review of Gay Yappo, 2010-03-20

Looking for a site with over 1600 gay DVD titles from over 150 studios? If so, look no further because the site I'm describing is Gay Yappo. Gay Yappo has an almost ridiculous amount of gay porn videos - we're talking well over 4000 scenes here from such studios as Pistol Media, Hot Desert Knights, Pig Daddy Productions, Legend and Dudelodge, to name just a few. And you can browse every title, category and studio without signing up so you know what they have to offer.

Gay Yappo is not a subscription website - it's a VOD site, which stands for Video on Demand and means they charge you only for what you watch. This can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how many hours of porn videos you watch per week or month. If you only watch an hour every couple weeks, this is probably going to be less expensive than joining a membership site. VOD sites are also a pretty good option if you're concerned with rebills on your credit card. All you do is buy an amount of time - they have several options - and then use only as much as you want. You can use all your minutes now or save some for later.

Most of the Gay Yappo DVDs have multiple scenes with a total run time of over an hour - often over an hour and a half, although I did find a few with only one scene or under half an hour. You can watch the entire DVD, browse the DVD or watch individual scenes. When I say you can browse, that's because the videos are progressive, which means you can fast-forward to anywhere in the DVD without waiting for it to fully load.

Each Gay Yappo video are offered WMV format in 5 speeds/sizes ranging from dialup to what they call HD. The highest quality is called HD and it is shown between 640x480 with a 1.49 Mbps bitrate to 800x600 with a 2.04 Mbps bitrate. They are good amateur quality or better depending on the source video, and are definitely the one to watch or download if you want to go full screen. The other speeds range from a fairly good broadband down to dialup.

Now let's talk selection. Gay Yappo has offers several ways to browse their DVD titles. They offer THE biggest list of gay porn categories that I've ever seen, including the regular niches like 18 And Legal, bear and hardcore as well as some categories you don't see as much like Parody and Big Butt. There's a good collection of classic porn including John Holmes' only gay video. There's also a section called Gay Wrestling that included videos with men grappling other men. For those into themed attire, there are several categories - military, costume, cop and cowboys.

Gay Yappo has studio list of at least 150 studios. There's also a list of pornstars, although I found several video stars in their site who aren't listed on that list but do appear in movies listed on the site. For those who aren't sure what to watch or check out first, on the right side of the main page are the most popular vids, top strudios and the new releases.

The videos inside Gay Yappo do use DRM, which is normal for a VOD site. Unlike some sites that use DRM, you can burn these to disk and also share them with other computers and handheld devices for the duration of the license, which is one day.

I had 2 complaints about the site. One is thast they usually list which stars are in the DVDs, but they don't list which star is in which scene. And my other issue is that at the top of every page inside Gay Yappo it says there are over 32,000 movies from 750 studios. That's not exactly true. The straight and gay versions of Yappo combined offer those numbers - you won't find that many vids or studios inside Gay Yappo. Still, there's a lot more to see here than there are in most other sites.

Whether you're looking for a massive library of gay porn or you're looking for a VOD site, Gay Yappo is a good option. With large downloadable movies, over 1500 DVD titles and good search options, and though Gay Yappo has no pic sets or other bonus content, with over 4000 scenes, it really doesn't need any. It does have a special offer that gives new users 10 free minutes but one still has to input their credit card in order to claim those minutes. Still, the site has a huge list of categories, stars and studios, and I think anyone into gay porn who wants to pay as they go should be sure and check out Gay Yappo!
