Chapter 1

Caleb

"CALEB!!! YOU"RE GONNA BE LATE!!!" is the first thing I hear in the morning. I look at my phone and see that I've only over slept for 10 minutes. "I'm UP!" I yell back to my dad and lay in the bed for a couple more minutes with a raging morning wood. I throw away the sheets and spend the next 20 minutes in the bathroom doing my morning business.

After gulping down my breakfast and kissing my mom goodbye, I ride my bike to the school. I reach just in time with only few minutes before the bell. I head to my first class of my miserable day at school. As I enter I see someone sitting in my place. I walk up to him to confront him but for a second I looked at him in the eye and I got captivated by this beautiful creature. Okay, now he's easily the cutest guy in the room, but I was not going to let him take my spot. I start walking towards and every eye in the room is on us.

"Are you new here?"

He looks up at me with a big smile and extends his hand. "Hi! Yes, I'm..."

Just then I cut him off and say "You're on my seat."

I could see the hurt in his eyes when he said nothing and went to sit at the back of the class. Throughout the class, I felt guilty for being an ass to someone who probably just wanted a friend. And the guy was cute enough to get away with a murder! But nooooooooo, I had to rip it all and set fire to the one chance of having a friend I always wanted to have. I mean a... boyfriend. I had never heard any rumors about anyone being gay, so I always thought that the only way I can find another gay guy was if someone now came in. I was socially well established at school, good in sports (I played volleyball and practiced kick boxing after school) and had a steady girlfriend for two years. But I liked guys more than I did girls and that new kid was so cute. Also, Nicole was sometimes selfish and always busy with school projects and other stuffs. The only time we went out or spent time together was during weekend ad that too if she was not busy.

My mind drifted back to the new kid and I couldn't help but feel bad for him. I mean he looked really happy and I was the reason for the hurt look in his eyes. So I decided to make it up to him during lunch. Yeah, that felt good, except I don't know how to do that.

I saw him in two other classes and in both of them he maintained a distance from me, occasionally talking to other kids. Finally lunch time rolled and I was sitting with Krish, Paolo and Cyral, and as usual Nicole is nowhere to be seen. Krish, Paolo and I had been the three men wolf pack since the first grade. Cyral joined us two years ago, but quickly became one of us. And though we are pretty close and they all were good looking guys, all three of them were straight.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the new kid walk in with a bag and sit alone at the other side of the cafeteria. I took a deep breath and thought "Okay, this is it." I excused myself from the guys and walked towards the boy. As usual, Krish said something to make fun of me, which I ignored because I was busy checking out this guy. He looked about my height, may be an inch shorter, slim figure, silky brown hair and spotless fair complexion. He was sitting there with his earphones plugged into his ears so he was not aware of me and was surprised to see me standing in front of him.

"Hi" I said.

"Am I sitting in your place again?" ouch that was unexpected.

"Umm... no, I'm here just to talk. I saw you sitting here al..."

"I don't need anyone to pity me. Okay?"

I was completely at loss for words, so I thought I'd just apologize for earlier and leave. "I just wanted to apologize for earlier. So, I'm sorry." I stood up to leave when he said, "Wait... I'm sorry too. I was just mad at you, I guess."

"That's fine." And I started to walk away when he said "I thought you wanted to talk?" I turned around and saw he was smiling again and I felt stomach in my butterflies... ah um I mean butterflies in my stomach. "I'm Edwin, you can call me Ed." he said extending his hand. I quickly took it and said "Caleb. And welcome to our school." From then, there was no more awkwardness and we started talking freely. I learned that his dad was a high rank officer in military and was recently posted here, which was the reason for him having to change school in the middle of the term. He also told me that they moved from place to place every few years ad he was used to not having close friends. I felt bad for him and wanted to say something to make him feel better, but I was interrupted by Nicole.

"Caleb, I turned the whole school upside down and you're sitting here. C'mon I need you to come with me." See? She didn't even bothered to say hi to Ed. Did I mention that she's self-centered? So I told Ed, "Nicole, this is Ed, he just transferred here. And Ed, this is Nicole, my girlfriend." Then we said our good byes and I left with Nicole, all the while thinking about the brown haired boy.

As it turned out, Nicole wanted me to help her with the annual school dance which was two months away and she had already planned everything as the head student of the organizing committee. I tried really hard to get away, but I was doomed to participate. I was to help with the clean up after the program. As I made my way back to the class, because lunch was almost over and I didn't want to do extra walking, I thought may be the guys will join me and it won't be as boring. I didn't see much of Ed after that and before I knew it, school was over and I went home really fast and headed to the gym.
