stuck fast in a few places, and my penis hurt when the cloth pulled loose. I made my way to the door.

I heard what sounded like Kyle shouting, “Where is he? Where’s Evan.”

I opened the door and stepped out. The night air was chilly. “I’m right here.”

Pete ran up to Kyle. “He’s right here. We’ve been watching the house.”

Kyle seemed relieved.

“Everything is OK. Thanks, Pete.” I turned to Kyle. “Let’s go inside.” He seemed agitated. He followed me into the house. I closed the door behind us. We stood in the hall, barely inches from one another.

Kyle grabbed me in a bear hug. He held me so tightly that I thought he would break one of my ribs. My nose was next to his ear. I could smell the shampoo he used. My lips were next to his ear lobe. I touched my lips to his ear. I gently breathed into his ear.

He pushed me back. I saw tears well up in his eyes. Then he kissed me hard. When he pulled back for air, he said, “I thought I would find you dead. I thought I’d find everyone here dead.”

I was confused. Did I hear him correctly?

“The officer that brought you here yesterday was found on the road. He’d been stabbed in the belly and his throat was slit. Just like in your dream.”
