Because it would be awesome is the guy was so super clueless as to say "Hey take my underwear off and give that back to me but don't have sex with me at all because i'm assuming this was just about underwear, not actually your attraction to me."

That said, we should all probably consider most folks clueless to our interests. Because the point is we actually have to make them obvious. Say something. Do something. And putting on someone's underwear seems a good way to say hi.
