The Male Muse Review

Mark Alan is a photographer who loves shooting sexy men in erotic and fully nude sessions. He has been photographing male nudes over the decades and loves celebrating the beauty, power, and sensuality of men. He launched The Male Muse in January of 2023, and we’re just getting our first look at this site packed with beautiful men.

The men here are sexy and mostly appear to be models I’ve never seen before, although I did find gay porn performers Brett Tyler and Vadim Romanov here. There may be others, but most of the models appear to be single-name amateur men. They are usually in good shape with athletic and gym-fit bodies, and while there are plenty of chiseled physiques, none of the men are overly muscled, nor did I see any bodybuilders. You'll find some men are clean shaven while others are bearded, some have smooth bodies while others are hairy, and some are tattooed while others have no ink. There are Caucasian, Latin, and Black men here, and they appear to range throughout their twenties an thirties, but some may be a bit older. Overall, they’re a good-looking bunch of men, a little something for every taste.

This site has a focus on photography, so let’s begin there, although if you can jump down to the discussion about the videos. The photography section called Series is separated into six sections. Junk Shots features cocks and balls; Fetish offers us gear, submission, pits, feet and sneakers, and a few other kinks; Bodyscapes displays photos using creative shots of the male body; Polaroids brings the photographer’s Polaroid collection from the early 2000s to the Web; Narcissus features naked men looking at themselves in mirrors; and Experimental plays with long-exposure times, unusual lighting, and other non-mainstream ideas. There are over 200 galleries total.

Each section displays giant thumbnails in a collage that runs the length of the page, and some of these are quite long. If there are 153 pictures in a series, you’ll get a preview of all of them. You can click the photos to enlarge them, and they appear in a viewer with forward and back controls, but there’s no slideshow feature. You can save the pictures one at a time and you’ll get an enlarged photo in various sizes, two that are common are 2400x1600 and 1600x1600, but there may be other sizes. These a very good quality photos, and they come both as black and white or color, and some of the series allow you to sort the pictures into either format.

The Polaroids section has a Visit Store link where you can buy these images as emulsion transfers, which is a form of image printing where the original Polaroid photo is transferred onto fine art watercolor paper. These, of course, are not included in your membership and cost you extra. Other sections like Experimental lets you sort the images by the various techniques, like long exposure or digital manipulation, for example, and the Junk section gives you the option to focus on hard cocks, soft dicks, balls, precum, and other attributes.

There’s also a Muses section that displays over 160 individual model photo shoots, however several models have done more than one session with the photographer. Each of these galleries gives you the model’s name and the date of the shoot or date it was added to the site - I’m not sure which. These galleries feature 12 to 15 or so photos of each model and they are both clothed and nude, and some of the explicit ones also feature erections, but not all do.

The Male Muse also offers 43 videos found in several sections. Under the After Dark XXX section, you’ll find 13 videos. One features two men fucking and another called Brojob has a bearded hunk sucking a blond’s cock. The remaining videos are solo jack-off sessions, usually with cumshots, although I didn’t watch every one. Under Erotica you’ll find two videos that feature nudity and sex (one is masturbation only, the other has two men having sex); however, both of these are heavily manipulated with split-screens, animation effects, and other filters and techniques that give them an artistic flare. There are another 28 videos under Behind the Scenes and I’m not sure why they’re labelled as such because they seemed pretty self contained with the men jacking off. Alan does say that sometimes a model got so horny during the photo shoot that he wanted to crank one out, so I guess that explains it.
 
As far as updates go, TheMaleMuse says they add two new Muse Galleries weekly, and these are the sessions featuring one model each. They also add an additional gallery weekly to the Series section, and these could be added to any of the sub-sections like Junk Shots, Bodyscapes, etc. I have no information about how often videos are added because they aren’t dated. The site opened in January 2023 and has grown to over 200 galleries. July saw 11 updates, August had five, and September had nine, so with the exception of the update slump in August, the site mostly lives up to its promises.

Members and non-members get access to a blog that features not only pictures of recent releases, but the photographer talks about the guys and their photography sessions. It’s hot stuff. In his most recent post called Lasan’s Huge Load, he says, “He slowly teased himself with one hand and explored everywhere else with the other. When he couldn’t take it any longer he let me know he was going to blow.” His writing is just as good as his photography, and it’s a nice complement.

Are there any drawbacks? At the time we reviewed the site, the pages loaded normally on desktop computers, but extremely slowly on phones; pages took 20 seconds or so to fully load. We let the site owner know, and they're working on it - hopefully by the time you read this, this will have been fixed. I would love to see more videos, but TheMaleMuse bills itself as a fine art photography site, so the 43 videos we get are a plus and the monthly membership is quite inexpensive. The models don’t have any profile pages, so we don’t know anything about them. However, there is the blog where Alan talks about the odd model and his photoshoot. Finally, there’s no profile on Mark Alan himself which is unfortunate because I did want to know more about him.
