Gay Amateur Sex is one of those sites that have me hoping one thing once I hit the tour. I hope that it doesn't look like the tour in the member's area... and I'm hoping this because I am just assailed with all sorts of busy things once I hit the tour. Unfortunately, not only is it exactly the same, they have managed to make it more busy. There are random non clickable images apparently showing you what you'll get to see inside, along with an update box that just looks kind of tacked into the design. Nestled at the top of the screen are the bonus sites - we'll get to those later.
Once I hit the episode listings, the design doesn't get much better. Gay Amateur Sex has seen it fit to make the preview thumbs giant, and although I do enjoy being able to get a good preview on things, I don't like having to scroll down a ton in order to go from episode to episode. There are 21 episodes here, and no indication on whether or when it's going to update. Every episode has a photo set (not vidcaps) and a video, so although it seems like a smallish number maybe I'll get blown away.
There are two different options for viewing videos - you can stream a WMV in three different speeds, or you can download the full speed. While I waited on the full download, I took a look at the highest streaming quality. If you stream a video, the first one will always force you to login. The video was 640x480 and 800 kbps, which isn't bad although it could be better. It wasn't the smoothest video or the least blurry that I've watched. I checked on the download next and wasn't thrilled with what I found. The downloaded versions are 320x240 and 300 kbps. What the hell is that? The photo sets aren't too bad, but they are on the small side at 300x500 and 40 photos per set. I also wasn't thrilled by the lightbox effect they decided to add in instead of a slideshow or zip files.
The bonuses help to dull the pain a bit - at least until I had to login 8 more times. Since it's rather obvious Gay Amateur Sex is just intended to be a throwaway site in a bigger network (at least that's the impression I got) they could at least have made it easy to get to the bonus sites. You get 4 other sites that these guys run, with the exact same layout (yay....) and 32 third party feeds.
To say I was disappointed with Gay Amateur Sex is the understatement of the year. I don't know what part annoyed me more - not knowing when it updates, the smallish size and iffy quality of the downloadable videos, the lack of content, the lightbox, or the inability to seamlessly explore the bonus sites. One thing or another wouldn't be too bad, but when they are combined in one Voltron-like machine of suck, it's hard to find a lot positive to say here. I do have to say that if the quality would have been better on the videos, I would have been more enthusiastic with no problem. The guys are certainly great, and the action did pretty good at turning me on. It's just the issues that make Gay Amateur Sex a letdown.
