Today we're taking a look at the gay section of Fling. Fling is a hook-up and personals site, and the gay version recognized my area immediately and put up pics of guys who live near me on the very first page I saw. And there were all kinds of guys - white guys, Latinos and black guys, twinks, hunks and average dudes. There were pics of guys near me showing their faces, upper bodies or asses, muscled torsos, selfies and ab shots. I enjoyed the way the site offered local guys when I first arrived - I thought it was fun and interesting, so I signed up for a free membership.
The first thing I did after validating my membership was do a search (of course!). As a free member, I was able to search by age range, sexual preference (I chose gay), whether I was searching for women, men, couples or trannies, country and city. The the far right, the basic search options include Online Now, Videochatting, Users with Photos, and Verified Photos. Paying members get more options, although not as many as I've seen in other personals sites.
Let's talk about free versus paid memberships. Free members can do basic searches and browse members, as well as sort results by distance, most recent login, photo count and most popular, but can only see small profiles, and can't see member pics without upgrade. Free members can send a wink or a "Quick Chat" message, and can also briefly view Video Chat, although not take part; after a couple minutes, you must upgrade to see more. There are 2 levels of paid membership - Gold and Silver - but while the Gold memberships cost more than the Silver, I couldn't find any info on what Gold memberships included that Silver memberships didn't.
Here's something I have a real issue with. Even though I was on the Fling gay site and signed up as a man looking for men, the upsell page has a chick holding a credit card and flirting with you in a video, and the live cam link is to Live Girls. It got obvious pretty quickly that this site is dedicated to guys looking for women and couples, and that bisexual men may find more to keep them busy than gay men or bi men looking only for men. In fact, most of the men who were listed in my searches were looking for men and women or men, women and couples - only a few of the first several pages were men looking for men.
And that leads me to a few more things. I live by West Hollywood in the middle of Los Angeles, and usually I find lots of local guys on personals sites. This one offered up over 9000 results, however of all those guys, as far as I could tell there was 1 (count 'em, one) guy online in my area. And that leads to another thing - basic search includes the option to search for guys who are online now, but that doesn't seem to work. I got 180 results, but only 1 guy had the "online now" icon under his profile.
Fling's gay site didn't deliver as much in the way of gay men as I was hoping for. You may do better if you're bisexual or bi-curious, as many of the men in my searches were experimental or actively interested in men AND women. And that's okay if you're looking for semi-straight guys or men who want to try it all. For those looking for gay men or bi guys looking for men, I suggest you try the free trial first and see if your search results include the kind of men either online or in your area that you're looking for.
