*This story is set prior to “Don't Ask Don’t Tell”. Gays were in the Military but VERY closeted. I was one of them. I took great care in hiding my feelings and desires. *

Sean disappeared after last formation, leaving me wondering if he had changed his mind about the shopping trip. I went to our room to shower and change, still trying to decide whether to go the chow hall for dinner or go get that burger and beer as planned. Before I could even get the door fully opened, I heard, “You ready to go?” I laughed, “There you are. Let me shower and change. The stores aren’t going to close for hours”

As I began to undress, Sean slumped back on his bunk. “Aren’t you going to change or anything?” I asked. “No. This is all I have to wear.” “Oh yeah, you mentioned that before. We look about the same size, I have an extra pair of shorts in the bottom drawer there.” Sean jumped off the bed and was opening the drawer as I went into the bathroom.

I finished my shower as quickly as I could. I opened the door and my jaw nearly hit the floor with the sight before me. Sean was bent over with his back to me tying his shoes. My shorts stretched tight against probably the most beautiful ass I've ever seen. He stood up and turned around. He filled the front as well as the rear, a defined bulge heading down one leg of the shorts. “What? Is it ok I wear this pair?” “Umm, Yea, I think they may look better on you than me.” He laughed, “Whatever.” That smile again, ugh. Luckily, I don’t think he noticed my towel bouncing as my cock started lurching. I dressed as quickly as I could, and we headed out on our “date.”

We headed off base. I decided I was going to take him to a bar in a nearby small town, they had the best burgers around. I was a little nervous on the way, I had briefly dated the cook and everyone knew me there. We pulled up to the bar and went in. The waitress recognized me and smiled and greeted me. “Hi Hon, take a seat anywhere, I'll be right there.” We sat near the bar; Sean was looking around taking in his new surroundings. Krissy came to the table carrying two waters, “You sure know how to pick em, this one looks like he could fight a tank and win.” I laughed a little nervously, Krissy knew I was gay. “Yeah, Yeah. What’s the special tonight?” I asked as I shook my head and gave Krissy bug eyes to signal her to stop. She pointed toward the chalkboard above the bar, “The usual, you know Eric he hates change.” I looked at Sean, he was staring at Krissy. I cleared my throat, “The burgers are all good. I usually get the deluxe platter.” “That sounds good and a beer, please” he said with that smile and then looked at me. “The same” I ordered. Krissy rolled her eyes at me, “At least one of you have manners. I’ll be right back with the beers.” She returned quickly with the beers sat them on a napkin in front of Sean and I. “Haven’t seen you in quite a while, hiding this one from me?” she teased. Sean blushed and gave that smile, “I think he was hiding you from me.” She laughed, “Honey, if my old man heard you say that I might get some tonight.” Sean turned a deeper shade of red and said, “I’m sorry.” “No need to be sorry, sweetie, I’m used to not getting any” she joked. “No, I meant, “I’m sorry” I didn’t know...” She cut him short, “No harm done. I’ll be back in a bit with your burgers.”

Sean looked at me, his face still red, and “Guess I’ll have to check my burger over good for a hair or something now.” I gave him a confused look, then got it, “No. Eric, the cook, isn’t Krissy’s husband. Her husband owns the place, he won’t be in till later.” “Wow. You come here often?” he joked. “I used to, don’t come in nearly like I used to. Tell me about your family, where are you from?” I asked, trying to change the subject.

Sean began telling me about his childhood, growing up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, living with his parents, his mom’s parents, and 3 brothers. He and his brothers were close, outside of school they were always together; doing chores, playing, running errands in town. Dinner with the whole family around the table and church on Sunday morning was a given. Sounded like the old TV series “The Walton’s”. Sean stayed on the farm for a few years after he finished high school until his grandfather passed away. Before he died, his grandfather urged him to find his own path; go to college, join the military, start a career. All he knew was the farm and going back to school didn’t interest him.

I told him my childhood was much different. I lived in the city with my mom and younger sister. My parents were never married, my father was mostly absent. My sister’s father lived with us for a long time but left when I was in high school. I joined the Army right out of high school and have never looked back.

We must’ve been engrossed in our conversation. Krissy startled us when she arrived with our burgers. Sean went wide eyed and exclaimed, “Wow! This looks amazing.” Krissy smiled. “Best burgers in town, thanks to this guy.” Krissy cheerfully left the table. Sean questioned, “What was that all about?” Trying to avoid a direct answer, I stated “Long story, maybe another time.”

The arrival of the burgers ended our conversation. Sean ate with his eyes fixed on his plate and his mouth full chewing food. He finished before I did. I joked with him, “Did you taste it or swallow it whole?” He said thoughtfully and with a smile on his face (oh that smile again), “With 3 brothers around you don’t leave anything on your plate for too long.” I smiled and laughed a little. “I guess I wouldn’t either.” I was looking down at my plate and picking at the fries when Sean said, “You going to make love to it or eat it?” “Alright. Alright. Let’s pay Krissy and we can get out of here.” I said as I stood and reached for my wallet. Sean put his hand on my arm, “My treat, remember?” His touch sent shock waves through me, all I could do was shake my head up and down in response.

I was quiet on the drive to the mall, lost in thought. I’ve just met this guy and I am feeling a connection with him that goes beyond lust. I can’t be doing this; I don’t think the feelings are mutual. I resolve to continue this as a friendship.

I parked my car near the main entrance. As we walked in the mall, I said, “I’ve got some things I want to look at, you want to split up and meet back here, say in an hour?” “Ummm. Sure.” he said, I could tell on his face there was more. He put his head down and said in a soft voice, “I was hoping you would come along. I have never shopped for my own clothes; my mom and grandmother usually did the shopping.” I put my hand on his shoulder and said, “Well, let’s get at it then. Where to?” Sean’s face lit up and he smiled at me (Yea … the smile), he thought for a few seconds and said, “Sears? That’s where grandma always shopped.” I smiled, “We could but I got a better idea. Follow me.”

We walked to “Fashion Forward”, a little boutique store in the mall. They carry current and up and coming fashions but don’t have the designer prices. I shop here when I am looking for a special outfit. Sean walked in and started thumbing through the racks, he was clearly lost. I saw a salesperson I recognized Ryan, 20’s, cute, slim, blonde hair, and flamboyant, a great salesman but could be quite pushy. I caught his attention and pointed at Sean. I had to laugh when Ryan put one hand on his hip, the other over his mouth and shook his head from side to side. Ryan approached Sean said something to him and started gathering things off the racks talking to himself the whole time. Sean looked over at me shrugged and smiled. (Not that smile) Ryan was coming back around the racks and motioned for Sean to follow him to the back of the store. Sean was wide eyed as he followed and looked back at me and motioned for me to follow. I continued browsing through a rack labeled “New Arrivals” and smiled to myself imaging the treatment Ryan was giving Sean. A short time later Ryan approached me, “Excuse me. Your friend said he needs your help at the dressing room.”

I followed Ryan to the back of the store. Sean was standing in front of the mirrors turning this way and that way trying to get a view of himself from every angle. He was stunning. A bright colored V neck t-shirt stretched across his broad shoulders and arms, tapered down his abs to his waist, low cut jeans framed his ass beautifully, the view from the front was impressive as well, showing off his prominent bulge. Sean seen me staring at him in the mirrors, “Well” he asked. I stalled putting my finger on my chin, “Looks amazing. What do you think?” He looked in the mirrors again and turned to look at me directly, “Different than what I used to wear on the farm.” Ryan spoke up “Ugh. Farm boys takes more than a pair of bib overalls and a straw hat to attract someone around here.” We all looked at each and laughed. I noticed Ryan could barely keep his eyes off Sean’s bulge, in those jeans I couldn’t blame him.

As Sean headed towards the dressing room, he looked at Ryan and said, “I'll take the jeans and this tee, plus the other colors except pink.” “Oh fabulous,” Ryan gushed, “Just bring what you want up front and leave everything else in the room.” With that Ryan went back to the front. I could hear Sean undressing, I looked around and sat on the bench outside of the room. I noticed in the mirror that Sean had not closed the curtain completely and I could see right in the room. I couldn’t see Sean at first but then he bent over, his naked ass was in full view for me to see. I watched him pull up the shorts he was wearing and then turn and adjusted his package. It was then that I first realized he was commando in my shorts, I smiled to myself. My eyes moved up and met his eyes. Shocked and embarrassed, I stood up and took a few steps toward the front of store. I leaned on the doorway and waited for him to finish dressing. “Hey, I think I got everything. You ready?” he said coming out of the room. Maybe he didn’t see me spying on him.

Sean paid for his purchases and we walked out in the mall. “John, I hope you’ll forgive me, but I looked in your other drawer in the dresser. I would like to get some underwear like the ones you have.” I blushed knowing that he had seen my underwear, “Sure. You know they don’t sell them at Sears, right?” He laughed.
