This is a story of humiliation, domination, manipulation, and foot worship which will be evident in the succeeding chapters. Enjoy!

CHAPTER 1

Baxter McDaniel was a successful New York investment banker. He was born with a silver spoon and led a privileged life but the truth was that Baxter would have done well regardless. He was smart, athletic and extremely handsome. In high school he was the star quarterback, president of the student council, and prom king. In college he led his lacrosse team to multiple championships, dated the most beautiful girls on campus and graduated summa cum laude. He was naturally a member of the most popular fraternity, Tau Kappa Delta, along with many of the school’s top athletes and was even president of his fraternity in his senior year. He looked back fondly on those years, the good times they had, and the friendships he’d formed. Even after he’d graduated and went on to a successful financial career he was an ardent supporter of his fraternity and often visited his alma mater as an adviser.

Yes, Baxter McDaniel was an extraordinary man but this isn’t a story about Baxter. This is a story about his son Ben. Baxter had married a beautiful actress who had died tragically just three years after they married. She left behind the son they’d had together. Ben was just a year old when his mother died. He never knew her. Baxter opted to spend his time nurturing his career rather than his son. Ben had been raised by nannies until he was 9 years old and his father remarried. Baxter’s new wife was decidedly less motherly after the wedding and just a year later when Ben was ten she convinced Baxter that boarding school was the best place for the boy.

And so it was that Ben grew up among strangers, his isolation occasionally interrupted strained holiday visits with his father and stepmother and his half-brother and half-sister at one of the family vacation homes. Unlike Ben, his younger siblings lived with his parents in their sprawling Connecticut home and attended a local private school.

Ben had every reason to tell his father to fuck off based on the way he was treated but despite all of that Ben loved his father very much. Baxter wasn’t a bad man; he was just not the kind of man who was good at being a single father and found it easier to leave Ben in the hands of childcare workers. After years of loneliness he’d re-married and when his new wife pressured him to send Ben away to school he gave in. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about his son but if he was honest with himself Ben was a disappointment. Despite having two parents who had hit the genetic lottery, Ben struck out. He was very average looking and not athletic at all. He was rather thin and clumsy: a bookish introvert who was unable to follow in his father’s footsteps as an athletic winner. Ben longed for his father’s approval but despite his good grades there was little Ben could do to impress his dad.

That’s why when Baxter told Ben he wanted him to attend his old college and be a member of his old fraternity Ben agreed even though he really wanted to attend another school that had a much stronger science program. The chance to make his dad happy, to finally be like him in some small way, was more than enough incentive to go. The thought of joining a fraternity was daunting to the extremely shy Ben but he told himself maybe this would be his chance to break out of his shell, to make some good friends and have the college experience his dad wanted for him.

So he went. He’d arrived on campus two days ago. His father was supposed to drive him up but as usual something at work came up. Ben told him he understood but he regretted the chance for some bonding time with his dad. Class wasn’t due to start for 2 more days and since moving into his dorm room he’d done little more than explore the campus and hang out in the library. When his father called that evening he seemed disappointed that Ben hadn’t made time to go over to the Tau Kappa Delta house and introduce himself. Ben promised him he would. Pledging for frats didn’t actually begin until a week or so after school started but Ben really didn’t have to worry about that. Because of his father, Ben was a legacy. That is, the frat had to accept Ben. He was very thankful that he’d be spared the embarrassment of pledging and then having to compete for a few open spots. Though hazing was strictly forbidden the fraternities and sororities still put applicants through their paces. They just made sure not to cross the line with anything dangerous. No one wanted someone to die of alcohol poisoning or get seriously injured in some stupid stunt. But that didn’t mean that they couldn’t have some fun with the hopefuls in terms of endurance and embarrassment. It was all in good fun right? Few people actually washed out these days. In the end it came down to a popularity contest like most of life. The cool kids got in and the rest looked on jealously.

Yes, Ben was extremely glad he’d get in without all that. It was just a club after all. It might be nice to have a built in social group to rely on in a new school. That might ease the stress of trying to fit in, something he was never good at. With those positive thoughts in mind Ben resolved to visit the guys at TKD and follow in his father’s footsteps. The next day he spent some time at the campus bookstore stocking up on supplies. He was loaded up with notebooks, binders, pens and stuff when he headed out of the store. He decided to grab some lunch before going back to his room. He was trying to balance a tray full of food and an arm full of books and wasn’t watching where he was going. It happened too fast to avoid. He bumped into the guy, spilled his tray, and dropped his books.

“What the fuck?!?” the guy shouted.

Ben saw that most of his lunch had ended up on the guy’s t-shirt and unsurprisingly the guy looked pissed.

He glared at Ben. “What the fuck dude?!?”

“I’m sorry,” Ben offered. He heard some people laughing in the background and saw the guy give an embarrassed and angry glance in their direction. In response the guy peeled the stained t-shirt off, wadded it up and threw it on the floor in front of Ben.

“Thanks a lot dumbass!” the guy snapped.

Ben suddenly noticed that the shirtless guy was fucking ripped. He also towered a good 5 inches over Ben and he wondered if the guy’s impressive biceps where about to inflict some serious damage on his face. Instead the guy just shouldered him out of the way and stomped off. Ben watched him stride across the campus seemingly unconcerned that he wasn’t wearing a shirt. In fact, Ben suddenly realized he’d been staring a little too long when heard another giggle. With a flush of embarrassment he cleaned up the mess, picked up his notebooks and went back to the dorm. He found he’d lost his appetite.

It was around 5:00PM when Ben decided to check out the TKD fraternity house. It was a large Georgian style home which had clearly had some additions over the years but seemed pretty well maintained, no doubt in part to generous donations from sponsors like his father. It was still early enough in the Fall to be warm out and there were several guys hanging around outside: relaxing on the porch with a few beers, playing some touch football in the large side yard, and even a couple of guys who seemed to besetting up a barbecue pit.

No one seemed to pay much attention as he approached the house. He felt a bit awkward but not knowing what else to do he made his way toward the porch. A couple of the guys watched as he came close.

“Hey,” Ben said.

One of the guys seemed to study him a bit before he answered. “Something we can do for you?”

“Umm, I uh,” Ben stammered, “I just thought I’d come by and introduce myself.”

“Pledging doesn’t start till next week. We’ll put up signs,” he said dismissively as if that settled the matter and resumed his conversation with the guy next to him.

“Um no,” Ben interrupted, “I’m Ben McDaniel.”

The guy who’d spoken earlier turned back to face him with an annoyed look, “Am I supposed to know who the fuck you are kid?”

The guy seemed a couple of years older than Ben, maybe a junior or senior, but being called “kid” still irked him. “I’m Baxter McDaniel’s son,” he said shortly.

A look of comprehension spread across the guy’s face. “Oh right, Mr. McD. He’s your dad?”

Ben nodded and the guy stood up and offered a handshake, “Cool. I’m Jake. Nice to meet you. Beer?”

Ben had only tried beer once or twice and didn’t really care for it. “Nah, I’m good.”

Jake shrugged and sat back down. “This is Pete and that’s Dave and that’s Mark” he said identifying the other guys on the porch.

“So you wanna be TKD huh?” the one named Pete asked.

“What?” Ben replied.

“Tau Kappa Delta. TKD. Our fraternity?” Jake prompted.

“Oh yes,” Ben answered. “I mean, my dad was so umm yeah.”

“What do you play?” Pete asked.

“You mean like music or games or something?” Ben asked cluelessly. Pete rolled his eyes and gave Jake a look.

“Sports,” Jake explained succinctly. “Do you play any sports?”

“Oh, um no. Not really a sports guy,” Ben answered sheepishly. The porch was quiet for a few seconds and then Ben asked nervously, “That’s not a requirement is it?”

The guys all looked at one another. “Nooo,” Jake answered slowly. “It’s not really a requirement but most of the guys here play sports. Well, all of them really.” He shifted uncomfortably.

There was a little more stilted conversation and then Ben said he needed to get going. He knew hedidn’t fit in with the guys at TKD but he didn’t want to let his dad down. He’d just have to put up with being the geek in the jock frat. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe they’d appreciate having a bookworm around who could help them with their studies. He didn’t have to play sports to have something in common with them.

Jake and the others watched Ben walk back to the dorms. As soon as he was out of earshot though, the conversation started.

“You’re not actually gonna let that guy join are ya?” Pete asked? The question was directed at Jake was the current fraternity president.

“What am I supposed to do?” he snapped. “His dad’s Mr. McD! He’s a fucking legacy!”

There was more heated debate but it was clear that no one was happy about Ben joining the fraternity. The first week of school was busy but Ben didn’t find it overly challenging. The college was prestigious but not as academically rigorous as the school he had planned to attend. Still, Ben was happy. He liked his professors. His roommate was quiet and liked some of the same books and movies Ben did. And his dad had called twice to see how he was doing and seemed pleased Ben was following in his footsteps. Finally it seemed they had something in common.

Things were going so well it wasn’t until Thursday rolled around and he remembered the TKD Pledge Party was that night that he got a little nervous. Still he got ready and headed over determined to endure the social awkwardness he always experienced at parties. As he made his way up the drive of the frat house, any notions of a wild, out-of-control party like in the movies was dispelled. The music was at a reasonable volume. Whatever alcohol was being imbibed was being done very discreetly. And, in general, guys were just relaxing and talking. There was plenty of pizza and soft drinks and it all seemed rather mild.

Ben had been given a name tag upon arrival which identified him as one of the new guys. The TKD members were making an effort to meet and talk to everyone. Ben saw some of the same guys he’d met the first day and quite a few new guys. Unfortunately most of the conversations were a repeat of his first visit and quickly ended once they realized he wasn’t a jock. Ben was starting to feel more uncomfortable. This might be harder to adjust to than he’d estimated. He tried making small talk with some of the other guys wearing name tags. They were friendly and they all had one thing in common, they were new to the school but it also quickly became clear that they were jocks. It ranged from football to tennis to wrestling but everyone seemed to be some sort of athlete. All told there seemed to be twenty or so pledges and Ben was very thankful that he wasn’t going to be competing for a spot in the fraternity because he doubted very much it would be a spelling bee.

Eventually the TKD members gathered at the front of the room. Jake stepped forward to address the crowd. “Guys! Guys!” Jake said over the noise, “Thanks for coming tonight. We’re glad you decided to pledge for Tau Kappa Delta and it’s been great getting to meet you. We’re gonna get started in about 15 minutes so take care of any business you need to.” With that they filed upstairs while about half of the pledges made a beeline for the bathroom. Ben had gone just before so he just watched the TKDs march out and wondered what would come next. He was trying to remember each of their names figuring that would be a go a long way towards establishing friendships when suddenly he realized one of the brothers was the guy he’d spilled food on the week before. He hadn’t run into him earlier in the evening. He knew he wasn’t on that guy’s list of favorite people. When he joined the frat that would be an awkward meeting. Ben resolved to apologize at the first opportunity.

Meanwhile upstairs the brothers were exchanging notes on who among the pledges they felt should be invited to join. There were three unanimous choices and from there the pack was pretty even. As usual, there were no objectionable candidates. Except for one. Ben. None of the guys who’d talked to him liked him and really couldn’t understand why he was even there. He clearly didn’t fit in. That’s when Jake broke the bad news that Ben was a legacy and they didn’t have any choice about letting him in. There was a lot of groaning about this and suggestions about how they might get out of letting him join. No one could believe he was Baxter McDaniel’s son. Mr. McD was a legend at TKD and the guys alwaysloved when he visited and told stories about the fraternity goings on in his day. Someone suggested that Ben wouldn’t even want to be member after meeting everyone tonight. Surely he realized how out of place he was.

“No chance,” said Dale glumly. “I talked to him and he told me how his dad wants him be here.”

“We can’t piss off Mr. McD,” Jake said. “He’s responsible for almost half our sponsor donations. We lose him and we’ll be struggling to pay the bills much less have money to do anything.”

“What if he washes out?” asked Tyler.

“He can’t wash out Ty,” Jake repeated, “He’s a legacy.”

“Does he know that?” Ty asked with a sly grin.

The guys leaned in. “What are you suggesting?” Dave asked.

“If we can’t reject him then we get him to reject us,” Ty explained. “If he quits on his own then it’s not our fault and Mr. McD can’t be pissed at us.”

Jake looked skeptical. “How are we gonna get him to quit?”

Ty shrugged, “Sometimes pledges quit. They can’t hack it.”

“But he’s not a pledge,” Dave repeated.

“Doesn’t mean we can’t treat him like one,” Ty said.

The guys thought this over for a bit. “What happens when he tells his dad?” Paul asked.

“Let me take care of that,” Ty said confidently. Tyler Davidson was the vice president and would be president next year after Jake graduated so his word carried a lot of weight.

Jake thought it over and then nodded. “Okay, but if it comes down to it then we accept him. We can’t lose the money.”

“Trust me,” Ty said with a grin. The guys quickly decided how to handle the pledges and then headed back downstairs. They gathered everyone together and Jake addressed the pledges.

“Guys, the brothers have met and I have to say it was a hard choice.” Jake explained. “Unfortunately we only have six open slots and there are twenty-three of you. But we want you to know that even if we’re not fraternity brothers you guys are going to be our teammates on the field or court and that’s what counts. Go Blue!!!”

There was a round of applause and then Jake continued. “Tonight we’ll read out 12 names. If we call your name, hang around. If not, then thanks for coming and we’ll see you at next month’s mixer.” Then one of the guys read off the names and the party broke up. Ben wasn’t surprised when his name was called and he hung around with the other eleven guys. Then they broke the twelve of them into 4 groups of 3 each. Each group was assigned to 3 brothers. Ben realized that the guy he’d spilled food on was one of the brother’s overseeing his group. He was introduced as Tyler Davidson.

Jake addressed the twelve remaining guys. “Congratulations on getting this far. Half of you will be invited to join. That decision will not be made until we’ve fully evaluated your worthiness. There will be rules. There will be tests. You may be rejected at any time. It will not be easy. Of course,” he continued, “you can walk away at any time. In fact, anyone want to leave now?”

He paused and looked at each of them intently but no one moved. After a moment Jake went on. “The brothers your subgroup has been assigned to will primarily responsible for evaluating you. In fact, one of them will be personally assigned to you. He will instruct you as to the TKD rules. If he says jump you jump. Got it?”

There was a chorus of ascent though Ben just nodded. He realized the brothers had to explain all this to the pledges but of course it didn’t apply to him. He figured they would pull him aside privately rather than explain to the pledges why Ben was automatically a member.

“If there are any questions ask the brother you’re assigned to,” Jake said. “We have your e-mail addresses and you will receive a list of your house duty assignments and events you are expected to attend. Failing to complete your assigned duties or missing any event is grounds for rejection. Now your brother superior will meet with you individually to go over a few things. Remember, he will be the one deciding your worthiness to join the best fucking fraternity there is.” Jake finished with a grin. Ben had been separated into a group with two pledges named Jeff and Lee. The TKD brothers for their group were Paul, Dave and the guy called Tyler. Jeff was assigned to Dave and Lee was assigned to Jeff. Ben was assigned to Tyler. It seemed a funny coincidence to Ben but he figured this would be his chance to apologize. The other guys went off to talk and he was left alone with Tyler.

“I’m Tyler,” he said stepping up to Ben. He didn’t offer to shake his hand or anything.

Ben introduced himself and then said, “Look I’m really sorry about last week.” Tyler looked confused. “What are you talking about?” he asked.

“Last week,” Ben explained, “When I bumped into you. Sorry about that. I’d be happy to replace theshirt.”

“Oh hell!” Tyler scowled, “You’re that guy!”

“Um yeah,” Ben said nervously. “Like I said sorry.”

Ben didn’t realize it but he’d just given Tyler another reason to dislike him. He hadn’t actually recognized Ben. Why should he? Some clumsy nerd he saw for two seconds certainly didn’t matter to him. But now it turned out this dumbass was trying to crash his frat and that really pissed Tyler off. He had half a mind to just beat the shit out of the little punk but he thought better of it and decided to stick with the plan. “Yeah it’s cool,” he told Ben. “Have a seat we need to talk.”

Ben sat and Tyler continued. “Look I know you were expecting to just join the fraternity straight up because of your dad but the problem is we have too many legacies this year. There’s just not room for everyone.”

Ben was momentarily taken aback. This was something he just hadn’t considered. When his dad had talked to him about joining he made it sound like it was all a done deal. The thought that he wouldn’t get in like his father expected was a crushing blow. His father would be so disappointed in him.

“But I thought…” Ben started before Tyler cut him off.

“I know this is a surprise. That’s why we’re talking to each of you. To explain the situation. You understand that right?” Tyler asked.

“Well yeah but my dad…” Ben started again.

“Yeah, your dad is an important guy around here. And to be honest, if he told us to just let you in we’d do it in a heartbeat. We have a lot of respect for Mr. McD.”

Ben nodded. Of course, that’s the way it always was. People loved his father.

“But that’s not really fair to the other guys is it?” Tyler continued. “Their fathers were also proud members of TKD and they deserve to be here too.”

“How many of them are legacies?” Ben asked.

“All of them.” Tyler answered.

Ben couldn’t believe it. “All of them?” Tyler nodded. “Now you see the problem. There are 12 of you and only 6 slots. We picked you guys because you were the legacies and deserve to be here but from here on out it needs to be fair don’t you think?”

“Yeah but…” Ben said.

“So here’s the deal dude,” Tyler said, “We know you could call your dad and guarantee yourself a spot but that’s not going to make you any friends around here.” Tyler’s tone suddenly turned icy. “Do you want to be the whiny bitch who had to have daddy get him into the frat? Think that would make your dad proud?”

Ben gulped. Tyler was right. If he had to have his dad get him into TKD it would just make things worse. It would give his dad one more reason to be disappointed in him. Ben didn’t want that. He desperately needed his father’s approval. As he mulled this over, Tyler was watching him intently and could see his carefully worded speech was having the desired effect. He wanted this guy out of here ASAP but he had to tread carefully or Mr. McD would find out TKD was trying to keep Ben out. He needed Ben to quit on his own so the fraternity couldn’t be blamed.

“Look,” Tyler said sympathetically, “I can see you understand the situation and want to be a man about this. I’m sure the other guys feel the same way. Remember, they’re in the same boat you are. I’m sure you’ll agree that the only fair thing is to give each of you an equal shot.”

Ben nodded and Tyler smiled and continued. “They’re getting the same info right now. This way it’s fair. You’re all on a level playing field.” That was a complete lie of course. The other pledges were just being given info on the frat and getting a tour. Only Ben was getting this line of bullshit.“So are you ready to continue?” Tyler asked.

“Sure,” Ben replied.

“That’s the spirit! I mean, there’s 12 of you and 6 spots do you have a 50/50 shot.” Tyler lied. “Now let’s regroup with the others.”

Ben followed Tyler back into the large common area where most of the others were waiting. Tyler sent Paul off to round up all the others. Once everyone was back together the brothers lined up behind him and Tyler addressed the group.

“Okay so each of you understands the score right? At this point you are all on equal footing. You’ve met with your brother superior and he has explained everything to you.” Tyler said. Of course, Ben thought he was referring to legacy debacle which is precisely what Tyler wanted him to think. He continued,

“Now the real fun begins.”

He pointed at one of the pledges. “You! Who’s your brother superior?”

“Brother Dean!” the pledge named Austin replied.

“And what did you think of him?” Tyler asked.

“Seems like a decent guy,” Austin said tentatively.

Tyler grinned. “Did the rest of you think your brother superior was a decent guy?” Everyone answered yes including Ben. He thought Tyler seemed pretty nice.

The smile vanished from Tyler’s face. “Well you won’t be thinking that for long!” he snapped. Behind him the other brother’s crossed their arms and mimicked Tyler’s scowl. The pledges shifted nervously in the uncomfortable silence as the brother’s glared at them.

“The fucking fun is over boys,” Tyler warned. “From here it gets tough. Tau Kappa Delta is the best fucking fraternity and we only take the fucking best so party time is over. You want to be one of the elite then you’re gonna have to work for it.”

“Rule 1,” Tyler said, “You are fucking pledge scum. From here on out you will not be referred to as pledges. When a brother addresses you he will call you scum because you are scum and that’s what you will answer to. Do you understand scum!?”

The pledges quickly said “Yes” but Tyler said, “When you answer a brother you will say, ‘Yes sir brother’ and the brother’s name. Do you fucking understand?!?” he shouted.

This time there was a resounding, “Yes sir Brother Tyler!”

Tyler permitted himself a small grin at that. “You will generally refer to brothers as Brother and their name. The exceptions to that are your brother superior who you will refer to as Awesome Brother and Brother Jake who you will refer to as President Brother Jake. Do you understand scum?”

“Yes sir Brother Tyler!” everyone said as one. Tyler immediately rounded on Ben. “What did you just say scum?!”

Ben gulped at being singled out. “Um, Yes sir Brother Tyler!”

“Are you fucking clueless scum?!” Tyler snarled. “Am I not your brother superior?”

Ben realized his mistake and corrected it this time. “Yes sir Awesome Brother Tyler!”

Tyler seemed reluctantly satisfied with that and went back to addressing the group.

“Rule 2, when a brother gives you an order you obey it. Now your TKD brothers are responsible for you scum and they will not order you to stand in traffic or juggle chainsaws. You will not obey any order that is intended to cause obvious harm to you or anyone else. But any other orders are expected to be obeyed. Do you understand scum?!”

Everyone shouted, “Yes sir Brother Tyler” with the exception of Ben who was careful to use the term ‘Awesome’ in his response.

“The orders of your brother superior supersede those of the other brothers. The orders of the president and vice president supersede your brother superior.” Tyler strode up to a pledge named Wes. “Stand on one leg scum,” Tyler ordered. Wes was quick to say, “Yes sir Brother Tyler!” even though he was asked a question and then he stood on one leg. Tyler turned to the other brothers and asked, “Who is responsible for this scum?”

“I am Brother Tyler,” Jack replied. Tyler nodded and jerked his thumb towards Wes; at that point, Jack barked, “Switch to standing on the other leg scum!” Wes immediately switched legs as he replied, “Yes sir Awesome Brother Jack!”

Ben thought that Wes had complied with the rules Tyler set down but apparently Jack didn’t agree.“What the fuck are you doing scum?” he asked Wes.

“Standing on one leg Awesome Brother Jack!” he quickly replied.

“Why did you fucking switch legs scum?” Jack asked.

Wes figured it was a test of his knowledge of the rules and answered, “Because the rules of my brother superior Awesome Brother Jack supersede the orders of Brother Tyler.”

“Wrong!” Jack snapped. “What did Brother Tyler tell you about superseding the orders of your brother superior?”

Wes thought for a second before answering. “The orders of President Brother Jack supersede your orders Awesome Brother Jack!”

“Who else?” Jack pressed.

Wes was stumped so Jack explained, “The orders of the vice president supersede the orders of your brother superior.” Realization dawned across the group as Jack said with a grin, “That’s right scum;Brother Tyler is your vice president so what he says goes.”

Ben realized that Tyler was not only his brother superior but also the vice president. Somehow he thought that wasn’t going to be in his favor.

“Relax,” Tyler ordered Wes who was clearly relieved to no longer be the center of attention. For the next 30 minutes Tyler laid out more rules including the ability of the brothers to hand out merits and demerits based on the pledge’s performance. While number of points a pledge had wouldn’t directly determine their eligibility for one of the slots it would influence the brothers’ decision in regard to worthiness. A pledge that was unable to complete tasks and follow orders might not be TKD material. At the end of the dizzying array of rules he was expected to follow, Ben was wondering he had gottenhimself into. Still, he wasn’t an idiot and figured he could follow their silly rules and maybe score enough points to convince the brothers that he’d earned a spot. Tyler finished up the session by ordering everyone to run 3 laps around the frat house. The winner would earn 10 merits. Last place would earn 5 demerits. Not surprisingly, Ben was last. Tyler made a point of chewing him out in front of the others. “You fucking embarrassed me scum!” Tyler shouted.

“I’m sorry Awesome Brother Tyler,” Ben gasped as he still tried to catch his breath.

“You are now at -5 points scum,” Tyler said.

“I’m sorry Awesome Brother Tyler,” Ben repeated.

“Maybe I should give you another chance,” Tyler suggested.

“Thank you Awesome Brother Tyler,” Ben said eager for some way other to earn points than a foot race.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Tyler had in mind. He had the pledges race around the house again. This time a different pledge came in first. Ben, however, came in last again and earned another dressing down by Tyler.

“You’re a fucking turtle aren’t you scum?” Tyler mocked.

“I’m sorry Awesome Brother Tyler,” Ben wheezed.

Tyler awarded 10 merits point to the new winner and 5 more points to everyone else but Ben who earned another 5 demerits.

“Do you want me to give you another chance,” Tyler asked knowing Ben was in no condition to run again. The other pledges looked eager though. They were more than happy to keep racking up points at Ben’s expense.

Ben thought for a second and then said, “I’m sorry Awesome Brother Tyler but I don’t want to disappoint you again.”

“So you’re saying you can’t win against these other scum?” Tyler asked.

“No sir Awesome Brother Tyler,” Ben said honestly.

Tyler would have loved to continue humiliating Ben in race after race but he had to give Ben enough rope to hang himself.

“I’ll tell you what scum,” Tyler said, “I’ll give you a task you might actually be able to accomplish as I way of apologizing for embarrassing me in front of the other brothers. You can wash my car and I’ll give you 10 points but if you don’t want to do it I will give everyone else 5 points. You’re already 15 points behind most of the guys so it’s up to you.”

Ben didn’t want to fall even further behind. If he didn’t wash the car he’d be 20 points behind. If he did it he’d only be 5 points behind. He had three classes tomorrow and he knew he’d have to studyafterwards but he’d have time in the evening to wash the car and earn some points.

“Thank you Awesome Brother Tyler sir,” Ben replied. “I will wash the car.”

The other pledges looked disappointed that Ben didn’t pass on it but Tyler looked pleased. “Smart move scum. My car is the red Porsche around back. There’s a bucket in the garage. You better get started.” Ben paused. It was almost 11PM. Did Tyler really expect him to do it now?

“Excuse me Awesome Brother Tyler sir,” Ben replied. “I was planning on washing it tomorrow evening.” Tyler laughed, “That’s not the deal scum. You either do it now or forfeit the points.”

Ben was torn. He was exhausted but he didn’t want to forfeit.

“I’m sorry Awesome Brother Tyler sir,” Ben replied. “My mistake. I will wash the car now.”

Tyler grinned. “Okay, the rest of you are dismissed until tomorrow. Check your e-mail in the morning. Follow the instructions. Talk to your brother superior if you have questions.”

The pledges headed back to their dorms and the rest of the brothers headed inside. Tyler remained behind for a moment.

“Better get busy Ben,” Tyler said. “I want to inspect your work before I turn in and I plan on being in bed by midnight.” With that, Tyler turned and strolled back into the house.

Ben sighed and headed off to wash the car.
