What is jus primae noctis?

What is jus primae noctis?

'The Lord's right' which is an alleged ancient law, referring to the right of a rich property holder, a Lord, to take the virginity of those residing within their lands.

Definition

No actual proof exists of such a law being in place, though there are many scholarly papers on similar rituals, in which a powerful figure, is able to take or have their choice, of virgins in their domain.

Tibet is a region where such a ritual is believed to have been, and some claim that until the early 20th Century it was a right reserved by Kurdish Chieftains, in Western Armenia.
