Ask GayDemon: Sex Talked Out

Is it normal to feel uncomfortable about discussions about my sex life with my parents? They ask with great interest, and it seems genuine, but I just find it awkward and embarrassing. I just think those kinds of things should be private.
-So Not Listening

What do you want? A double standard where you're seen as a sexless someone who has gay discussion with your family only about politics and the occasional gay-themed movie or sitcom? Or to be treated maybe in some overcompensating way so they can prove they're not disgusted by you?

I have no measure for this beyond having met "the parents" of people I've dated and our boyfriend relationship to be treated as asexual. Knowing that if it were a hetero thing, one or both of the parents would be asking about my intentions, or talking at least in some way about compatibility, not necessarily sexual, but romantic anyhow. Or at minimum shared interests.

So maybe your parents go a bit past your limits, but they can only know that if you say something. They may have a perception that gay folks, if you're gay, are super always major comfortable with sex talk. Which is so not true. You think every gay couple talks openly and vulnerably about their sexual desires? Nope.

And maybe your feathers are ruffled because you're a bit queasy to talk about gay stuff too. So make sure your own boundaries aren't due to internalized homophobia. Though goo look figuring that one out. It's complicated.

Still you're totally allowed to have boundaries. Know maybe they want to be able to talk somewhat openly about sex because they want to be part of your life, be there for you, and maybe make sure you're looking out for yourself .I'm betting they've worked in s few tips here and there, like don't get in a stranger's van. Don't leave your drink unattended. Don't rim at midnight.

Because we all know what happens when you rim at midnight. You use mouthwash at one.

Then you rim at midnight the next day too because that will make you popular. Which is your answer. Have so much sex you never have time to see your parents. And if they start talking about sex on the phone, bill them like it's a phone sex line. I'm guessing it won't be their first time.

P.S. If anything here really goes past your boundaries, tell them to shut the fuck up. I'm sure they'll understand the fuck part anyhow.
