So now apps are giving out awards too!? Just when you thought that there couldn't be another accolade handed out in the big gay world, the Mister App has announced the first-ever "I Am Mister" Awards, which intend to honor individuals and organizations that are helping to create a safer, stronger and more respectful world for the LGBT community. "From politics to pop culture to nightlife to newsmakers and beyond," a press release says, "we've come up with some pretty impressive candidates, but we need your help deciding who comes out on top!"
Categories and nominees include:
• Which public figure contributes most to a positive image of today's gay community?
Nominees: Ellen DeGeneres, Anderson Cooper, Dan Savage, Jason Collins and Neil Patrick Harris
• Which recording artist has contributed most to gay culture in the past year?
Nominees: Scissor Sisters, Mykki Blanco, Frank Ocean, Lady Gaga and Macklemore
• Which recently released film tells the most compelling gay story?
Nominees: Gayby, Behind the Candelabra, I Want Your Love, The Happy Sad and Keep the Lights On
No Bucks County!? And where's the gay porn category!?
We can't imagine the prestige that would come with winning one of these babies. (JK) There's no information about whether there will be an actual awards ceremony, but according to Mister, this is a "quick, easy and fun way to say thanks to those who are making a positive impact." Okay, if you say so, Mister. Voting is open until October 15. For more information and to vote, visit iamMISTER.org.
PS. Cher's new album, Closer to the Truth, is out now!
