When I first saw a picture of Kyle, I wondered whether my sister Cathy had lost her mind. All I could see were his dark eyes and this mop of dark hair.

“He’s so cool,” she told me, “and so smart. His hair looks like he never combs it, but it is clean and soft. I put my hand on it once while watching him play.”

“So how’d your date go?” I asked.

“We haven’t actually dated. I want our friendship to build.”

Her plan was working, according to her. They were becoming great friends. They practiced their chess moves and whatever else people on a chess team do. While she admitted they hadn’t been on an official date, she felt ready to bring him home to meet the family.

So, this Thanksgiving, Kyle Daniels joined our family along with my Uncle Jeremy, his wife Susan, and their two monsters, oh, I mean children, Brad and Martha. My mother turned into a giggly schoolgirl as she told me the plan; she actually used the word cahoots. Kyle would be led to believe that he was in the guest room when, in fact, he would have a cot in my sister’s room. My sister had no intention of letting him sleep on the cot. She had condoms, she was going to lose her virginity (for the third time, I believe) with Kyle. The “last-minute” change, I was told, was for my Uncle and his kids. I’d be “sent” to the little building where I’d been staying.

A quick aside here: I’d built this shed when I was a teenager as a project for my architecture class. My father helped me with the plumbing before he ran off with the neighbor lady. My little twelve by twelve building had a little kitchen, stand-up shower and toilet, a bed, and a couch and TV. It was my little sanctuary, but I wasn’t supposed to say anything about it. In fact, my sister and mother wanted me to be a little upset about losing my room to the children.

I knew my part in this little drama, and on the day before Thanksgiving, my uncle showed up with his brood. The ladies worked on food for the next day. My uncle set up the fryer. The brats played on their phones, and I waited for my sister to arrive from college with Kyle in tow. I was to break the bad news. Best laid plans, right?

About fifteen minutes before my sister is expected, I get a text message.

Cathy: Help. I can’t stand this guy. What was I thinking?

Me: OK. I guess you don’t want him sleeping in your room. Don’t say anything about the cot.

I went into the kitchen to relay the change of plans with my mother. She wanted to know the whats and whys of what had happened, and I let her know that I had no information, but I was willing to let him stay with me. If he needed to bathe, I’d move the cot; otherwise, he could choose between the bed and the couch.

As I waited for her, I began to wonder what he could have done to make her do a one-eighty. I thought I heard a car in the driveway, and I peeked out the window. Sure enough, I could see her on the passenger side of a Prius. My sister was not the type to go after a guy with a Prius. That was more my speed. I wanted to laugh, but I slipped on my sandals and headed out. Had a cold front come through this morning, because it was chillier now than when I got up?

I ran up to my sister and hugged her. “It’s taken care of,” I whispered. Then I turned to the man walking around the front of the car. There was no fucking way he was the same man in the photo she had shown me last summer. This guy was gorgeous. His hair was cut in a modern crew-cut. His skin was flawless. The dark eyes could have been the same, but I would have noticed the cleft in the chin--those always drove me crazy. This guy could have been a GQ model.

He put his hand out for me to shake. “I’m Daniel,” I said.

He smiled. My dick got hard.

“I’m Daniels,” he said. “Kyle Daniels.” He said it like James Bond. I laughed; my sister rolled her eyes. I picked up a little East Texas drawl.

“Let’s grab your bags and go inside,” I said. He headed to the back and opened the hatch. I looked at my sister with a tilt to my head and raised an eyebrow. Kyle handed me her bag. “I’ll put your bag in your room; go say hello to mom and the others.” I turned to Kyle, he had a medium suitcase. I was holding my sister’s luggage. “You know how to pack,” I said.

“I figured we were only staying until Sunday; no need to bring the whole closet.” He smiled. A beautiful smile behind those lips. In fact, his ordinary lips were the only ordinary thing about him. So far.

“How was the drive? I hate the trip to Houston; of course, I never have anyone interesting to talk to.”

“It’s a long one, alright. I’m not sure your sister’s feeling very well. She seemed to get kind of agitated about a half an hour, well, maybe a little longer ago than that.”

“She usually gets agitated with me after about thirty minutes.” I opened the door to the house. “We’re going straight through.” He followed me to the laundry room and out to the back patio.

“Am I sleeping in the dog house?”

“Why? Are you in the dog house?” I asked.

He chuckled a little nervously. I saw my sister and my mother as they came through the sliding glass door from the dining room to the patio.

“I was about to tell Kyle that he’s bunking with me, and it’s not because he’s done anything wrong.”

My mother gave a little nervous laugh. “No, of course not. My brother is here with his family. I wasn’t thinking when Cathy asked if she could bring a friend. I hope it’s OK.”

“Of course, it’s OK,” said Kyle. “Daniel and I are already fast friends.”

I smiled as I glanced down at Kyle’s ass. I wanted to squeeze one of those cheeks.

“No one calls him Daniel,” my mother said.

“Kyle does,” my sister announced in a rather clipped tone. “Just imagine, Kyle. If you married my brother, his name would be Daniel Daniels.” She seemed pissed. “I’ve got to go to the bathroom.” She turned and left.

“She must be tired after the trip,” mumbled my mother. “We’re going to have a light dinner, but if you need a snack, just let Danny know, and if you need to take a nap or anything, he can take care of that as well.” She smiled awkwardly and went back inside.

Kyle turned back and faced me. He gave me an awkward smile as well.

“You’re going to have to tell me what that’s all about, but let’s go inside first.”

“This is the room that you and your dad built? Cathy has told me about it.” We stepped inside. “Wow. This is so fucking cool.” He looked down at his feet. “Sorry. I need to watch my language.”

“It’s alright,” I told him. “I appreciate the sentiment. Why don’t you put your bags on that desk, and tell me what’s got my sister in such a state? Oh, do you need to use the bathroom?”

“No. I’m good,” he replied.

“Come over and sit here next to me,” I directed him to the sofa. “What’s going on?”

“I’d like to say that I don’t know, but she seemed to get pissy when I told her about Roger.”

“I don’t know a Roger; she’s never mentioned him,” I sighed.

“He joined the team at the beginning of September. He isn’t very good, so the two of us don’t practice with him. I told her that he’s been asking me to hang out with him, and last week, he told me that he wanted to ask me out on a date.”

“That made her mad?”

“Not exactly. I told her that I wasn’t interested in dating him, and then I told her that I appreciated her friendship and that I wished some muscular hunk would ask me out.”

“Oh, fuck.”

“What?”

“You came out to her, didn’t you?” I took a deep breath.

“Well, not directly, I guess,” Kyle muttered.

“Had you not noticed how much she likes you?” I asked.

“Yeah. I told her a few months ago that we were best friends and that I really appreciated her and all she did for me.”

“She misread that, Kyle. She invited you here to get you away from school. She planned to sleep with you.”

“But she’s like my sister.”

“I’ll bet she realizes that now. And she knows that you’re gay; that’s why she made that marriage crack.”

“You mean about you and me?”

“Yep.”

“I should go talk to her,” said Kyle.

“Not until she is calm. I don’t even want to text her yet.”

“Maybe I should head back to campus.” He sounded dejected.

“No.” I put my hand on his knee. “You can’t go until the waters are calm again.”

He looked down at my hand. “That’s not going to calm me down.”

I looked into his eyes. Those beautiful dark eyes. Those eyes that told me that I wasn’t alone.

“You haven’t told her, have you, Danny?”

I kept looking into his eyes. I sucked my lower lip into my mouth and chewed on it.

“You haven’t told anyone, have you.”

I shook my head. “My dad knows. He told me that he knew before he ran off.” I felt a tear form, and it began to drop down my cheek. Kyle wiped it away but left his hand there. I covered it with mine. It was the first time a man had ever touched me.

“You know,” I said, “when Cathy first showed me your picture, you looked like a real bum to me. Your hair was frizzy and well, I was surprised by how you looked compared to how she talked about you.”

“The professor in charge of the team told me he wanted me to look nerdier. He said it would intimidate people better.”

“I think you look sexy, really sexy.”

“Me?” He looked away; his cheeks flushed a little. “I think you’re the one who’s handsome and sexy. When I first saw you and we shook hands, I thought, why can’t a guy like that ask me out.”

“Yeah.” I smiled. This guy thinks I’m attractive, and I think he’s attractive. I had a memory flashback to the day I was about to tell Bart Adams that I was attracted to him and to ask him out. As soon as I got out half of my first sentence, he asked me if I hated gay people as much as he did. He said he found them disgusting. Now, I’m with someone like Kyle as I try to figure out what to say to him.

“I know your mom has dinner planned, but do you think we could go out together afterward? Like a date?”

“I’d love it.” I think I smiled the first real smile I had since before my father left. “I need to talk to my sister.”

“Oh. OK. Should I go with you?”

“No. You stay here, or come into the house.”

“I’ll stay here. Can I lay down on the bed?”

“Of course,” I laughed. “You’ll be laying there tonight. Go ahead. I’m going in. I’ll be back in a bit.” I went into the house as I thought about what to say to her. I knocked on the door, and she cracked it open.

“What?”

“I need to talk to you,” I said.

“Has he asked you to, because I do not want to talk to him?”

“This is important.” I took a breath. “And it needs to be in private, not in the hall.”

She opened the door and let me in. Would I say the right thing?

I sat on the edge of her bed, and she sat in the chair at her desk. “You always say that there is a reason for everything.”

“There couldn’t possibly be a reason for this humiliation,” she replied.

“Actually, there is.” I looked down at my hands. “I like him.”

“He is likable. He’s a nice guy. He’ll make a great friend. Believe me, I know. But I didn’t go through this so you could have a best friend.” She moved next to me. “It’s not his fault, I know. But I’m mad at myself for not seeing the warning signs.”

“I’m glad you didn’t, Cathy. I like him.” I looked up at her and hoped she’d see what I was trying to say without my having to say it.

She shook her head. “So you like…” She stopped mid-sentence. “Danny?” She put her arm around me and her head next to mine. “You mean you like him like him. You’re attracted to him. You’re gay, Danny? How could you not have told me? Of course, you’re attracted to him. He’s a handsome guy. Why didn’t you tell me this when I first showed you a picture of him?”

“Because that picture was awful. He had that frizzy hair, and… Dad told me to keep it a secret. He didn’t run off with Ruth. He ran off with Ruth’s husband; he said being gay made his life horrible. He told me to find a man to love and then tell people if I wanted to.”

“Well, fuck Dad and his poor choices. I’m just so happy for you. And to think, I brought you together.” She went to her nightstand. “Put one of these in your pocket just in case.”

“Mom put a bunch in my nightstand when she did yours. She doesn’t want any grandchildren.” I got up and kissed Cathy on the cheek. “Kyle and I are going on a date after dinner.”

“Well, don’t suck his cock until after he pays for something.”

“Cathy! You know guys are sluts; we don’t need our dates to buy us something in exchange for sex.”

“Maybe not, but cum in your mouth tastes better when you have an expensive gift in your pocket.”

“I’m telling Mom that you’re a slut.”

“You do, and I’ll tell her you like taking it up the ass.”

“Checkmate,” I replied.

Dinner consisted of chicken salad sandwiches, some chips, and some lemon pie filling that didn’t make it into the pie. My sister pretended to give Kyle the cold shoulder. I wasn’t ready to tell my mother. I figured that if the next few days went well, I’d tell her after my uncle left.

Kyle and I took off to go to the movies after we ate. We chose to watch a Nicholas Cage movie that turned out to be quite forgettable. I didn’t forget my sister’s advice; however. I purchased him some popcorn, and he purchased me a large Coke. The movie was about halfway through when I felt Kyle’s hand on my thigh. He massaged it for perhaps five minutes, and then his fingers slipped over to cover my dick. Even through my pants and underwear, his manipulations were doing a great job. My cock hardened and strained against my briefs. Once he got me hard, he slipped his hand under the elastic band of my pants. He moved my cock so the head was pointed up toward my navel.

Fingers rubbed up and down my shaft; they encircled the head of my dick; they moved down to my balls. Those fingers brought me to the edge before remaining still and allowing me to calm down. Then he started again. I wanted to scream, but I remained tight-lipped. I wanted to beg him to fuck me, but there were people around us. My abs tightened, and my knees extended, and I spewed forth cum into the elastic of my briefs.

My body shuddered with the last squirt, and I turned to look at Kyle. His eyes were closed; he opened them and turned his face toward me. He slipped his hand from my pants. In the light of the film, I could tell his fingers were wet with cum. Kyle placed each one in his mouth and cleaned my seed from them. He leaned over. “I’ll be right back.” Then he stood and went down the steps. I watched him walk away. I didn’t know what I wanted more, his dick in me or mine in him. I ate a handful of popcorn and promised myself that we would fuck before the night was over.
