GayDemon's review of Pat and Sam

Pat and Sam is one of the longer-running true amateur websites out there. The guys in their videos aren't pornstars, and many are obviously doing their first porn shoot - although there are plenty of guys who come back to do more shoots, and I'm sure a few have gone on to do porn for other sites. The site is old-school, with no frills or bells and whistles, but personally I'm not worried about that. What I focus on is all those amateur guys jacking off - and occasionally interacting with other amateur models. And Pat and Sam have plenty of them!

The member area and the tour are pretty similar - black page with various colored links on the left. In the member area, updates, episodes and DVDs for sale are listed on the right. The content ilnks on the menu are UPDATES and VIDEOS & PICTURES, and WOODPILE seems to be pics from other sites, served up with a liberal helping of ads.

There are 2 full years of updates listed in the updates pages - 53 videos added in 2006 and 32 videos added in 2007, which isn't over yet. This adds up to 1 video (with pics) added to the site each week very regularly. There were also a few pic sets that were added without vids. And keep in mind that this isn't all the Pat and Sam videos and pic sets - there are more from before 2 years ago.

The VIDEOS & PICTURES section is actually a model index. I counted 145 models there, organized alphabetically. And let me tell you, there are some hotties there! Each guy is displayed by a thumb with a little info about him above it, a brief description on the right and 3 links further to the right. To see the content, click See Pics & Videos to the right of the model you want to see.

The videos here are WMVs that can be streamed or downloaded. Some vids are offered in 2 parts, others in a single full scene, and most videos are offered in both high-speed and dial-up. All the high-speed videos are shown at 320x240 with speed varying. The more recent vids have a bitrate of around 512k where some of the older ones are more like 242k and some of the ones in between have a bitrate that's between the two. The older dialup clips are small but I saw newer ones at 264k, which isn't really suitable for dialup users.

Some of the pic sets at Pat and Sam are vidcaps, some are digital stills. The digital stills are mostly shown at 400x534, which is a smallish medium size, and the vidcaps are shown at 640x480. Both vidcaps and digital stills are amateur quality - some good amateur quality. No slideshows or zip files are offered, however you can download your favorite pics by right cilcking and saving as.

Just so you know, the links that say Amateur Movie Titles or anything regarding "Movie Tities" leads outside the site to a place to buy DVDs. There is a link to movie titles on every model's page, so keep an eye our for those.

Let's talk quality. The older videos here are definitely amateur quality, and not good enough to enlarge. But the newer videos look pretty good at their original size, and if you're not picky, they're doable when you go full screen with them, as long as you expect a loss of quality. For those - like me - who feel that bigger is better, most of the vids don't look too bad when enlarged to 200%, although some of the oldest ones didn't look good enlarged.

There is a lot of variety of models here - models vary from horny twink boys to muscular military men to somewhat mature amateurs and everything in between. These aren't pornstars - these are guys who have day jobs and had a fantasy about making a porn video, so they're very turned on during the shoots. And I felt the interactions and interviews where the camera man talks with the models is well handled and adds to the videos.

There are a couple issues I have with the site. One is that you can't search the content if you want to see all the videos or all the pics - you can only search by model. This was pretty frustrating if you want to see the oldest sets because you can't do it without searching every model. The other issue is that every page inside Pat and Sam has a link to buy DVDs - but honestly that's easy to avoid if you're not interested.

Although I'm not in love with 320x240 videos, Pat and Sam charges a fairly low membership price so the site does give very good value for the money. It appears they are hoping that those who join and see all their guys in action will want to buy DVDs. Personally I'd have preferred to to pay more per month and see bigger, higher quality videos, but I liked the videos here enough to be able to recommend the site to anyone who isn't a size/quality fiend.

The bottom line is that Pat and Sam has a lot going for it! While the models are definitely amateur and so is the photography, it's very good amateur stuff without the bad lighting and other issues that are all too common in many amateur guy sites. With over 140 real amateur models, close to 200 videos, regular updates and reasonable subscription prices, you just can't go wrong. Pat and Sam has a lot to offer those who love watching amateur guys jack off!
