Twelve Seconds
Tuesday came in low and gray, the kind of evening where the industrial zone looked exactly like itself, no flattery from golden light or long shadows, just concrete and function. Henry clocked out at the plant forty minutes late, changed out of his work clothes in the locker room there, and walked the familiar route to The Factory with his shoulders already unwinding.
Nico had the wall to himself when Henry arrived, halfway through a new black problem that he was clearly setting rather than sending, pausing every few moves to adjust a hold by a centimeter and then drop back down to assess. He spotted Henry at the door and dropped fully, landing clean.
"You look like someone made you carry the whole plant today," Nico said, meeting him at the mats.
"Just most of it." Henry set his bag down and rolled his neck. "What have you got for me?"
They picked up exactly where Wednesday had left off. Nico had built a short circuit of four problems specifically designed around what he called Henry's power profile, routes that rewarded committed hip movement and leg drive over the kind of fingertip finesse that favored lighter climbers. Henry moved through them steadily, sweat building fast, the familiar burn settling into his forearms and thighs like a welcome guest. The coaching was easy between them now, more shorthand than instruction. Nico would tap the inside of his knee and Henry already knew to drop the heel. A low whistle meant his hips had drifted off the wall. They had developed a language without discussing it.
After the third problem Henry sat on the mat, toweling his face, and Nico crouched beside him. "I am going to grab the water and my chalk bag from the back. Left them in the office. Two minutes."
Henry waved him off and leaned back on his hands, catching his breath. The hall had filled up since they started. Elina was behind the counter processing a membership renewal. The two older Tuesday regulars occupied the far wall. A family with two young kids was on the beginner section, the children shrieking with delight at every meter gained.
The roller door opened.
Marcus walked in first, still wearing the same faintly contemptuous expression he seemed to have been issued at birth. Ugur and Adam followed, already in conversation with each other, gym bags over their shoulders. Marcus's eyes found Henry immediately, the way they always seemed to, as if Henry's presence in any room registered as an insult requiring a response.
He stopped a few meters from the mats. His voice came out loud and casual, the practiced volume of someone who had learned that cruelty lands harder when it sounds like nothing.
"Back again, I see. Did the wall survive?" He tilted his head, the smirk widening. "Asking for the holds."
Adam looked at the ceiling. Ugur turned away and began unzipping his bag with intense focus.
Henry stayed where he was, forearms resting on his knees. He kept his face neutral.
Marcus seemed to take the silence as permission. "Seriously, I have been thinking about it. They should put a weight limit on the overhangs. For structural safety reasons, obviously." He glanced sideways to see if anyone was laughing. No one was. He pressed on anyway, dropping his voice to something more intimate and therefore worse. "And the showers, man. No offense, but some things you cannot unsee. I genuinely did not know they came in that size. I thought I was looking at a child's bath toy." He made a pinching gesture with his thumb and forefinger, the gap between them approximately the width of a matchbox.
The hall went quiet in that particular way that meant everyone had heard and no one knew what to do with it.
Henry felt the familiar punch of it land low in his gut. He breathed through it. Kept his face still. The anger was there, clean and cold, but so was something else now, something that had not been present before the last few weeks. A steadiness. The knowledge that two people had touched that exact body with deliberate, unhurried want. The knowledge sat beneath the anger like ballast.
He did not get a chance to speak.
Elina came around the counter.
She moved without hurry, which somehow made it more dramatic. She walked directly to Henry, crouched slightly in front of him, and pressed a light kiss to his cheek. Then she straightened and turned to face Marcus with the same composed expression she used when explaining the gym's late cancellation policy to difficult members.
"Funny you should mention the showers," she said, her voice carrying exactly as far as Marcus's had. "Because Henry." She paused, glancing back at him with something warm and conspiratorial in her eyes. "Last night. I mean." She let out a small, appreciative breath and shook her head as if the memory was almost too much. "I have never been taken apart like that. Completely. I did not know it was possible." She tilted her head at Marcus. "You remember how it was with us, right? Marcus?" A beat. "Of course you do not. It was over before you would have had anything to remember. What was it, twelve seconds? Thirteen? I was being generous in my head when I counted, honestly."
The air in the hall did something complicated.
Marcus had gone the color of a fire exit sign. His mouth opened. Nothing came out.
Ugur had turned back around and was pressing his lips together very hard.
Adam put his hand over his face.
Elina nodded pleasantly at the room at large and walked back to the counter.
Nico appeared from the office doorway with a water bottle in each hand and a chalk bag under one arm, taking in the scene with the quick read of someone who had been coaching humans long enough to understand group dynamics instantly. He crossed the mats, set the bottles down, and looked at Marcus with a calm that was more final than any anger.
"You do not need to change into your climbing shoes," Nico said. "Just leave. Do not come back."
Marcus looked at Ugur and Adam. The look said what it always said, that they were a unit, that this was the part where they followed.
Ugur shook his head. Slowly, but without hesitation. "No. Not this time. We are staying." He glanced at Henry. "If that is alright."
Henry looked at them both. Ugur's expression was straightforward and slightly ashamed in the way of someone who had let something go on longer than they should have. Adam's hand was already reaching into his bag for his shoes, which was its own kind of answer.
"Yeah," Henry said. "That is alright."
Marcus left without another word. The roller door did not slam, which was somehow worse for him than if it had.
The hall exhaled.
Henry stood and walked to the counter. Elina was already logging something in the system, her face professionally blank. He stopped beside her and she looked up.
"Thank you," he said. And then, because he could not help it: "Twelve seconds?"
Elina kept a straight face for approximately one and a half seconds. Then both of them started laughing, the kind that comes from the gut and does not apologize for the noise it makes. She leaned on the counter and he leaned against it and they laughed until Ugur looked over from the mat with a grin that meant he very much wanted to know what was happening and was not going to ask.
"I pulled that number completely out of thin air," Elina said, wiping her eye with the back of her wrist. "I do not actually know. We went on two dates. The second one I left early to reorganize my shoe rack and it was a genuinely preferable evening."
Henry shook his head, still grinning. "You are terrifying. I mean that as the highest compliment."
She accepted it with a small, satisfied nod and went back to her screen.
They climbed for another thirty minutes, the four of them settling into an easy coexistence across the mats. Adam turned out to be a generous spotter once freed from the group dynamic Marcus had imposed, and Ugur offered a quiet, technically sharp observation about Henry's left foot placement that Nico confirmed was exactly right. The session found a rhythm. Nothing dramatic. Just the wall, and bodies working, and the pleasant noise of people doing a thing they all chose to be there for.
Nico pulled Henry aside near the water station while Ugur and Adam worked a problem at the far end. His voice dropped, not conspiratorial but intimate in the easy way it had become. "Ivo texted me twenty minutes ago." He held up his phone briefly. The message read simply: Tell him to come up. Now. Exactly as he is.
Henry read it twice. The warmth that had been sitting comfortably in his chest shifted into something lower and more specific.
"He said the sweaty and musky part himself," Nico added, without embarrassment. "His words. He has been in that apartment since noon dealing with trade fair invoices and apparently reached a limit." He shrugged. "You know how he gets when the patience runs out."
Henry did know. It was different from Nico's open, immediate hunger. Ivo's need when it finally surfaced was quieter and therefore more absolute, a pressure that had been building behind precise language and careful management until the valve opened and everything underneath came through at once.
Henry drank the last of his water, set the bottle down, and picked up his bag.
"Tell Ugur and Adam I said thanks for staying," he said.
Nico nodded, already turning back toward the wall. "Go. He is waiting."
The private staircase was narrow and the light at the top was already on. Henry pushed open the apartment door and the warmth of the interior hit him immediately, together with the low smell of coffee and something else, something warmer and more deliberate.
Ivo stood at the kitchen counter with his back half turned, still in his work clothes from the day. Dark trousers, the sleeves of his black shirt pushed to the elbows, forearms dark with hair. He turned when Henry came in, and the look he gave him was direct and unhurried and left no room for misreading.
His eyes moved over Henry the way they always did, starting at the face and taking their time on the way down. The damp T-shirt. The chalk-dusted cargo pants. The flush of exertion still high in Henry's cheeks. Ivo's mouth curved, something tight and decided in the set of his jaw.
"Good session?" he said.
"Eventually," Henry said.
Ivo crossed the kitchen and kissed him before he could say anything else, one hand gripping the back of Henry's neck, the other palm flat against his chest over the damp fabric. The kiss was not exploratory. It knew exactly what it was doing. Henry dropped his bag, both hands finding Ivo's hips, pulling him in closer, and felt the hard evidence of exactly how long Ivo had been waiting pressed against his thigh.
Ivo broke the kiss but did not step back. His mouth moved to Henry's jaw, his throat, teeth dragging light against the pulse point there. His hands were already working the hem of Henry's shirt upward.
"Leave it," Ivo said roughly against his neck. Then reconsidered. "No. Off."
Henry pulled it over his head. The cool air of the apartment met the heat on his skin, and Ivo's hands were on him immediately, palms spreading wide across the soft expanse of his belly, fingers pressing in with deliberate, unambiguous pressure. The touch communicated want in the most direct possible language.
"Bed," Ivo said.
They did not take their time getting there.
Henry sat on the edge of the platform bed and Ivo was in front of him before he had fully settled, stripping his own shirt with an efficiency that had nothing to do with performance and everything to do with the fact that he had been thinking about this since noon. The dark hair across his chest and stomach caught the bedroom light, and the thick line of his cock was already visibly straining the front of his work trousers. He stepped out of them, and his underwear, without ceremony.
Henry's mouth went dry.
He reached for him and Ivo stepped into the grip, both hands going to Henry's hair. He tilted Henry's head back, not hard, just enough to hold the angle, and looked at him for two full seconds before guiding him forward.
Henry took him in his mouth and heard Ivo exhale through his nose, a long, controlled sound that broke just slightly at the end. He worked slow at first, feeling the weight of him on his tongue, the salt and clean musk of a man who had been dressed and restrained all day and was finally allowing himself none of that. Ivo's hand in his hair loosened and tightened in rhythm, not forcing, but present. Communicating.
"Look at me," Ivo said.
Henry looked up. The steel-blue eyes were dark at the center, focused entirely on him. Ivo's chest rose and fell in the controlled cadence that he maintained even when everything else was stripped away, and something about the gap between that control and the flushed, throbbing weight in Henry's mouth made the heat pool fast and heavy in his gut.
He sucked harder and Ivo's composure fractured at the edges, a rough sound escaping before it was recaptured. "Enough," he said, the word not quite steady. "Turn over."
Henry moved up the bed and onto his stomach. He heard Ivo open the nightstand drawer, the familiar sounds of preparation, methodical and quick. A pillow was pressed under his hips without being asked for, the consideration precise even now. Ivo's weight settled over him, the rougher hair of his thighs against the backs of Henry's, the thick heat of him pressing at Henry's entrance with a patience that was clearly costing him.
"Ready," Henry said.
Ivo pushed inside in one slow, deep stroke that pulled a sound from Henry that he felt in his sternum.
He stayed there a moment. Filling. Present. One hand braced beside Henry's shoulder, the other spread wide and flat across the soft roundness of his lower back, gripping firmly.
Then he moved.
There was nothing gradual about the pace Ivo set. It was not punishing, every movement was controlled and deliberate, but the depth was immediate and the rhythm was real, the headboard finding the wall in a low, repetitive percussion that Henry stopped hearing after the first minute because all of his attention had collapsed to a single point. Ivo's hips against his. The grip of that hand on his back. The low, barely-voiced sounds Ivo made when he drove forward and held, before pulling back to do it again.
"You feel—" Ivo started, then stopped himself. Started again. "Every time." He did not finish the sentence but his hand tightened on Henry's back and his hips snapped forward and the rest of the thought translated without words.
Henry pushed back to meet him. His cock was trapped between his belly and the pillow, the friction building steadily, and he did not reach for it. He let it build on its own, on Ivo's pace, on the specific angle Ivo had found that lit up every nerve ending and stayed lit.
"Harder," Henry said into the sheets. The shyness that had once lived in that word was entirely gone.
Ivo made a sound that was almost a laugh, almost something else. He shifted his weight, both hands on Henry's hips now, and gave him exactly what he had asked for. The pace went rougher, deeper, the controlled precision giving way to something rawer that Ivo rarely allowed all the way out. Henry felt it in every stroke, the want that had been building through invoices and restraint and a text message sent at noon when the limit was reached.
The release, when it came for Henry, arrived without announcement, sudden and total, the pillow beneath him catching everything while Ivo kept moving through it, extracting the last of it with clinical and merciless attention. Henry shook with it, fists in the sheets, barely breathing.
Ivo followed ten seconds later with a single broken sound, the control finally and completely abandoned, burying himself deep and holding there while the tremors moved through him and his forehead dropped to the back of Henry's shoulder.
They stayed like that.
The apartment was quiet. The low noise of the Factory drifted up through the floor, the familiar hum of the building going about its business below.
Ivo eased free, carefully, and turned onto his back beside Henry. His chest moved in long, recovering breaths. The harness was absent tonight, no preparation or staging, just the two of them and the Tuesday afternoon accumulation of want and work trousers on the floor.
Henry rolled onto his side to look at him. Ivo's eyes were closed, forearm resting across his face in a gesture that looked almost vulnerable coming from him.
"Long day?" Henry said.
Ivo moved his arm. The steel-blue eyes opened, still dark at the center. The quiet curve of his mouth appeared. "Better now," he said.
Henry settled back against the pillow. Downstairs, the faint sound of chalk buckets and shoes on mats continued. Nico's voice carried up once, coaching, clear and warm. The city outside the high windows was doing whatever it always did.
Henry looked at the ceiling and felt, with the particular clarity that sometimes followed exertion and satisfaction together, that this was exactly where he was supposed to be on a Tuesday evening in Cologne.
Every layered, chalk-dusted, honestly-earned inch of it.
