Fundraising meeting

As a local businessman I learned during the pandemic just how much folks in our community faced difficult times.  I own a local pizza joint and it was a mom and pops start up from the 1970’s.  As a high school kid I worked there part time.  The family was kind and generous to me.  As I transitioned to college I still worked for them during Christmas break and each summer of my four years.  Upon graduation the owner came to me and said ….come back to the restaurant and I’ll make you an assistant manager.  Several of my friends thought I should use my business degree and move to bigger opportunities.  I’ve always respected the owner and he’s been more than fair to me. Fast forward twenty years later and I am now the sole proprietor of Geppettos pizzeria.  

During the pandemic I fed our local fire and police department.  I have leaned over the years watching the original owner extend support to the community.  To me it was a good idea but I definitely developed a reputation of leading a helping hand.  

Last year our local firefighters took on the task of sponsoring the toy drive for our local kids.  I immediately told the chief to drop off a toy bin and I’d promote the toy drive.  I’ve known the chief for years.  It’s no secret I’m a gay man and honestly…it’s never been a problem in the community.
