175er

DICKtionary > 175er

What is.. 175er?

A form of identification used by the Germans during the 1930's and 1940's. It was later replaced by the Pink Triangle, which is now considered a symbol of endurance, a sort of remembrance to those times.

Being referred to as a 175er is in some instances, a derogatory reference, due to its history.

The Jews were marked with a gold star, homosexuals a pink triangle.

Noteworthy: When the Nazi's came to power, they would send Homosexuals to the Concentration Camps. To make them stand out from the others, the large numbers 175 were painted on their backs, to identify them as being Homosexuals. The Pink Triangle replaced this identification later on during the Nazi years.
