review of Twinkscape, 2010-07-29

Twinkscape caught my interest right off the bat with a bit of a parody tone. In their explanation of the concept (and really, how many porn sites even put enough thought into their site concept to bother with an explanation?) they mention that this is a story of twink roommates who have a video camera delivered and decide they are going to make a porn site. So each video is shot both by one of the twinks in the scene AND by a professional camera man. Makes for an interesting mix of POV and regular gay porn. We first visited this site when it was new, and now it's had 6 months to grow, let's take a look at what's new inside Twinkscape!

The design of Twinkscape is amateur and colorful, with a top navigation bar and episode listings running down. There are 37 exclusive episodes currently on the site, which is 24 episodes more than on our last visit. There have been several important changes at Twinkscape. The good news - all the more recent videos are shot in HD, the more recent pics are digital stills rather than vidcaps. The other important change is that the site now updates every 3 weeks, rather than once a week.

The videos come in three different formats and include both downloadable and streaming options. The newer WMVs are shown at 960x540 at 1.56 Mbps, and these are good amateur quality. The older WMVs have a size of 640x360 with an approx 1.7 Mbps bitrate, and these videos are sharp and clear. The Quicktime videos are the same size and quality, while the MP4 versions are shown at 320x240 but letterboxed so they'll have the same dimensions. All the videos are full scenes with good sound quality. For those who want to stream the videos, you can select the link that says 1500 to watch the WMVs rather than download them. Most of the videos average around 20 - 25 minutes long use no DRM.

The episodes all come with photo sets. Since our last visit, all the more recent episodes come with good amateur quality digital stills shown at 600x750. The oldest pics are average to good quality vidcaps, and size varied from a rather small 480x270 to 720x480. All the pic sets are a bit on the small side with 24 photos per gallery, but they do capture the majority of the hardcore twink fucking that happens in the scenes.

Like the concept page mentions, there are two different, distinct views with each video. Most of the plotline, scenario, and set up takes place on wonderfully high quality HD cams, and once the action gets started you'll see a switch to POV style, with the camera in the hands of the twink. The HD cam is still going, so you'll get to see wide shots of the action. It's a nice idea that really works out well for Twinkscape. It's also worth mentioning that there are some very cute - and very horny - guys inside the site, and in my opinion the newer episodes seem to have cuter boys and hotter action.

Overall I'd say Twinkscape is doing a good job delivering on their promises. The twink roommates are horny and having a lot of fun with their videos, and the action itself is hot. I also the DRM-free downloadable videos in 3 formats. Using 2 cameras for this kind of reality video is interesting, and it's nice to see the action from more than one agle. The site has had some changes - bigger videos, better pics and less updates, as the updates now happen every 3 weeks rather than every week as on our last visit.
