Chapter 1

The journey of "a thousand" crushes...

Shoot, he thought as he shot. He had made a New Year's resolution to stop pining over his apparently straight coursemates, but then again, he made that particular one every year.

And it didn't help that he was attracted to more than one guy at a time. Fucking hell!

Normally, he didn't look at any reflective surface after jerking off, jerking off being wrong by Christian standards and whatnot, but his phone had just blanked out in his line of sight and he saw his reflection. What are you doing? he thought to himself. He put his phone in his left pocket and cleaned up, feeling remorseful, but feeling even worse because he knew he'd do it again. He always did.

He started to pull his pants up when he spaced out. He wasn't quite sure if he "subconsciously deliberately" did it–the whole spacing out stuff, but it had become a thing–his thing.

He was drawn back to reality when someone banged the door of the stall he was in.

"I know you're in there," his annoying friend, Ann, shouted.

"Well done, Einstein," he retorted. "What a groundbreaking discovery!"

As he later learnt, turned out she saw him leave the cafeteria after bumping into Calvin. Yep. One of his crushes at the time.

Now, he didn't go jerking off just after bumping into any of his crushes, but Calvin's scent went straight to his head. Well, both his heads, pun intended. He had to rush out to sort his hard-on. And by sort, he intended to just "arrange" it. Turns out he did more than that.

Plus, he was a very hormonal teenager. So, don't judge him.

"You're not supposed to be in here," he told her, in feigned annoyance.

She wanted to speak when he intercepted.

"Oh, I forgot. Rules don't apply to you."

As he headed towards the sink, he didn't need to look at the mirror in front of him to know she was behind him, grinning. And honestly, he didn't want to look. But he did. And he smiled.

He was waiting for her ambush as they walked out of the men's convenience together. It never came. At least, not yet.

"Annelise," the janitor playfully disapproved, as he made his way in.

"Who? Where?" she looked above and around, looking for no one in particular. Then, her eyes rested on him and she smiled. "Sorry, sir."

"James. You do have a thing for not listening," he said.

"Sorry, James," she smiled sheepishly this time.

"It's fine," he replied, brushing it off. "Off you both go."

"Yes, sir–James," they both laughed at their synchronisation, as they left.

He was still waiting.

"So–"

Here it is.

"–what–"

"Jerk off," he cut her off. He was impatient. She seemed to be dragging the words too long.

"Yup. Just wanted to confirm," she grinned the type of grin he'd always wanted to slap off her face.

That was surprisingly less ambush-y, though. Thank God.

By the time they went back to the cafeteria, he looked around for Calvin. Phew, he's gone. He promised myself to be less hormonal. He'd later see how that plan went.

He saw Calvin's friend, Lucas, though. Everyone called him Luc, so that explains why he seemed shocked when he shouted, "Lucas."

As Lucas gave him a quizzical look, he noticed his green eyes. His pink lips. His well-detailed jawline and cheekbones. He brushed it off seconds later. He wasn't looking for a new crush.

Crap. Why exactly did I call out to him? He had nothing to say in particular when he started.

"I–"

Luckily, he was saved by the literal bell.

Lucas just stood up and left, giving him a brief plastic smile.

He looked back to where he left Annelise. She was gone.

Best fucking friend of the year.
