A surprise for a friend

I am not entirely sure how long I had been sitting there, being lost in my thoughts, but it felt like hours. I looked at the time. It was already 5.00 pm and whatever was going to happen came closer, my anxiety intensified, and my heartbeat rate was rising. I decided to take a shower to not smell like sweat from the workout I had in the morning even when I probably get dirty again according to what Nick told me. I went to the bathroom and dropped my clothes on the floor, stepped in the shower, and turned on the water. I shrugged. Coldwater was running all over my body and I got goosebumps all over.

I started shivering and immediately reached out for the water heat regulator and turned it to the right. Now warm water was displacing the cold water on my body. Yet again, I was thinking about what Nick told me, but it just made no sense to me. It was like a puzzle with one missing piece to complete the work. Maybe I was just overthinking this whole situation and he just wanted to tease me, but I would do as he told me and be there in clothes that I didn’t mind getting dirty or damaged. For once someone else but myself had control over me and my doing.

It felt strange but it also had its charm and I kind of liked the feeling. I stood under the shower thinking for what felt like at least 10 minutes, so I finally soaped myself and rinsed off, the of shampoo, sweat and dirt. I stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel out of the shelve and dried my body. I already tried to think of what I should be wearing. I did not want it to be too casual but neither did I want to ruin my good clothes. When I finished in the bathroom I went into my room and put on a pair of white boxer shorts and went over to my closet. I decided to wear a brandless green shirt and brown Bermuda shorts.

I felt comfortable in the clothes I had chosen and checked my outfit in the mirror. Once again, I looked at the clock. It was now 5.40 pm. The Dunkinstreet was only about 10 minutes away so I decided to get ready and leave. I grabbed the keys, my phone, and headphones and closed the door behind me. I plugged in my headphones and started a random playlist and started walking. I just had to walk straight ahead and then turn left at the end of the Walterstreet but I didn’t even know where in the Dunkinstreet I was supposed to be waiting for Nick. The street wasn’t long but after all, there are quite a lot of houses and the rundown cinema in the center.

As I almost reached my destination, my anxiety intensified but what made me so anxious? I didn’t know what was going to happen, but it couldn’t be that bad, at least that’s what I heavily relied on. I can always trust my friends, but can I now? Foot by Foot I strolled into the Dunkinstreet not knowing what was about to occur and if Nick was even there. What if this whole thing was just a bad prank? We occasionally played each other smaller pranks but pranking me with a fake surprise? Come on, that would be very mean. Meanwhile, I was halfway in the street and still, there was no sign of Nick waiting anywhere. I pulled out my phone to check the time when suddenly Nick appeared behind me.

He was hiding and just waited for me to pass so he could scare me, with success. I shrugged from shock and jumped in the air. When I came back down, I fell on the concrete. I started yelling at him and said: “Are you out of your mind?”. But all he did was staring at me. Again, he had this smirky smile on his face. It was almost creepy how he looked at me. Then he said. “There’s plenty of things planned for you today so I had to get set up for what is going to follow.”, he lowered his voice to sound more serious and continued, “This is your special day! Do not worry, you will be taken care of by professionals.

Now move, we must get going or did you think we were going to the Cinema? You already watched every film there and to be honest, what we planned is going to be a lot more fun at least for us.” I started to walk with him while thinking about what he just said. Just like before his words didn’t tell exactly what was going to happen. There are too many ways to interpret this. What was going to happen and who are those that planned this thing? Are all my friends involved in this plan or was Nick working with other people who I might know. Too many questions and no answers. He again had total control over me. I was walking while thinking about it and not knowing what my next destination would be.

We passed again on Walterstreet and were now walking into Maxwell Street. I still had no clue where we were going. Nobody I knew was living here. No friends, No family, and nor anyone else. We walked all the way to the end and turned left into Herold street. Still, it made no sense and suddenly Nick stopped and said: “I will have to blindfold you now. I can’t risk that you figure out where we were heading to.” He turned me around in circles several times, waited a moment, and then started to walk again and pull me at my arm so I could follow. He successfully confused me. I now had no clue in which direction I was walking. Are we still in Herold street, back in Maxwell street or did we enter Abbey way? My senses were a lot more intense since I was blindfolded by Nick. A few yards felt like miles. The smell of the flowers mixed with the smell of a cheap fast-food restaurant crawled in my nose and the soft breeze of air grazed over my uncovered body parts. I never had been blindfolded before and simply closing my eyes wasn’t the same feeling.
