I stood on the porch of an old farmhouse as I looked out at a pasture dotted with the green of lantana and johnsongrass.  Even with my not being a farmer, I knew that pasture had been neglected.  The house was also in disrepair.  Two rusted-out cars, a Chevy Vega from the 1970s and what looked like an earlier pickup without any wheels, were parked in what should have been the front yard.  Overgrown with weeds, I wondered how the place looked when a young Mrs. Cromwell lived here with her two children and the man I was supposed to meet today.
“It wasn’t there,” said Ethan. “We’ve always hidden a spare key in that place. Where the hell is he? I told him I was bringing someone special up here to meet him.”

“Could that be your dad? That car is slowing down.” I pointed to the road at the entrance to the driveway.

“It sure the fuck is,” said Ethan, the irritation in his voice was unmistakable.

“Let’s just ignore it. We’ve had some extra time to ourselves. Should we walk to where he parks?”

“Yeah, he always parks in the back.”

The two of us walked to the back of the house where Mr. Cromwell had just opened the door to the backseat. “So, you’re already here. I bought some hotdogs in case you wanted to eat something while you’re here.

“That was nice of you,” I said.

“Hmmph,” was his reply. “I didn’t want to go, but Ethan said he was bringing some girl up here to meet me. Where is she?”

“I didn’t say that, Dad. This is Benjamin; he’s the friend I wanted to introduce you to.” I could tell that Ethan was seeking his dad’s approval. I’ve seen lots of my friends do it. I guess I was one of the lucky few.

“You said it was your fiancée. I was going to tell you it was a mistake, anyway. Instead, you brought a friend.” His father’s voice was gravelly. I didn’t like him immediately.

“Dad, he’s my boyfriend.”

His father stared at him. “Are you still on the gay kick? Didn’t that huge dick of your friend from high school teach you anything?”

“What are you talking about?” asked Ethan.

“That kid you used to go to the pond with.”

“Eric? What about him?”

“He had the biggest fucking dick I ever saw. I figured one fuck from him and you’d be back on the straight and narrow.”

“What the hell. Eric was just a friend from high school. He never fucked me. I’ve never seen his dick. Why have you?”

“Saw him taking a piss once. The biggest one I’d ever seen.”

I stood near the car without saying anything. I was in disbelief at the conversation.

His father continued. “So you’re still a faggot.” He shook his head. “And you brought your faggot friend to meet me. Which one of you is the guy and which one of you is the woman? I figured Ethan for the woman, but this one doesn’t look like much. Why him?”

“It’s called love,” said Ethan. “I love him; he loves me. He makes me happy. I make him happy.”

“That’s because you’re twenty years old and fuck like rabbits. It ain’t any more than that.” His father spat on the ground. “Don’t do it son; eventually his hole will get loose and you’re want to trade him in on a younger man whose ass is still tight. Get a young girl, but don’t be stupid and marry her.”

“Dad!” Ethan’s face was red. His fists were clenched. I suspected that his father knew just what buttons to push, and I wondered whether they had had similar conversations in the past.
“I’m telling you, son. Fuck ‘em and forget ‘em. You get attached to them and they’ll ruin your life., he’ll drive you to the point of murder. It happens all the time.”

“Like it did to mom?”

I felt my teeth clench and my butthole tighten.

“That fucking bitch deserved it. Don’t you forget that.”

I saw Ethan’s knees give way. He collapsed onto the ground. I wasn’t sure what to do. I’d left the phone in the car. There were no bars out here anyway. The house was locked, so I couldn’t get in.

“Where is she!?” screamed Ethan as he staggered to his feet.

I saw the old man took toward the barn.

“I’m not a fucking idiot boy. I don’t know where she is. She ran off.”

Ethan screamed and knocked the man down. He got on top of him and tried to choke him. “You fucking killed her, didn’t you?”

I grabbed Ethan; it took all my strength to pull him loose. “Ethan, get up. We need to leave.” Ethan’s eyes were full of rage. “In the car!” I screamed. Ethan stood. Although I would feel shame later for feeling what I felt, I wanted to stab that man over and over and over again and watch the blood spill from him. How could he have done that to my Ethan? Ethan, with the kindest soul on the planet. My Ethan, full of love and caring. That man had brought evil upon his son, and it was spilling onto me. I pulled Ethan to the car; he was crying now. I couldn’t understand his words. I pushed him into the passenger seat.

With the door closed, I moved around the car. I planned to drive us away. I didn’t have the key, but it was still in Ethan’s pocket. The car should start. I didn’t notice Mr. Cromwell approach me with the bat. The first strike was between my shoulder and my elbow. The pain was excruciating. The second blow bounced off the side of my head. I didn’t feel that one. The world went black.

The brightness of the room hurt my eyes. My head hurt with a dull ache. I saw my parents come up next to me. I lifted my head. “Am I in the hospital?”

My mother smiled. “Yes, sweetie, you are.”

Some people in scrubs came into the room. “Hey, there, Benjamin. I’m Eric. I’m a nurse. We’ve called your doctor. You’ve been unconscious since yesterday, possibly a mild coma, but you’re awake now.”

I smiled up at him. I was thinking ‘no shit, I could tell I was awake.’ Instead, I said, “Thank you.” I tried to look around the room. Ethan wasn’t there. My vision blurred; I felt a tear run down my cheek.

“What’s wrong, Benjamin? You’re going to be OK. Are you in pain?”

“Just a little headache, I think. Where’s Ethan?”

Eric smiled.

I heard my mother. “He’s taking Andy home. All four of us have been here all night. Your father just texted them.”

“And they’re on their way back,” my father chuckled. “Everybody loves you, Benjie. I love you, son.”

“I love you, too, and I love you, too, Mom.”

The doctor came into the room to find us all in tears. “Tears of joy, I’m sure,” he said. “Everything looks fine. Except for those stitches on your head, and some aches and mild pain, everything is in good order. Call me if anything doesn’t seem right, but your scans only show the mild bruising that I discussed with your parents. You should take it easy over the next week. I’ll start processing your release.”

Andy showed up a few minutes later. “Hey, big bro.”

“Hey, little bro.”

“You scared me, Benjie.”

Eric helped me sit up. “Come here.” Andy came up and I held him close to me. I whispered in his ear. “You know what, little homo brother, fucking is fucking awesome.” I kissed his cheek. “I love you, Andy.”

“I love you, too.” He stepped back. “Can I be the ringbearer when you marry Ethan?”

“Andy,” sighed my father.

“I haven’t asked him yet,” I said. “Besides, I thought you’d be my best man and Chandler would be the ring bearer.”

Andy smiled. “Fucking awesome.”

“Language,” reprimanded my mother.

Ethan came into the room. His cheeks were wet, and his eyes were red and swollen. His lips trembled as he said, “They found her.” Then he rushed over and held me more tightly than he ever had.

I stayed with Ethan for the next week. Since he worked from home, he convinced my parents that he would be there if I needed anything. That first night, he fed me chicken soup, Sprite, hot tea, and a slice of coconut cream pie. He told me what happened. He’d seen his father come up, but he wasn’t able to stop the first two blows.

“I think he would have killed you if I hadn’t knocked him down. I think it was how much I love you that gave me the strength to do it. I started to slap and punch him; he was fighting me back. I told him I’d stop if he told me what he did to my mother. He said she was under the pig trough where she belonged, and that I’d be joining her. I don’t know how he got to his feet, but I tackled him.

He wasn’t moving after that.

“I got you into the car and drove to the little emergency clinic. The police came. I told them what had happened. They found him and took him to the hospital. He had a heart attack at the hospital and died. The police found my mother’s body exactly where he said it was.”
I held him. “I’m so sorry.”

“He was evil. He tried to kill you.”

“I know. But you saved me. You’re my hero.”

Ethan kissed me, gently, lovingly.

“You know,” I said, “you promised that we’d make love every day.”

“I’m not sure I promised, but I do remember saying something about it,” he smiled. “The trouble is that you’re supposed to rest. No physical activity.”

“But we’re already behind.” I slid my hand against his crotch. “Let me roll over, and I’ll just lie here while you make me moan and fill me with your seed.” I adjusted myself on the bed, removed the pillows so I could lie flat on my belly. “Slide my pants down, Tiger.”

“Now I’m a tiger?” Ethan asked.

I felt the cold of the lubricant. “It didn’t take much to convince you.”

“I never could resist you.”

“You say that as if we’ve known each other always.”

“Honestly,” he said as he moved onto me, his weight pushing me down into the bed, “I don’t remember life without you.” I felt the pressure of his erection pushing against me, trying to gain entry.

I took a deep breath and relaxed. His dick felt larger as it penetrated me. I moaned softly. I could feel his hips pivot, pushing him in and pulling him out. His lips kissed the back of my neck. I felt my cock grow and push against the sheets. His dick pushed over my prostate repeatedly. I tilted my hips up just slightly.

“Let me do the work. Breathe deeply and relax. You don’t need to do anything.” He kissed me, and my hole tightened its grip and I came. I could feel the sticky fluid beneath me.

“Oh, fuck,” said Ethan. He began to pump more vigorously, and then he pushed in and filled me.

“Don’t move. Stay like that.”

We remained still and quiet except for the sound of our breathing. I knew that the future held more promise of love, warmth, safety. Ethan was the perfect man for me, and I would do my best to be the perfect man for him.
