All of my senses betrayed me as I stirred. The warmth of the body next to me, the stiffness of the wood under me, the cold night breeze gently flowing over my exposed skin, the feeling of my shorts caught on my legs, the rough brushing of denim against me, the dull ache of whiskey on my brain. Opening my eyes it all comes back to me. The fear, the fight, the feelings. The splash of something large in the water draws what's left of my senses out of there haze. I gently pull myself from John Boy and shakily stand up, shedding the ripped shirt while kicking off the shorts and ruined jock. I move to raise the railing around our the plank, a precaution we added a few years back after finding a gator basking on the plank. Once I'm satisfied with our "security system" I unlock and open our storm proof trunk along the back of the plank. I gather our phones, mine from the floor and his from the table and plug them up to the battery pack. I take out two camping blankets and close her up.

Rubbing my face I try to push all thoughts of the outside out of my mind. I reach for my pack of cigarettes that somehow ended up under the table and light one. That first sweet drag calms me, the smoke hits my lungs and I close my eyes. The sounds of the water moving, the falls falling, the cicadas buzzing, the toads crocking - the sounds of home. A smile plays across my lips. I was so in my own world I didn't notice the man standing beside me until he lit a cigarette and pressed his shoulder to mine. I press back and keep my eyes close, feeling his arm snake across my bare shoulder pulling me closer. Switching my cigarette to my left hand, I wrap y right arm around his waist, gently ticking his side.

We just stand, existing in the space of the moment, taking slow long drags. When our cigarettes are smoked to the ends he takes them both and places them in the stone ashtray on the table. Taking my hand he leads me back to where we were laying. Placing one of the blankets down on the plank he kicks off his jeans and pulls me down. The blanket is a nice relief to the cool chill of the night and his heat quickly spreads through my bones. We lay on our sides and look into each other's eyes, smiling sweetly. My heart races as our foreheads meet and our bodies press together, his lips softly press against mine as his fingertips drift softly across my back causing my hips to press against his.

He pulls gently away from me and I look into his eyes. I haven't seen that look in so long. Fear. I hold him close and roll slightly on my back as his head falls onto my shoulder. He places his right leg over mine and drapes his arm over me. With a sigh of relief, I feel his body relax and I place a kiss on the top of his head. Within moments he's asleep with a gently snoring against me. John Boy is strong and jovial in nature with a smile always plastered on his lips, so it's easy to forget how much emotions exhaust him. Taking in the moment, it's not long until I drift off as well.

A Peaceful Moment.
