I took a deep breath and gazed at the large sign. "Oak Preparatory Academy, A School for the Advanced." It read in red and black letters. Damn them all to hell! My parents honked from behind me, "Have a good day sweetie!" My mother called as they sped away. I walked through the large metal gates, "Guarded" by two large gargoyles. As I entered, I saw a large mass of students chatting and playing about in the courtyard. I saw a young man flying around as he dangled a scrawny young kid by his leg. "HELP! SOMEONE HELP!" He shouted. If that was a little weird for you, let me explain. Three out of every ten children will be born with some strange, supernatural ability, according to statistics. These beings are usually not accepted into society as natural citizens, so, they are sent to various academies near their homes. They are taught to control their powers and use them for good. Dammit! I've been reading that mission statement for too long. Yes, everyone at this academy has special abilities. "Hmm... So this is what high school is like, huh?" I muttered. I'm a sophomore, but I had been home-schooled for a while and I'm not really used to this... social environment. A hand rested on my shoulder. I looked to the left to see a young man, a little taller than me, was also staring at the large sign. "You new here too?" He asked. I shrugged his hand from my shoulder. "Yeah." He held his hands up in defense. "Why the hostility? It's my first day too, just tryin to make some friends." I rolled my eyes and ran a hand through my shoulder-length, brown hair. I reached into my pocket, pulled out a rubber band and began tying it up in a short ponytail. "What time does this hell-hole start up?" I asked in an irritated tone. The bell rang loudly, as if on queue. "Now." He smiled. "Hey! I never got your name!" He called as I began to my first class. "Eric. I''m Eric." I answered. He smiled. "Jackson." He grabbed my hand and shook it violently. I turned back and continued my trek to room 403. Mr. Edwin's class. When I entered, i could see some students sitting in their places. The classroom was strange. It was covered in pictures of maps, globes, presidents.... World history... I just hope they don't make a big deal of me being new and start trying to introduce me to the entire fucking cla- "Are you new here?" A loud man boomed from behind me. I turned to see a man in a dress shirt and khakis and a pair of glasses. "Yes." He looked down and grabbed my schedule from my hand. He seemed to be examining it thoroughly. "Everyone!" God dammit. "Please welcome Eric Bryant to the class!" Fuck. I smiled nervously and walked to a seat in the back of the class. The rest of the class had whizzed by. He lectured us on the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire, the strengths and weaknesses of the Mongolians blah blah blah... As I picked up my stuff, preparing to leave the class, Mr.Edwin stopped me. "You're just in time. Today is power demonstration day." He smiled comfortingly. I nodded and continued to walk out of class. FUCK. I forgot. I can't believe this. I remember reading the email clear as day. "Thursday, December 12th is power demonstration day. Students will demonstrate their abilities in their gym class..." I don't remember the rest. That was the one part that stuck out. I had spent the entire day scared and shaking. When second, third and fourth hour had passed, it was lunch time. "Dammit... Next period." I thought. I wasn't even hungry. i sat at a far table in the back beside a vending machine. A kid in black jeans and a tight black t-shirt walked up to me. "Hey, I'm Ray. You must be the new kid." He said. The 'New Kid'? Does everyone know or something? He laughed. "I know what you're thinking, everyone's talking about you because of your eyes. They're... beautiful." He smiled. I batted my amethyst purple eyes at him. Ray was tall and skinny. He had long black hair that covered his eyes. "I'm Eric. You got a power or something?" I felt deep stupidity after asking such a dumb question. "Actually, I do. I can control people's minds and make them see illusions created by me. I squinted my eyes in suspicion. "Prove it." I folded my arms. "Well, in reality, I haven't even met you yet. I'm still over there." He pointed to a spot and my eyes instantly followed. i saw him sitting there at a table full of people. He looked up and waved at me, beginning to walk over. I looked back to where he was originally standing. Nothing was there. Someone touched my back. I turned to see Ray, again, smiling at me. "Something tells me we can skip the introductions?"
