Gay Prisoners is a site which should be - and is - absolutely loaded with caveats upon entering. The site itself provides a "Read First" warning which should be absolutely mandatory reading before even thinking about becoming a pen pal with an inmate. Included in the "Read First" caveats is this: "Inmates, after all, have been adjudicated by the state as criminals. The inmates you see on this site will be behind bars for the worst violent crimes to those crimes which involve no violence. Always be careful as to just how much of your life you are willing to share with an inmate."
Also this: "DO NOT PROVIDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: Your physical address, home or work telephone number, job location or employer, your financial situation [i.e.,
income, stocks, bank accounts, etc], names of relatives, account numbers and other
such personal and vital information. Do not identify your job description in such high
profile fields as medical, legal, government, military, accounting, broker, etc." The reasons are obvious - or should be. As someone who has worked in the judicial system at that level, I can assure you to take a grain of critical thinking into any relationships engendered.
And - having said that - some of the "crimes" prisoners are incarcerated for are absurd, products, often, of prosecutorial misconduct in the political urges to get ahead, as well as having been poorly-defended. Others did what they were convicted of but may have turned their lives around. Others are simply just plain lonely. No one can say they do not deserve attention, because they do - most of them. A Pen Pal can be an emotional and embracing moment for an inmate, stuck as he is behind bars, particularly in the numbers which the US has collected in their urge to punish.
This is a toughie for me. The warnings given both here and there are necessary contemplations for anyone considering developing a Pen Pal in prison. But, I can also say the rewards for each Pen Pal can be worthwhile.

One of the saddest things for me is the trend over the past few years of men wearing jeans that don't fit. When I was coming into my own back in the 80s, and even the 90s, men wore jeans that fit snugly across their butts. Veriko, "Scent Of A Man" is the full title of this busy photo-only site. And what a collection it is! Way down on the bottom of the pages - on the left - is a tiny bit of lettering entitled "INK", which is a door into an amazing realm of gorgeous, startling and sexy-as-shit tattooed men, all extremely well-photographed. Hunk Plaza shows a frank and honest appreciation for men - their bodies and their essence in general. It is the stated purpose on their home page: "an homage to the male body". They pull it off. Large sumptuous pictures adorn this photo-rich website, displaying males, their muscles in smooth detail, to the point of 'near sensation' - you almost smell them, the sense of immediacy is so well-presented. Close-ups are a specialty - long scrumptious looks at smooth muscles, body hair, over the entire length and breadth of these sexy guys. The author seems ambitious enough to solicit pictures and art work from both other models and photographers, leading me to believe he is very invested in his realm of hot males and their artistic and sensuous representation. What is accomplished here is nothing short of the best eye candy imaginable. One can spend a lot of time perusing this interesting bit of adoring. This is a very well-done work, by any criteria.

As faithful readers of my column here on Gay Demon know, I'm not a huge fan of an awards ceremony that sounds like something that was named during a bender by a bunch of Sloe Gin Fizz-slurping retirees in Palm Springs. (Nor am I fan of an awards show that not only ignores men of color but gives the prize for "Best Ethnic" picture to a white-owned and operated studio - Raging Stallion Studios* - while ignoring the dozens of well-made movies by and for the very people the award is meant to represent.)
But I am glad that my colleague, J.C. Adams of GayPornTimes.com, took home the prize for "Best Porn Blog." First of all, he deserves it. J.C. has been covering the industry since 1995 and has done so in the sort of journalistic fashion that one wouldn't expect from an industry known less for its cultural contributions and more for double penetration and its variations of urethral stimulation.
What J.C. does - clearly, informatively and, most importantly, unbiasedly - is present industry news in a straightforward and evenhanded manner without so much of the snarkiness prevalent on some of the other top gay porn blog/news sites. He doesn't hold grudges, demean others, let his biases affect him and base his decisions on what to write about on his own personal preferences like, ahem, I do. Further, his comment threads are known for their intelligent discussions on topics that are important to his readers.
J.C. has repeatedly been passed over in recent years by people of lesser talent and whose understanding of gay porn history is all but absent. So it is with great pride that I and the staff of Gay Demon congratulate the man who, day after day, week after week and month after month, provides a forum for industry goings-on.

XNOTDEAD - NEWS is a very innovative and fascinating experience. It calls itself a "Fagzine" - a term applicable and most interesting. I use the term "experience" because the site involves a reader in a very interactive style, with fun surprises loaded into this rich and tasty web site. As an example: Scrolling down to the left of the Home Page, one encounters apparently somewhat "pedestrian" black and white pictures of a guy in his underpants, posing at a plaza in a very public place in Paris.When the cursor hits the image - as is the case with them all - they immediately 'colorize', inviting an increasing level of interest into just what these nuts are doing. In the particular picture I hit, it's Lars Stephen, an artist in his own right, whose works are displayed under the "Contributors" section, and - wow - in most interesting ways.In fact, in spite of its apparently sparse appearance, this is an absolutely loaded website, interesting as hell and with some super-cool photographs of the hottest men.
