What is.. gay top?
During gay anal sex, the partner who is using his penis to penetrate the other man is referred to as the top or gay top. A gay top's sexual partner is referred to as the bottom or gay bottom.

In practice, the gay top is the partner during anal sex who penetrates the other man with his penis. This means that if the top cannot achieve and maintain an erection that anal intercourse cannot occur between a top and a bottom. The terms top and bottom are used very commonly along with "versatile", which refers to a man who is willing to act as either top or bottom during anal sex. Some men whose sexual preference is to be a top may find themselves willing to bottom - or be the bottom - in certain gay relationships.
Other meanings
Sometimes the phrase "top" or gay top may also refer to the more dominant partner in a gay relationship or the dominant during BDSM encounters.
