I grabbed Ethan’s hand and led him into the house and upstairs.  I stopped at the top of the staircase.  I wrapped my arms around his ass and squeezed his cheeks.  “I can’t get enough of you,” I told him.  I took him into my bedroom.  “Do you want to shower first?”

“No.”  His answer was quiet and deep.  His hands reached up and held the sides of my head.  He kissed me deeply and passionately.  “Are you sure?”

His question put doubts in my head.  Was he sure?  I wanted him to be as sure as I was.  Did he need more time?  I didn’t want him to stick his dick in me just to dump a load in my belly.  The thoughts must have registered on my face.

“You’re not sure.  I can tell.  You want to; and right now, you want to do it with me.  But wanting it because you’re horny isn’t what you’re after, is it?”

Was that what it was?  Was it just because I was horny?  “I want to because I’m falling in love with you, Ethan.  I want to because I want to be as close to you as possible.  I’m worried that I’m overthinking things simply because you asked.”

“Then we need to wait.   I don’t want you to worry or to regret it.  We have time to get to know one another better, and maybe ourselves, better.”  He held me tightly to him.  “Let’s go out and get something to eat and you can tell me about the project you’re working on.”

A childish voice started screaming inside of me.  No, tell him to either fuck you or get lost.  He’s not the only man around.  He’ll be sorry.  I bit my lip.  Were those my real thoughts?  Did I just want to get fucked at any cost?  “OK,” I said,  “I’m glad I didn’t take my shoes off.”

We went back downstairs and out to his car.  My brother and Chandler came out after us.  “You’re supposed to take Chandler home,” my brother said.

“Oh?  I didn’t realize he was here,” I lied.  I’d forgotten.

“We can drop him off,” said Ethan.

“Does he have his stuff?”

Chandler ran back in to get his backpack.

We were quiet in the car until we dropped him off.  As Chandler went inside his house, Ethan turned to me.  “You’re awfully quiet.”

“My brain is running around in circles.  Am I ready?  Am I not?  I was sure I knew, but I wonder now whether I want you because you’re so attractive.  Am I really falling in love with you or is it that I want to be in love with you?”

“I hope you’re really falling in love with me because I am really falling in love with you.”  He pulled the car into a parking lot between Chicken Express and Whataburger.  “Hamburger, Chicken, or Catfish?”

“Catfish.”

“You know there’s a ten-minute wait on that.”  He smiled and drove into the Chicken Express line.  “What’s your side?”

“Cherry Pie.”

“Dr. Pepper, Coke, or Sprite?”

“Sprite.  Lite Ice.”

Ethan pulled up to the speaker.  “Two three-piece fish combos.”

“There will be a ten-minute wait on that.  Is that OK?”

I chuckled.

“Yes.”  He finished the order and we moved up.  Two pickups were in front of us.  “Can I suck your dick while we wait?”

“Sure.”  I casually undid my zipper and pulled my shorts down enough to get my penis out of my underwear.

“Um.  I was teasing, but…”  he reached his hand over.  “Fuck.  They’ve probably got cameras.”  His fingers grasped my cock, and I hardened at his touch.  “This is not a good idea,” he continued.  “I cannot resist you.”

“I love you, Ethan.  I know I do.  Oh, fuck.”  I sprayed my cum on his dashboard.

Ethan reached into the back seat and pulled a rag forward.  He began to wipe down the dashboard.  I put myself back in my pants just as the trucks moved forward.  We pulled into the spot just behind the window.  Someone came out with our drinks.  It was my best friend Gordon.

“Hey, Benjie.  What’s up?”  He handed the drinks to Ethan, and Ethan handed his card to Gordon.  Gordon leaned up to the windows.  “Hey, Coach.  I thought you should know, but your car smells like you’ve been jerking off in here.  Or have you been fucking?”  He gave me a thumbs up.

“Really?”  Ethan acted surprised.

Gordon looked over at me.  “You are so fucking lucky,” he said; then he turned to walk inside.  We pulled up to the window, and Ethan was given his card and a bag with two large boxes as well as two small ones.  I took them from him and we drove to the hiking trail.

“Do you know Gordon?”

“He’s my best friend from school.  He knows I’m gay, so he’s always teasing me about shit.  He just saw me with the most handsome guy on the planet, so he had to say something.”

“He was on a team that I coached last year, so I know him, too, but I pulled him from the team.”

“So you’re the one,”  I said as if it were a bad thing.

I heard a big sigh.  “He’s going to fucking tell people that we were fucking in my car, isn’t he?”  Ethan sounded worried.

“No, he’s not.”  I let him off the hook.  “He doesn’t have a vendetta for you.  He was glad you pulled him.  He hated baseball; his father was making him do it, and Gordon thought he sucked at it.”

“He did suck at it.  Poor guy, it seemed that no matter how hard he tried, he stayed a beginner.”

“So, you’re actually one of his heroes.  Plus, he wouldn’t embarrass me.  You, on the other hand, you jerked me off in the Chicken Express drive-thru.”

Ethan opened a box of fried catfish.  “Yeah, I did.  I wasted all that spunk.  I should have waited and blown you.”

I took a piece out of the box.

“Hey, this is my box of fish.”

“Yeah?” I said as if I were in charge.  “Blow me.”  I narrowed my eyes and smirked.  “Oh, I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow.  Someone has already emptied my balls today.”

“Remind me again why I’m in love with you,” said Ethan.

“I’m not sure.”  And I wasn’t sure, and I suddenly felt emotional.  My eyes welled up.  I bit off a piece of fish and began to cry.

“Oh, Benjamin.  I was teasing.  I know why.”  He suddenly paused.  “Fuck me.  I’m an idiot.  I do know why.  You’re an incredible man.  You’re smart as well as a smart-ass.  You keep me on my toes, and I love just talking to you.  You make me feel loved just by the way you touch me or look at me.  I can’t stop thinking about you, and even when I worry that I might hurt  you, I know you’ll forgive me for my stupidity.”

Tears still spilled down my face.  “I don’t know why I’m crying.”

“It’s my fault.  I’ve been so concerned that you might get hurt, that…”

“No,” I said.  “I appreciate…um... when you’ve asked me if I’m sure, I understand that you’re looking out for me because I don’t have as much experience.  But I’m just so insecure, and sometimes, when you ask, I wonder if you have doubts.”

“I don’t have any doubts, Ben.  When I hold you, I can see myself holding you fifty years from now, a hundred years from now, for always.  You fit perfectly in my arms, and I don’t mean just physically.”

I looked at the blurry image of him and tried to dry my eyes.  “And you make my heart flutter.  I want to hear your voice and feel your touch, and when my brain stops thinking about something, it’s thinking about you.  I want to share everything with you.  Everything.  I want you to tell me your stories and to know everything about you.  I want to give you what you need.”

“I just need you.”

I leaned over the console and pressed my greasy lips against his.  “Want a bite of my fish?”

“Only you could say that to me and make me love you more.  Let’s take our fish to your project so you can tell me what you’re doing.”

“Will you squeeze my ass while we walk?”

“Just try to stop me.”

We both laughed.

“Now where is this project?” Ethan asked.

“It’s up the road a bit, then you’ll have to park.  We’ll have to walk a little way down the trail, but it’s not far.”  As I had promised, it wasn’t far, and soon we were standing on the bridge.  “It just needs some stain.  Mr. McMurry at the hardware store donated some, and he’s having it delivered here tomorrow.  He also donated the brushes.”

“You’ll need help.  That’s a lot of wood to stain.  What time?”

“Right after school.  I get out at three-thirty.”

“I’ll be here.”

I kissed him and held my fish to his face.

He took a bite.  “I have my own, but yours tastes better,” he laughed.

“That’s what all the guys tell me,” I replied.

“Do you charge them?” Ethan asked seriously.

I didn’t understand his question.  “I’m not…”

“So I know whether to call you a whore or a slut.”

“Well, I haven’t charged you, so I guess I’m a slut,” I told him.  “Not a very successful one, though.”

“That’s going to change.  I promise.  I’m in love with you, Benjamin Hastings.  Nothing’s going to stop me from proving it to you.  I have no doubts, and now I’m sure that you don’t either.”

“I’d kiss you and rub your crotch, but my hands are greasy.”

“Mine are greasy, too.  And, I think the mosquitoes are coming out.  I just heard one in my ear.”

“The trails close when it starts to get dark.  I wouldn’t want to get stuck out here at night, in the dark, so far from town, where no one could hear you scream for help.”

“So no one will come,  in the night, in the dark?”  Ethan laughed; then he stopped suddenly.  “What was that?”

“The sound of your dick snapping off if you don’t quit it.”

“Hey,” he reminded me, “you started it.”

I didn’t answer; I ran back to the car.  As I reached it, I thought about slipping into the driver’s seat.  Would Ethan try to sit on my lap?  I thought better of it and went to the passenger door.  It was locked.  I took another piece of fish from the box.  Half my piece was gone when Ethan sauntered up to the car.  “I thought you would want to hurry so we could make out, but…”

“And I thought you were coming to get some napkins, so…”

“You locked the car.  I’d plan to get naked in the back seat, but…”

“You wanted to spray your sperm around the back seat of my car, so…

“You thwarted my efforts.  Now I remain fully clothed, bitten by mosquitoes, and still greasy.”

“I guess I need to take you home and wash you off,” said Ethan with a rather matter-of-fact tone.

“Your home?” I asked.

“I have a bigger shower.”  Even in the dimming light, I saw the smirk form on his face.

“I’ll think about it.”  I tried to hide my smile, but when he turned to look at me, I just started to laugh.

On the way to his place, I realized I didn’t know where he lived.  I’d never asked.  I still had a piece of fish that I was just finishing up.  “This has got to be the best tasting catfish in the state.”

“I noticed that myself, but I wondered whether it was the company I was keeping that made it extra wonderful.”

“That would explain why yours is so good.”  I said nothing else and tossed the last piece in my mouth.  I began to speak with my mouth still filled with fish.  “It has to be the coating, or maybe it’s the temperature of the oil.”  I continued chewing.  “No, there’s still a missing element.  Mmmm.  What could it be?  I bet it’s vitamin E.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?”

“Vitamin E.  E for Ethan.  It makes everything in life just a little better.”

“OK.  That’s hokey, but it’s appreciated.

“You know what I wish, Ethan?  I wish cars had bench seats again so I could slide up next to you.”

“You would?” he asked.

“Yep, I would.  I wouldn’t reach into your pants or anything, not while you were driving, but I’d sit next to you.”

“Well, you can sit next to me on the couch after you’ve showered.  We’re almost there.”

“Will we be naked?”

“That’s my plan.”  He turned the wheel and pulled into a duplex on Carter Avenue.  “Do you like dogs?”

“Yeah, I like them.  How big is yours?”

“Oh, I don’t have one,” he said.  “I was just asking.”  The garage door opened, and he pulled in.  It closed behind us and we were in the dark.  “I’d slide over to your side, but you’re still greasy.”

“Lead me to your shower, sir, and I will clean myself to your satisfaction.”

“I thought I was the boss here, but it seems that you may be.”

I laughed and started to open the car door when my phone began to vibrate.  I pulled it from my pocket.  I needed to text my parents that I was with Ethan.  My father was calling, and a text message from my mother said, “You need to come home.”

I answered the phone.  “Dad, what’s going on?”

“Your Uncle Steven is really sick.  Your mom and I are headed to the hospital, you need to come home and stay with Andy.  How soon can you head home?”

I looked over at Ethan.  He had already pressed the garage door opener.  “Ethan is driving me home now.”

“Thanks, son.  I’ll let you know what we find out when we get there.”

I closed the car door and Ethan drove us back to my house.  “Uncle Steve is Andy’s favorite.  Will you come in?”

“Sure,” Ethan nodded.  “But I don’t think I should stay long unless you need me to.”

As soon as I entered the house, Andy ran up to me and hugged me.  He’d been crying.  I hugged him, and we went into the living room.  He didn’t want to let go of me.  “What have you heard?”

Through his sobs, he said.  “Aunt Mary said he got really pale and fell and wouldn’t wake up.  An ambulance came and took him to the hospital.  What if he dies?”  Andy began to sob again.

“I don’t know.  We’ll have to wait to find out,” I told him.

“But what if he dies?  I don’t want him to die.”

“I know.  I know.  If he dies, he’ll be with Grandpa Eli, and we’ll be really glad that he’s with Grandpa, but we’ll be really sad that he’s not with us.  If he gets better, we’ll realize how much we love him and remind him that we do.  Why don’t we make some cocoa or hot tea to drink while we wait to hear from Dad?”

“OK.”

“Go into the bathroom and blow your nose and wash your face before you come into the kitchen to help me.  Which do you want?”

“Cocoa.”

“Toast, too?”

“Yeah.”  Andy hugged me again and went down the hall to the bathroom.

“What do you need?”  Ethan asked me as he wrapped his arms around me.

“That.  Exactly that.”

“I make some wicked mean hot chocolate.”

I looked up at him and smiled as I forced myself not to cry.
