With some porn studios, you're lucky if they spring for a cheap hotel room set, complete with a tacky bedspread! Not Lucas Entertainment. The New York-based company recently wrapped production on its latest big-budget sex-and-action blockbuster, which was shot entirely on location in Mykonos. Awake tells the story of couple Jessy Ares and Jonathan Agassi as they escape to Greece. There, they attempt to work on their troubled relationship, but Jonathan winds up in the hospital. This leaves Jessy free to mingle with local stud Mitchell Rock. Well, at least someone is having a good time! But Jessy starts feeling guilty and soon descends into his own private hell.
Writer-director Marc MacNamara helms the film, following his award-winning The Last Day. "I wanted to do something completely different," he says. "I didn't want to tell another story where people were killing each other or fighting for their lives. I wanted a clean shower from the bloodbaths that are going on in porn movies. In Awake, I wanted to look inward to a place we all could relate to: man against himself."
Leading man Ares, who has a second career as a singer, calls Awake his "biggest challenge in filming porn so far. At once, all of my abilities had been tested in brand-new water." And two of his songs ended up in the movie!
Awake also features Alex Marte, Edji Da Silva, Mathew Mason, Trenton Ducati and Adam Killian. Part One of the two-part epic will be available next week at LucasEntertainment.com. And a behind-the-scenes production blog will be featured at LucasBlog.com. The DVD version streets on September 28.
