What is video quality?

Our video quality score refers to the visual quality of a video and video related factors.

Definition

The Video Quality score is based on factors such as the visual quality of a video such as sharpness, clarity, lighting but also other potential issues and functionality. Our main concern is how good the videos look at their original size and when enlarged.

The total maximum score for videos is 20 points.

Here are the main point that we take into account when deciding on a the video score:

  • High Quality: 14 points
    Sharp, clear, professionally-lit videos that can be enlarged on any size screen without losing any sharpness or clarity.

  • Good quality: 12 points
    Video is sharp, clear and well-lit with no issues.

  • Average or Amateur Quality: 10 points
    Less sharpness and clarity than good quality videos, may lose quality when enlarge to full screen or vids may not be well-lit or include jostling to the camera.

  • Vintage quality: 8 points
    Videos that are at least 20 years old and were shot on film or with older video camcorders, so they are sized smaller than modern videos with less color saturation and sharpness. We do not recommend enlarging these.

  • Poor quality: 6 points
    Videos are blurry, lack saturation or have other significant issues at their original size.  We do not recommend enlarging these.

  • Production value:
    Whether the lighting, camera work and direction (if any) are well-done or if they are lacking in some area.

    • 2 points - Good lighting, guys and action are are shown well in videos

    • 1 point - Decent lighting, videos are shot on stationary cameras or have poor lighting or minor camera work work

    • 0 points - Poor camera work that can interfere with seeing the guys and action, very dark videos

  • Downloadable videos:
    Are video downloads available, and do they play without issue?

    • 2 points - Downloadable videos included with membership

    • 1 point - Download not included with membership but are available with additional payment

    • 0 points - No downloadable videos available at all.

  • Streaming:
    Videos stream without issues and player is fully featured?

    • 2 points - Streaming works well with no issues

    • 1 point - Poor Streaming (jerky or stretched videos), limited streaming options or no streaming at all.

    • 0 points - No streaming available at all.

  • Mobile Compatible:
    Do the videos play and resize correctly on mobiles and smaller devices? 

    • 1 point - Videos are fully mobile compatible and play without issues

    • 0 points - Video do not work or display badly on mobile devices
