*This is follow up to my story Christmas Love and should have been chapter 2, as was going to be publish on Christmas day. However it was delayed due to ongoing festive activities so hence the title change*

Then she said “dad are we still on or do you want to come round to us I still got loads of food left over from Christmas, that we have not used?”

Her father sighed quietly and looked at Shane who grinned and mouthed “I told you we did not have time” and touched his arm as if to say “relaxed it will be sorted ok.”  So Chad replied in light tone “no Lisa love, it’s fine I up see you guys in a while yeah can you give me say 2 hours as I forgot the time?”

Lisa replied “yeah I give you 3 and will let everyone know. Oh hang on dad, Chad Junior wants a word” and he heard his 6 year old grandson saying “hello grandad, are we going to see you today and your friend Shane as well?”

“Yes grandson of course you are coming to see us.”

“Good as I like your friend Shane as he is nice man bye grandad see you soon.”

“Ah bye Chad see you and Marie (who was his 4 year old granddaughter) later” and he heard Lisa come back on and say “alright dad we will all be there at 7.30pm, which gives you time to tidy up and get ready for us all to come round yeah?”

“Cheers thanks love see you later” and he hung up and said “we better get up now Shane.” 

They both did and in no time they had the place tided up and put the food on. Luckily they had prepared all of it yesterday and both being good cooks and got everything ready. They were standing in their new house, which 6 months ago they had rented the house next door, to where Chad was living. This property had become vacant when the tenant decided to emigrate to Australia with his girlfriend. 

Chad asked Shane if he wanted to move into the house, and seeing as by then they were staying in each other flat on alternative nights, this was great practical solution. Shane who own his flat had rented it out to his brother work colleague Aaron, who paid his rent in time and was no trouble. So  the house they moved into was large, with 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, with wide open sitting room and a 100ft square garden.

So there was plenty of space for the two of them and all of the family who were coming over that evening. In fact there were so many changes that happened naturally , as they got on with living together and getting to know each other. So having sorted everything out they had a short while to sit and have a coffee, as they waited for the family to arrive.

Then 15 minutes later, the doorbell rang and everyone arrived. 

First Chad daughter Lisa arrived with her no longer annoying partner Alex, and his grandson Chad Junior an granddaughter Marie. It was only the 4 of them as Alex’s 2 badly behaved teenage lads, were now living with his ex-wife in another city thankfully. 

Then behind them was  Chads 2 sons, the youngest Stuart who was now working with Shane who own a small construction company. However he always skint and still borrow money off his old man. Chads eldest  son Bill who was with his girlfriend Haley, who was 8 months pregnant. Next came Shane’s daughter Laura’s with her boyfriend Cameron who was Police Officer and she was also 8 months pregnant and soon sat down as she was feeling uncomfortable.  

Shane’s 2 sons came in last, the eldest was Rick and youngest Chris who work with his dad and Stuart. The two of them were party boys and hung out together in and out of work. Chad when he first was introduced to Shanes family, urn round and Shane “are you sure that these are not your birth sons Shane, as I swear you all looked so alike?”

To which Shane nodded and said “yeah it’s a weird one that, but we all looked like each other,  everyone say so and always taken aback when they find out our situation. Yes my Laura is always relating some story of the other, with me being a gay dad and all amongst other things!”

The boys took Chad straightaway and as stated in a Christmas Love, they had been adopted by Shane and his ex-partner Joe, who was now married to Tim. Shane was hostile to Tim saying to everyone “oh my ex Joes man’s a bit of a twat. Yeah he is a posh Home Counties middle class wanker with his annoying  condescending ways.” 

He said this to Chad after they left the pair of them after going over for dinner as they were driving home, and Chad noted his hostile body language and tone when he spoke to the man. He did not comment on it but noted Shanes ex and his children uncomfortable looks. Shane said “yeah love the man just pissing me right off the fucking eejit!”

 The thing was that the boys got on with Tim, like  house on fire which annoyed him no end and Chad let him rant on and then stopped the car and turn to him and too his hand and said “Shane it’s not worth causing all this drama about, is it love?” 

“Plus its upsetting to the boys, Laura and Joe as well mate!” 

His stating this as he looked into his eyes, calmed Shane down, and he shrugged his shoulders and he smile ruefully and said “yeah your right, I am I dunno…” 

To which Chad said “I get it I was the same with my Ex Joanne’s new fella Fred, with my 3, all get on with him so I was bit of a grumpy twat and it was little Chad Junior who said to me grandad why do you not like Fred?” 

“I was right embarrassed but fixed up after that so…..”

“Due to this Shane reflected on this and thereafter was far more civil to Tim , which his ex Joe was relieved about, but he still call him condescending middle class twat!

So back to the party and they all sat, drank, and ate and made conversation, and it was really good evening as they waited for the bells to ring in the new year. As they sat there Chad look round and felt so happy compared to the night when he met Shane, where upon he sitting in the pub feeling sorry for himself, having been recently divorce from his ex-wife. 

“Thank god I went to the pub otherwise I would never have met my man Shane.”

Lisa sitting next to him, touched his arm and said “Dad I am so pleased that you met Shane as your always smiling now as you used look so sad all the time.”

“So you saying I was miserable git then Lisa love?” 

Chad responded with smile, and he grinned when she said “yeah dad you were, and I know I was bit surprised when you turn up with Shane for a while, but he is lovely dad. Alex said so straight away when he told me about the two of you” and they both looked over at Lisa partner Alex, who look over and waved smiled. 

Her partner’ handsome face lit up as he noticed the pair of them looking at him, as he spoke to Shane, Bill, and Haley. Alex whose parents were from Barbados was a rugged 6ft gym tone bloke, with a pair of dark brown eyes that bored into whoever he was looking at the time. Lisa loved the bones off him. 

Chad said softly “yeah Alex is great and sorry love I been a bit of git to him as I though he was right plank but he aint.”

“Yeah Dad he aint hence why I love him plus I know you like my last boyfriend Sam but he really was idiot and plank and his wife’s just left him.” 

Chad nodded and said “yeah I did like that he was funny lad, but yeah he was bit of an idiot come to think of it” and they looked at each other and started laughing. And as they did so Chad thought back to when he met Alex in their local pub a few weeks after he and Shane got together. The pair of them were talking intimately sitting close to one another, with their heads almost touching when they were spotted by Alex, who has come in for a swift pint before heading home to Lisa and kids. 

He stood there watching them and said to himself “those two look a bit cosy” and after a while he went over to say ‘hello’. Chad’s face became bright red and he became conscious that he and Shane were sitting a bit to close one but did not move and did know how to deal with this situation. Well he did which was to start shouting and being hostile, to the bloke.

Now though he was feeling apprehensive re Alex’s reaction to his being so intimate with another bloke like this. To which Alex looked at his almost father in law, who he knew took him for an dumb idiot, and saw that the 47 year old light skinned mix heritage black/white man, with a slim toned body, was uncomfortable. 

It did not take genius to work out what was going on, and he did not say anything except to say “ hi I’m Alex,  Chad’s daughter partner nice to meet you em?”

“Shane “and they grinned at each other and shook each other hands. Alex said “ok I won’t disturb you guys, see you soon Chad mate” and he went to walk away. Chad coming to his senses said “no stay have drink with us Alex.” So he did and they were talking and he knew straight away that his partner’s father was having sexual relationship with this man. 

It was the way they were each other and they kept on staring at each other like him and his Lisa always did as if no one else mattered. Alex was surprised but the man look happy for the first time in years, so he was pleased for him. He like Chad and did his best to get on with him,  but he knew that the man found him beyond annoying and had no time for him, no matter how hard he tried. 

Chad he knew thought he was not good enough for his daughter and his dear old mum use to say ‘take patience son, he will come round, you’ll see’. After a while he left them and shook Shane’s hand and touched Chad hand and grinned. An understanding passed through them and Chad was relaxed and got up and hugged him and Alex left them. 

As soon as he got home, he told Lisa about meeting her father and that he was with Shane .

“Whose Shane” she asked?

He said carefully, “em I think he and you dad are close friends love!”

“What do you mean by close friends Alex, as my old man only has that mate of his Mitch and a few work pals?”

He replied “ I think they are having a close relationship Lisa.”

“What do mean by close Alex?”

He cleared his throat and said “em well I may be mistaken, but I think your dad and Shane are the same as my uncle Izaiah and his husband Eric babe!”

Lisa looked stunned and exclaimed stammered “wwwwwhat!” 

“Nah mate definitely not. My father not gay, you got it wrong Alex. Why would you say such a thing?”

She was getting worked up and said “nah love your wrong, no way is my father and that bloke you talking about having sex with  each other.”

“I aint got nothing against gays and love your uncles Izaiah and Eric and all, but nah mate I don’t believe you!”

As she stated this Alex looked at her and raised his eye brows and their son interrupted them, and the rest of the evening was uneventful. But Lisa also discovered this that her father was seeing bloke after she bumped into Mitch his mate, and she struggled with this . Lisa eventually met Shane a few weeks later, when she and kids went over to visit him and found Shane sitting there. 

She warm to his easy going matter and said “I love your accent” and the fact that her dad could not stop smiling was refreshing as he could be miserable git. 

Lisa liked Shane, as did both of her brothers Bill and Stuart more about that later. Shane’s children’s were also ok, and as so was Chad drinking acquaintance Mitch who he saw regularly in the pub and who had told Lisa that what her fella Alex had told her was true, that her old dad and Shane were in fact a couple now. 

He seen Shane about and knew he was gay, having seen him with Joe and knew they had parted. He noted that at New year when he popped in that Chad was sitting with Shane and his friends Sue, and Sasha a lesbian couple who he had seen before.  He was in hurry so did not go over and left but he notice that the pair of them were always together after that, every time he came into the pub, and he asked the landlord Andy what was going on.

“”I dunno was response and he smiles knowingly and Mitch being direct person asked Chad straight out “what is occurring with that gay bloke Shane and you mate?”

 Chad mumbled something and he was asked, “mate what going you and that Shane bloke then come on mate?”

Chad panicked and said “em its nothing mate we just get on that all” and he change the subject. Later on Shane came in and Mitch said nothing but when Shane got up to buy a round of drinks he said to him “mate you and bloke Shane are boyfriends aint you and don’t lie to me pal?”

He was looked at as his mate flushed and started sweating and he nodded afraid to speak. He was told “mate good luck to yer as you deserve it, my brothers gay and is married to smashing fella Kofi, so that’s that then.” 

Chad stammered so you don’t hate me then and think I bleeding poofter then?” 

Mitch looked at him and said ‘poofter, don’t you mean a shirt lifter?”

“That’s so old fashioned pal and hey life’s too short for all that stupid stuff. Hey, that Shanes a nice fella and your good for each other as this is the happiest I have seen the bloke so,” and he touched his hand and smiled as Shane came back and dropped 3 packets of crisps on table and he said “you two look serious, what have I missed?”

“Nothing Love!”

No Chad sat in his home and was smiling inside at the memory of that, and looked at his daughter and at the other guests and noticed it was 10.30pm. He said “well another years nearly over” and she said “yeah come on lets go and chat with the other, Stuarts pissed as usual just look at the state of him” and they did and they were all enjoying themselves. 

A short while later, Lisa put her daughter to bed as she was tired and Chad Junior was having none of it. So she said “ok sit there and behave yourself” so he sat between his mum and grandad, with Shane on the other side of them with Alex. 

It now was 11.55pm and just in pause of quietness, he said “Grandad are you and uncle Shane boyfriends then?”

Chad started and said “ergh yeah we are son” as he looked at the others who was staring him and Shane, who was looking amused. 

“Oh ok, well my friend Peters dads got married, so are you and uncle Shane gonna get married then?”

The room was suddenly even quiet and Chad and Shane looked at each other……
