OK, I am ready. As I said to myself that morning. Went in for an interview the previous week, and they wanted me start immediately.

“Daniel, sorry my meeting took a bit longer than expected, everything still alright”

“Yes, everything is good. I met some of staff members who introduced themselves and heard a few good stories so far, but I think I would enjoy working here.”

He had such a cheeky grin on him, I could not grasp what he meant by the stories he heard. Hope it was not about me.

We got going and then I formally introduced him. All the girl clerks and other two managers were giggling like small children with a new toy. I was just like really, and what I heard next, I nearly choked on my own breathing.

The girls were almost falling over Daniel, when he said “Sorry ladies, I don’t do girls. I am into guys”

The look on their faces, was priceless. So we moved on to the other partners and then at days end told him “Ok, so any other more questions, I am here, just come and ask, but its almost 5 o’clock and time to go home. We greeted and left.

For once I felt that coming to the office would be great again.

As I got home, getting to front door, my smile just fell away. My brother Steve was waiting for me. Great, it really is a blue Monday.

“What are you doing here Steve?”

“Well, seeing as my little brother does not pick up his fucking phone, or the good manners to phone me back, thought I would come in person to see if he is ok, as I am so worried about him, seeing that he does not feel anything, or just the damn little sense of just texting me I am ok.”

“I am sorry ok. I just did not know how to handle it. I should have called you back. I am sorry.”

I started crying and my big brother just held me and soothed me.

So, Steve and I discussed what happened, and the after mass at the house when I left.

“William, I told mom, she will not see me or her grandchildren ever again if she did not come and apologise. Which I know she did not, because Tom told her probably not too.”

“Its ok Steve, I am over it.”

And he just gave me hug, and said he needed to get back to Jess and the kids.

“You better pick up that fucking phone when I call, or I will send Jess to come sort you out.”

“I will, drive safe. Give my love to Jess and the little ones.”

And so Steve drove home, and I went for a shower and back to bed.

The week went by very quickly, for once. And I saw times Daniel, watching me. I thought nothing of it. Its Friday, and I am just going to chill at home. Just as I saw, Daniel, was standing next to asking me about my plans for the weekend, my phone started to ring. As I looked it was Steve. Better answer it or else. So I answered, quickly chatted with my brother and then put the phone down. As I was just to say what plans were, Daniel just said he had to go. I was just like, ok. Have a good evening and weekend and he walked to his desk. I thought, you were talking to me before the phone call and now suddenly not. He is so going to regret it. I stood up and walked over to him.

As we talking about the plans for the weekend, William’s phone rang, and I accidentally saw the caller ID, a Steve. Damn probably his boyfriend. I have one rule, don’t mess with a couple. So after he hanged up the phone, I said my goodbyes and went back to my desk.

As I sat there, I just saw William walking over to me, and he looked irritated. As he got to my desk he started talking:

“I know you saw my caller ID on the phone. Steve is my brother. So, if you like me, just ask me out. But don’t be a dick about it and just be rude and leave in the middle of conversation, since you don’t have all the information.”

And he just left the office.
