A lot of progress has been made in gay rights and many feel that we have come a long way but still have tons left to do. I have always wondered what being gay means for us homosexuals. There are so many different kinds of gay people that I'm beginning to think that it means various different things for different people.
Recently I have been thinking a lot about what people's take on being "different" is and I came a cross a video of the co-founder of "It Gets Better Project", Dan Savage, discussing Merle Miller's 40 year old essay "On Being Different: What It Means To Be a Homosexual", and it opened my eyes to several facts that I was not totally aware of and how times have truly changed.
The fact that gays are coming out of the closet at a much younger age now says a lot about how some societies are more accepting of gays and now young gays do not feel like they are the ONLY ones in the world that have an attraction for the person of the same sex. It's always important to take a look back to see where we have come from to be able to look ahead and see exactly where it is that we want to go.
