Andrei interrupted her, wondering still on the reason for her sudden visit. It was, she said that a ball was planned at the Winter palace, and it was to be in Ancient Dress. The Imperial family were all to be dressed as figures from Russian History, The men as former Tsars, or Boyars (Landowners) and the ladies as famous Grand duchesses and Boyarinas.

Dmitri and Andrei were to be the Former as Boyars, with Sasha as personal bodyguard to Andrei and his brothers Kyril and Boris. The ladies would all wear jewelled Kokoshnik s (Russian peasant headdresses) allowing them to show off their finest jewels. the date chosen was dates in February.

The Ball was a great success with the performances and Dmitri like the ballerina Pavlova as he thought she was so delicate.

All too soon they were making their way back to the Vladimir palace and back in the room, accompanied by Sasha, all three worn out, Dmitri and Andrei climbed into bed together, Sasha having locked the door lay down on a chaise lounge and all three, partly because of the excitement, wine and enjoyment were soon fast asleep.
