GayDemon's review of Gay Download Key

Gay Download Key is a video site that offers members access to a collection of full gay porn DVDs. You can preview all the DVDs and see the stars, running time and see some preview screencaps. There are plenty of gay niches to search through or you can search by title or scene or studio. Gay Download Key makes some claims on the tour - they say the member area offers 500+ DVDs and a new DVD added every day. They also say their movies are fully downloadable and are available in several resolutions. It's been a while since our last visit, so join me as I log in and see what's new at Gay Download Key.

The member home page is easy to navigate, and starts thing off with the latest updates. The site was bought fairly recently, and while it had stopped updating for a long time, the last 14 updates are each exactly a week apart, the most recent one added less than a week ago. There are 170 DVD total, so the site hasn't grown much in the last 3 1/2 years ago despite the recent updates. On the up side, there are a variety of ways to browse the DVD's - by category, most downloaded, top rated, new releases. Plus you can browse by scene, and there's a search box at the upper left corner and dropdowns to search by studio and niche.

The videos are DRM-free, and are offered in 3 broadband sizes - DVD Quality, High Resolution and Low Resolution. All videos are WMVs and can be downloaded or streamed. The Hi vids are offered at 640x480 with a bitrate of 1.4 Mbps, high quality vids are shown at 512x384 with a bitrate of 450k, and low quality vids are offered at 320x240 with a bitrate of 350k, which is very close to the medium vids and too hefty for dialup users but perfect for those on slower broadband connections. Most of the videos are above average quality, and play smoothly with good sound - although quality of sound and image depends on the original DVD quality.

Since the Gay Download Key videos are made by a variety of producers, and include both professional and amateur content, production values vary. Some of the videos in the site are on the older side, and include some late 80's and 90's stuff by such stars as Tom Katt and Paul Carrigan. There's also some titles that have made it into the budget section of most video stores, like 976-Cumm and Grapplin. The bottom line is there's a lot of variety in the titles here, and you may run into some you've seen before or that look a bit dated.

A word here about the categories and the search feature. I couldn't find muscle on the category list - there's no bodybuilders, no muscle, no hunk category so I searched the terms muscle and got 2 results, and got no results for the terms bodybuilder, straight and cumshot. Then I tried searching the the term cum and got 4 results - not impressive since I'm sure every one of the DVD's here has cum in it. It appears that the only terms added to each DVD are the ones from the category list. Also some categories, including Bear and Asian, offer less than 5 DVD's total, while categories like Anal and Twink have lots.

Does the site have any issues? First off, the site promises daily updates but delivers weekly updates. Next, although the site updates, it doesn't seem to get any bigger. And there are a couple issues when it comes to joining - the join page has pre-checked offers on them (also called cross sales) that you'll want to read before joining. It's also worth mentioning that trial subscriptions rebill at $10 more than the cost of a regular membership. And last, according to the site's terms, trial members don't get full site access.

With 730 scenes from 170 DVDs, Gay Download Key has a lot to offer members. While the site does not seem to offer the number of DVDs and scenes that the tour claims, the movies here are pretty good quality, downloadable and DRM-free. The site claims to add a new DVD every day, but in reality adds a DVD once a week, which still isn't bad.
