Old fashioned dare, among teenagers, to go moon a teacher, or the cheerleaders as part of a form of raunchy fun. Modern society has made baring one's buttocks a taboo, or unacceptable, which led to mooning being a form of rebellion. GAUCHO was another more sophisticated term for 'mooning'.
