Today we're checking out Gaydar, a gay personals / dating / hookup site with a nice looking design and easy to use layout. This site lets men search for gay or bi men or couples (or groups). Like most similar sites, to use the site you must sign up for a free membership. And just like most personals sites, when you sign up, you have to create a profile. It's not a difficult process, and you're able to hurry through your profile and fine-tune it later, if you like. Once you've signed up, you will receive a confirmation email that also gives you your own profile page link so you can give it to friends or email it to acquaintances if you want. Once you're signed up, you can start searching for guys or perfect your profile.
After doing my first search, I found that the men here describe themselves well, and a number who fit my search parameters really did. Some were looking for friends, some for relationships, and some for fuck buddies or quickies, and a surprising number were open to whatever came along. I can't explain it, but there were a lot of nice - and sexy - men on this site. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure there are nice, sexy men on lots of sites, but I found a higher number than usual here that either were to my taste or something about the site helped them express themselves better.
While you're browsing the site, you have the option to listen to Gaydio, which is basically internet radio. Not only can you listen to music, but since Gaydar is based in the UK, you can search for topics and listen to clips from the regular BBC stations as well. BTW, I'm not in the UK, but don't worry - Gaydar has members from all over the world, not just the UK.
What can free members do at Gaydar? They can send up to 8 messages per day, receive unlimited messages. They can view 30 profiles per day, have up to 6 photos in their profile and access 5 chat rooms. Paid members can send unlimited messages, have more pics in their profile, view unlimited profiles, view XXX photos and videos. Paid members can do detailed searches and have more than 1 GPS location (handy if you regularly visit other cities). One other thing about the paid memberships is that they cost less than half the price of some of the larger, corporate personals sites - and the three month membership costs what some sites charge for a one-month memberships.
One last thing about free vs paying members is that paying members can do more detailed searches. That being said, I was pretty happy with the free search, which delivered very good results. But if you're picky or want to add search parameters not offered to free members, it might be worth paying to join.
I really liked Gaydar. Not only are there lots of hot and really interesting guys there, but navigation is easy and intuitive, you can easily edit your profile if you want to change your privacy settings or preferences. While free members do see ads on the site, they're not intrusive nor are they adult. And while the site does want you to join as a paying member, they're not aggressive about it as some sites are. In fact, I liked pretty much everything about Gaydar, and consider it one of the best gay personals sites around.
