What is pegging?
The anal penetration by another person, wearing a strap on dildo, where generally the person wearing the strap on is female, the receiver usually male, or female.
Definition
This is the penetration of the rectum or anal sex, but a person wearing a strap-on dildo, that resembles a penis, and is worn around the waist, at the same level as a penis.
The phrase was originally coined for heterosexual practice, of a woman penetrating their male partner's anus. Lesbians also use similar devices.
'Pegging' is however, the actual act itself, of penetration of a man's anus by someone (usually a woman) using a strap on dildo.
History
The name was a winning entry, in 2001, in a straight sex column, where the contest was to find a name for the practice of a women penetrating their male partner's anus. Prior to having a name, the act was depicted in the movie, Myra Breckinridge in the 1970's.
About
There are some variations, to pegging. While it is generally where a woman will put a strap on, on, then engage in anal sex with her straight male partner, additions can be made.
Some devices will include a butt plug, so that while the female is being the top, penetrating the male, her own rectal region is being stimulated by a butt plug.
A dildo, regular or vibrating has also been known to be used both anally, while engaging in penetration, as well as vaginally. In fact, some enjoy the sensation of penetrating the male, while at the same time, having the feeling of being penetrated.
Practice (Associated Acts): In some instances, it is used as a substitute by a man, due to their inability to perform sexually, or in being a receiving partner, due to their inability to perform the supposed natural act of penetration themselves. This can be due to illness, physical disabilities.

Other explanations are that the male is curious, that the rectal region is sensitive, and he is willing to be stimulated this way, only by his female partner, thus avoiding the perceived stigma associated with anal penetration of a male.
